228,XXXkm A few things have happened. Having come so far I decided I didn't want to let the car go for less than my 7K asking price and have set about spending the money to try and get rid of the shimmy/seat vibration...which will mean I'm going to keep the car for a bit longer. Jon at Auto38 diagnosed some play in the steering box and some in the rear end. He swapped the original steering box back in which has really tightened up the front end and got rid of a weird knock at the 45 degrees mark, however the shimmy still remains. In the meantime an OEM muffler came up on FB marketplace. $60 and 2 blocks from my house. This got installed by Midas (125 + gst if anyones interested) today. Feels like a new car, so quiet and no annoying drone at 2000rpm. It didnt drone on the motorway but round town getting up to 50km it was abit annoying. The tip looks alot nicer too than the rusty pipe. Suspension parts have arrived from FCP and will be going in next week.

While the weather's been crap, and the OBD is now reading the car, I thought i would dig into the final warning light on the dash, the ABS Thought this might be a helpful write up if anyone else comes across this problem, because I would say wiring / connection issues are probably more common than the actual pre-tensioner failing. ** Edit ** I'm writing this because I don't want anyone else reading this to get the wrong idea or bad information, as I am aware pretensioners and air bags have pyro charges in them. If you're planning on doing your own testing, seek advice from an electrician about this and follow correct procedures before commencing. The battery had been disconnected for atleast 15 minutes prior to me unplugging or inspecting any harnesses / plugs. The pretensioner was removed from the seat and placed in a vice when I tested for ohms. To measure resistance of the pre-tensioner the short tabs need to be dis-engaged, i'm aware why these are there, to prevent the device accidentally being set off outside of it's intended purpose in a crash. I am aware that a multi meter sends a small amount of current in order to measure resistance, from what I've always been told on a 200 ohm scale a maximum of 3 volts will be used, which I am told is not enough to set off a pyro charge but seek your own advice on this. I am also aware that static electricity carries enough voltage to set off a pyro charge The purpose in why I posted this up in the first place was more to show where the failure for me occurred, as I couldn't find much about it specifically online about "Low resistance" fault, and the small adjustment I made to ensure the shorts are dis engaged when plugged in, doesn't compromise the safety circuit of the pre-tensioner, when the plug comes out, the shorts engage again anyway. ** Edit ** So the 2 codes it pull was - resistance too high passenger, I pulled the pre tensioner plug out, cleaned it put it back in, and that code went away - resistance too low driver side, pulled the plug out cleaned it, put it back in and code persisted. From my research that code of low resistance is usually a sign of either a failed pre-tensioner, or one that has been deployed. Found a spare one with wiring at pickapart for $12, so swapped both tensioners onto both sets of wiring, no avail Took the driver seat out again, measured the ohms on the pre-tensioner, seemed to be Ok about between 1-2 ohm ish (not sure my leads on the multimeter are still 100% accurate anymore) Plugged it in, and measured from the larger plug, you have to dis-engage the metal tab from the pin in there too, which is a pain, And measured 0 ohm. So still suggesting a short circuit some where. Cut the wiring insulation from the main plug to look for a break in the connection, found nothing. So thought that's strange, which left me with something at the plug in the pre-tensioner end I thought maybe when it was plugged in, the tabs weren't disengaging from the pins, thus creating a 0 ohm curcuit, tried adjusting the tabs a bit so it would push back easier with the plug engaged to no avail, so I adjusted the end of the plug by adding a tiny bit of a lip to push back those tabs when I inserted it Measured it from the larger connector and sure enough, showing correct ohms again ------------------------------------ Installed tensioner back on the seat, plugged it back in, then connected the battery. Loaded up ISTA, reset the Errors, and warning light finally gone! Hope this helps, wrote it up because I was struggling to find a description of this specific issue, about the plug not disengaging the metal tabs (that act as a fail safe) when performing service work Onto more body work tomorrow, got to get rid of some final low spots.

Good to catch up with you all @Olaf somewhere on this site is a pretty detailed write up on the M20. It was a reasonably involved process, lovingly done by Gavin @ Hi Velocity. @Driftit ahh yes - the many a good trip camping at racetracks and doing butterball shots. Bummer - the 318iS was cool! RIP turbo fun-ness

I may be a bit biased but have to say the E39 / E46 / E38 era was a very very good one for BMW design

Collected this today.. was advertised on here with a failing transmission. 2000 540i pre facelift motorsport, ex Japan. Drove it 25km home from Cambridge. Transmission gave me no trouble at all, although I was gently cruising... Generally a well looked after car with plenty of maintenance including chain guides and all the usual suspects. There are a few things going on with it however, and I'll document its progress here as we go...

