Kepes 231 Report post Posted February 5, 2014 Could it be you need both, the single piece gasket against the roof, and the two piece against the sunroof? They are described respectively as the 'top', 'front' and 'rear' gaskets Just the one for E30's. From what I've read, the earlier models had the 2 piece and the later models the 1 piece. That's all I know though. Whether the one piece is better at sealing it or has some other sort of benefit i don't know. The mechanism is basically the same on pfl and fl so i can't imagine that has anything to do with the change. I've got the 2 piece on it now (factory). The 1 piece is a little cheaper so I think i might just go for that one unless someone thinks otherwise....
e30ftw 410 Report post Posted February 5, 2014 Get a one piece. Would have been an improvement they made.Theres a small gap where front meets back on the 2 piece.one piece will seal better/

vtgts300kw 90 Report post Posted February 10, 2014 My 3rd brake light has become unstuck from the rear window ( Touring, although I suspect they are all the same ). How do I reattach it? Is the tape still produced?
vtgts300kw 90 Report post Posted February 10, 2014 You can use 3M Heavy Duty double sided tape. Make sure you get the black one or it will look bad. I think the heavy duty stuff is UV resistant, that's what you ideally want. I was hoping the "Hella Matrix" sticky tape would still be available. Otherwise i'll have to go the black tape route. m325i 709 Report post Posted February 13, 2014 Looking at a few M cars and a lot seem to have service intervals of approx. 20,000km. Is this normal? I can only imagine it is, as 1) they are new cars at the time and would have a warranty 2) there seem to be multiple cars with the same story. I though you should be servicing every 10,000?
gjm 3258 Report post Posted February 13, 2014 Sounds like the default BMW servicing interval - my 320D reckons I should do 12-14k miles between services, so that's about 20000km. You don't have to obey the service intervals. I change oil and filter at least every 5k miles, normally more often. 'Normal' petrol engined cars I change the oil every 6-7.5k miles, or more often. (These are upper limits, set by me for our cars.) Oil needs changing more often if the car spends a lot of time sitting in traffic.
yng_750 247 Report post Posted February 14, 2014 Bmw set a universal service interval for the simple americans. If you run a m engine with 20k between changes you will end up with a very f**ked engine after 160kms Good oil every 5000kms is the best but expensive plan. If you run longer you must use bmw long life oil as normal crap will degrade

Tidy30 38 Report post Posted February 16, 2014 Bad news... E30 cab usually takes a few extra cranks to start when parked on a slope. Yesterday I parked on a slope and came back to start it 1 hour later and it sounded terrible. Really rough idle, really weak spluttering, sounded like only some of the cylinders were firing. Looked it up in the net and saw a myriad if possibilities, but it seemed like the high temp was a cause of it (bad info from hot sensor going into ecu producing incorrect map?) Anyway, took the other car and came back 7 hours later around 1am, started her up no problem and drove her back into the garage. Went to lunch this morning, started up completely fine and parked up in Newmarket. Came back 2 hours later and hot car starts spluttering and idling really weak again. Left it with the bonnet up and gently cooled the sensor section of the head with some slightly cool water. 2 hours later engine is only slightly warm, but now the car only cranks and doesn't fire any of the cylinders.. Looking on the net there are sooo many possibilities, sounds like a pretty expensive endeavor of troubleshooting. Any tips? Currently sitting and weeping waiting for another car to come and pick me up so I can go to work some overtime (already 3 hours late!) for no pay :( Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
dubman 39 Report post Posted February 16, 2014 was your tank near empty when parked on the slope? also....clean your temp sensor connection, water + electrics ummm :/
Tidy30 38 Report post Posted February 16, 2014 50L/60L, so its not fuel supply. Cleaned the sensors after I cooled the area with water. The Bosch blue connector seals are relatively waterproof, but I cleaned and wiped the exterior dry with a clean rag, then disconnected and saw no moisture in the blade terminals. Smac01 12 Report post Posted February 16, 2014 My old E39 did exactly the same thing - was crank angle sensor. I assume you'll need to scan it to find out. Bad news... Tidy30 38 Report post Posted February 16, 2014 Had Mr AA-roadside-man come so I could get her towed back home. Started freaking out a bit as soon as he was surprised the bonnet hinged at the front for E30s! Sprayed some aerosol fuel in the intake and cylinders started firing, so prob not crank angle. He determined it was fuel related. Looking afterwards online it seems that it could be pressure regulator or something. Now I have to wait until like 3.30am for the cradle tow truck to come! Happy about going to the airport at 5am tomorrow.... Good times Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
BM WORLD 1283 Report post Posted February 16, 2014 fuel pumps can also fail ,
Tidy30 38 Report post Posted February 16, 2014 Yep, completely true. Any chance I could get a rough price for a fuel pump replacement job? I've had the car moved to a workshop in the middle of the night, would like to know if I'm paying a fair rate. Tidy30 38 Report post Posted February 17, 2014 Looks like its a dead fuel pump. $480 to replace and install. Reasonable? I know they're around $350 for a pump Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Palazzo 477 Report post Posted February 17, 2014 I haven't done a PFL, but a FL one is about 10 min and circa $100 second hand. And do the fuel filter.
Kepes 231 Report post Posted February 17, 2014 The PFL have two fuel pumps (kind of). There's a transfer pump in-tank which pulls the fuel from the tank to the main/external pump. It may just be one of them which has gone bad or both. I just purchased a new transfer pump as i could hear the external pump making quite a bit of noise so it was likely that the transfer pump had gone bad and the external pump was being overworked by doing the work of 2 parts. When I was looking at Fuel pumps (external) they were about $200 USD shipped from bmaparts.com.
