As people drifted in and out during the day we thought it would be easier to announce the winners on here. We'll run a poll for best exhaust note and announce the judges decisions in the next day or so.

Haha! My neighbour is a holden man, we had the race on in the background, at a get together at his place. I said how I liked the 90's WAY better, and he said the modern ones were boring too. Pretty much like driving back from auckland We decided the best way to liven it up, was to have half the field go the opposite direction to the other half

Hi, I am looking at 2006/2007 116i, 118i and 120i's. Obviously the 116i is down on power vs the other two; that's not a huge concern as none of these are 'fast'. However is the N46 engine more reliable or 'better' thank the 116's N45? I have heard of cam chain slip - is that more an issue with one either motor? Would love you input on any of these models please. Many thanks, Nick

Cracking up @ this, specially the 'happy wife' bit.......... Yea, we were all thinking ya coulda washed the poor neglected looking thing too............. Only kidding.......I know what its like from having had a black ute in the past.......

No.... Oil leaks, cooling system leaks, chains and valve stem seals are the most common faults on these N46 motors...the same as the N42

Thank goodness for that, had been bothering me the last two years this thread had been dormant... to be honest, awaiting his news is the only reason I have hung around. I think Jamez needs some of those mods for the 2K cup car!

Well, I may be wrong but as far as I know there was a slight change between the 1997 and the LATE (After Sept.) 1998 models. ASC become DSC. Single VANOS became Double VANOS. So that is a small update? Also there wasn't any "M-Sport" E39s until about 2000 only cars offered with a "Sports package (Steering wheel, seats, suspension, etc) I think the biggest "update" was in 2001 when they all came with the angel eyes headlights. Same year as 530i replacing the 528i. Another thing that changed was the tiptronic was pushed up to downshit and pulled down to upshift. Of course BMW offered the M-sport package with the nicer sportier bodykits. That's all I can think off anyway.

That someone could be you? I would be keen to be involved. Sorry but I didn't realise you were the M5 driver on Saturday - spent most of my time wondering how come you had 2 ladies in tow - now I know

I bought a 118i for my mother earlier this year, it goes absolutely fine for around town, but I don't think I'd take it on a trip with more than 2 adults, passing would be a chore I suspect. As Paul said, space is down on others (we have a Mazda 3 that would kill it on space and performance), but it drives really nicely, feels like a big car in ride and handling. Haven't heard about chains slipping (maybe Glenn has?), only oil leaks, supposedly preventable by cleaning a valve somewhere and an oil feed pipe, it's mentioned on the forum here somewhere. With the Professional stereo, auto xenons and auto, it's a nice place to be around town.

I'm getting 600kms ish to a full tank of 55-60L of fuel which puts it at roughly 10km/L or 10L/100km straight 6 ftw

Me too... The sound of the 6 is awesome too, and they're happier to rev, and rev higher. Still have to be manual though

but we watch the V8's for the wheel to wheel racing and driver skill not the prangs! (i don't normally watch the V8's but loove the enduro's. Bathurst was epic. stoked someone other than Wincup won.)

If you want me to send you any of the pics without, just lemme know, easy peasy. Had a great time, met some new folks and heard some loud noises.

Damn scary to drive when you do a bit of......................umm..........................spirited cornering. Understeer becomes instant oversteer without warning. ALOT of chocolate starfish have puckered VERY tightly because of the Piazza cornering (in) ability.