Hello All - It's been a while since I posted here! I realised it's been 18 years since Ollie & I started the site. (I wish I was still 17) I love the community still keeps it running - you are badasses. I'm pretty keen to get an Australian version of Bimmersport going now I live in Sydney. How many aussie members are on here? I'm joining the BMWCC NSW, any one have any contacts? Update on cars. Still have the race car, it's very well sorted now - I just don't get to use it in the series much. It's got ITBs now and chucks out 290 rwhp, not bad for an M20. Given the engine is such large displacement and was reasonably restricted, it actually gained a significant amount of torque with this mod. I'lll do my best to get back from some rounds assuming the border opens up to Australia sometime soon. For those that don't know, I have an open class E30 with a 3.2 litre M20 with just about everything done to it. It weights just under 1000kg and is pretty hilarious to drive. Usually race on slicks in A. Attached is a video of my surprise hearing it actually idle properly with it's 304 cam and new ECU. It seems to rev a lot faster than it did with the stock intake. VIDEO-2020-04-22-07-05-45_1.mp4 I've got an M2 Pure in Australia - decided to do some road trips now we can't really travel anywhere. These are fun - it reminds me of the 318iS turbo I had? Does anyone on here own my old turbo? PK8952? I've still got the M325i cabby in Auckland, it lives in storage mostly. When I moved to Sydney I went a bit rogue and got a 987 Boxster a M235i and a Kia Picanto. I was confused. Sorry. Good to talk to you all again!

For the scratches I find this product excellent. Its cheap, sands and applies well, and no mixing. https://panelstore.co.nz/collections/novol/products/1k-acrylic-spot-putty-100ml

Far out I realized I joined 15 years ago, you know ironically Bimmersport is quite possibly one of the most contributing factors to why I can never escape BMW's, I went back to toyota for 6 months or so, and then realised I needed to get a BMW again to get back into the Bimmersport action ?

I reset all the values on the car last night and the rough idle went away. I drove it 20 km to the Train station this morning and it seemed fine. But I am running 5 original coils and 1 second hand E90 one. I am just waiting to hear back from ECS regarding their coils. They actually took over Bavarian Autosport a few years back. So they are in house brand. I want to return them and get Delphi ones.

Not bad! Grant at GT Refinishers has done a great job. Next up the custom wing brackets onto the factory bootlid and fit the rear diffuser when it arrives. And the M5 wheels once they're back from the repairers!

Cheers guys. I will have to have a hunt around for some info on the dropping of features etc. Especially around the security stuff. The home will have some smart devices. Especially the heat pump. Remote access to these devices is a must. I house sat a few months back and the house had a Smart Kettle. I laughed and thought why would you. But asking it to turn on from bed was fun. And smart bulbs are handy. The sharing of information is my only concern. There is ways to block all that I guess.

Hows everyone here? Hope you are all doing well.? Sorry I haven't been as active and posting updates for you all. Has life kept me busy. I was in the Netherlands on a business project that was assigned by a Dutch University that my associate took on and I was dragged into it. After that I was invited and sponsored on a winter holiday to stay at the private Stuttgart residence of an well known ex Daimler PR. I only returned from Germany earlier this year and went for a holiday driving all around NZ, was in Christchurch 3 days before the horrible event happened. Anyone who hasn't been to the Southisland, put it on your bucket list, best drives and scenery you can have in this part of the world. Currently they are processing my application for joining a private German university around March 2020. Meanwhile I have been in touch with some very high ups at 2 big companies in Germany and will likely be joining ZF or Daimler. Meanwhile at HMW we have gotten some projects completed an released to public, others are coming ahead. The M122H KC Setup using the GT500 M122H Eaton Blower was released mid year. Its a setup capable of 600HP's + as well as able to utilize the TVS 2300 Supercharger as well as 2.8-2.9L KB & Whipple Twin Screw Blowers. This is The Largest Supercharger Setup ever conceived for BMW's. We have also released the M62/M90/M45 Setups. A New version of the SC14 setups is also coming, and have under development a project for the 4 Cylinder M40, M42, M43 & M44 Engines on the 318ti etc. That and next year we may be finally able to release the kits for the BMW V8/M60/M62 engines as well as the M20 and M30. So here we are some pictures and videos for you all below: HMW M122H KC - The Largest Modern Roots Supercharger Ever Put on a BMW HMW SS Manifolds HMW V3 Eaton M62/M90/M45 HMW V2.1X SC14 2018 Batches HMW Custom Supercharger Pulley HMW V4 MOAB - Largest SC Setup Project for the BMW 4 Cylinder M4X Engines - Uses 4 different Superchargers (AMR500, M45, M62 & SC14) I had so much I'd wanted to show, unfortunately most builds don't look neat and tidy enough to our standards of presentation, here are some that caught my eye recently September's prettiest SC14 V2.1X Build in UK Augusts Top SC14 V2.1X Build in France Videos: SC14 @ 3 PSI and 200WHP M52B28 (MS41 ECU) HMW M122H KC M50B30 Stroker @ 17 PSI 500WHP (*Link ECU) I have been part of this community for over a decade, meet folks, said good byes, had short comings that allowed me growth while I lurked and came once a while. ..I'm leaving NZ permanently in some 8 weeks time, next month the shipping company will be taking over, HMW operations have already been moved to the US. Now its time to thank you all for everything. I dedicate this song to you and make this my final bow to you all ? Wish me well, thank you once again; god bless you all and go well!?️ Much Love & Warmest Regards, - Hyde

