E53 X5 4.6is (Estoril Blue)

Recommended Posts

A couple E53 X5 4.6is listed at the moment. Both in Estoril Blue.

This one was listed yesterday by a private seller. Asking 12k. NZ new. Silver interior trim. Looks like it has good service history. It was offered to bimmersport members for 8.5k in 2022. 197km at that time and now has 214km on the clock. So it hasn't been sitting idle in a garage.

The other is listed by a dealer at 10k. NZ new. Wood trim. 210km.

Thoughts on these prices?

8-10k sounds about the right for a decent one, they are maintenance money pits. Top one sold recently so someone is flipping it after fixing it.

"It's the main thing that really causes concern with this model..."

Yea I've heard it can be rough ownership. I've always liked the 4.6is and wanted to own one some day for towing and some light off road duties. But not sure the headache is worth it.

I've had dreams of putting a 4.6is motor into an E38 740i short wheelbase and 6 speed manual conversion. 740shortysporty.

I'd buy that!  LWB though.  Comfort!

Nice to see the old girl looking good again with some paint and polish. I don't miss it, always had issues.

My 4.4i is a great drive but has indeed been a money pit. 😐