Thanks AJ. Yes I felt some of the previous posts were just becoming more so having a personal 'go' per say at the personality as a means to discredit ones work rather than being a discussion of the projects really. So I chose not to engage in them as I said cant have them all. Yes that is on the old blogs FAQ Section, answering peoples comments in context, I emphasized on the subject of getting it certified where such laws apply; and no where do I say, not to. I state how, where, how much it costs, and also what some people do to avoid, I merely offered information, I don't condone it, nor do I condemn it. Its a grey area really and what people chose to do is their business; We are merely hobbyists who offer hardware products and support for those who wish to try them. Yes good point, I generally have the mating sides where gaskets will seal (the manifolds really) polished and re-treated at the factory after powder coating. Other than that, We are actually using electro plating for our latest batches, Do keep an eye out, I will be back in a few months with much more content that I am sure you will love! Regards,

Hi Zero, Thanks for the feedback, Oh the "marketing' part on the title is just a jest, funny so I left it there. Topic is just to show work thats been done. Not wanting marketing advise, the project has come far, and we do well on our own and have enough clients to serve, hopefully we'll keep improving as we grow. But quite disappointed to hear if you are going to be 'that' skeptical, Those dynos I posted, are actually from a reputable shop right down in Hamilton. -Now if we have to 'prove something' with a video and all that. Gosh, no conspiracy really but oh well. No matter we will have much more content coming up this year to be eye full and I will be sure to post them here for you all to enjoy should you like. Until then I wish you well too. Any projects you would like to see, or have feedback on please leave a line. Thanks again! Warm Regards,

Ah yes a Comment from the old blog, one must be quite invested to bring that up. Now far worse things go on and there are folks who chose to do that which I stated in the comment, I merely state the obvious as a personal opinion, mind you. And that is a fruitless statement to say that ones personal opinion that conflicts with yours has anything to do with caliber of ones work or what to expect. The works are proven time and time again and these are just cheap shots really, not that it has much effect. I have helped folks get Certs before, and Always recommend they do so if their local laws require it. That said I rather not argue gentlemen. And Olaf, The work is all over the place, there are those who akin to you will keep questioning and thats fine, grammar is a great last resort by the way, I am not here to argue or go off topic. I do not think I am keen on trying to change your personal opinions or feelings nor require your verification. Because its just becoming nit picking really, I am merely showing some work for those who may like seeing it. So be as it may, call it as you like it, enjoy your lunch, Wish you well and we will just agree to disagree. Regards.

Hi Olaf, Yes. You will find some pictures and videos on the first posts? Are they showing up? There are a few Dynos. Apart from that I am unsure what kind of proof you are after apart from whats in the pudding. I personally try to upload videos every few months, prefer to have good quality content (Cant upload every video worth a few seconds every time a client gets one up and running, I save those to show other clients. Overall quality matters more than quantity with me and most clients just decide to take some photos and off they go. You will likely find a few of our setups in NZ going around yet only less than half who actually show. That said I am still looking for people to do a proper build log type video. I'll post up more content as I go, long as you all would like to see more? Eg. the Intake manifolds for these motors, we also have a the E30 project finishing up in a month or so and upcoming M60/M62 V8 Project based around the GT500 Blower coming towards the end of this year. Best Regards,
