3 pointsI hate that it has come to this, but paid for some bits off Jono, on the 10th of December, with multiple promises of them being sent out that week, the week after and then last week since he was away on holiday over Xmas. But am still yet to receive them and no reply from a message if he had sent them on Monday, a week after he said he was sending them out ASAP. If you know him, can you either A, go round and whoop his ass for being a slack c**t, or B, take the bits off him and send them on his behalf. Getting abit beyond the joke now

2 pointsIf you're in the toy section of Trademe again this week, probably $7 Postshop bubble-wrap bag should cover it, depending what scale it is......

2 pointsIn the interim between now and buying the LCI tail light retrofit I decided to tint the "white" part red to modernise (IMO) the back of the car. I'm happy with the results Note: right hand side looks a bit scuffed up - I hadn't peeled off the film on the outside of the tint (forgot) so that's why it doesn't appear clear.

1 pointSo the consensus here is that the M52 is a solid engine and will go the distance. The problem with this example is that it probably doesn't have an LSD which I suspect will be the 'reason' why the OP does not buy this car.

1 pointCripes Mojo. I have a formula for you. If you follow it, you wont go wrong. 1. Find BMW that you like 2. Verify that it has sunroof ( i wont buy a BMW without one...). 3. GET A PPI 4. Finalise transaction. 5. Profit.

1 pointMy last E36 was a 92 325 and had done over 300km when I bought it, engine was mint as, it was manual and gearbox was as solid as too. My E30 has done 350km and the engine and box are great too. Both came from people who had looked after them, so I think the lesson is- look after your car, and it will look after you. I'm pretty sure somebody on here has that as their signature... Dad uses a Crayola to commute with, has well over 550km on the clock, but it's only good features are reliability and fuel consumption. If I end up in hell when I'm dead, I fully expect to be handed a Corolla and told, "Go for a drive."

1 pointOh No...JUST GOT HOME FROM WORK...just realised I`m trapped in a thread again !!! At least Blue`s here but boy...this is deja vue ( all over again..)

1 pointAt 300k's, any E36 that reaches that, is road legal & still moves under it's own steam probably deserves to be displayed in a glass-case............

1 pointPeople worry about engines so much. It's the rest of the car you need to worry about! Any decent car will do many, many hundreds of thousands of kms if they're looked after. I've had several cars with well over 300kms on, and no issues with any of them. I actually had more issues with a 2002 Corolla between new and 150K than I had on the cars with 300K+ (although one Legacy did lunch a trans at about 300K). One of them ended up at a business on Tutukaka Coast, and it had done 420K when I last saw it - had a clutch and an exhaust manifold since they brought it. The problem is: Kiwi's are sh*t at looking after cars - as they get older, they start to be cheap with them, and they become wrecks pretty quick after that. They seem to think it's cheaper to buy another car and the old one isn't spending money on - if it was a decent car, that very rarely the case! If you find one that's been properly looked after, the kms are somewhat immaterial. It may have already had a bunch of stuff done, so may be better than a car with 100K on it.

1 pointSunroof up no matter what the weather in a e30 haha. Gotta look good always.

1 point+1 to what Bue-540 said. Flying to pick up the car and driving it back is way more enjoyable, is usually cheaper and you get find out all the things that need fixing on it too.

1 pointOh yeah, I bought 8 of the last 10 cars I've bought, sight-unseen. Never had anything unexpected happen. If you're looking at the right cars with expectations matching the price, and the sellers have an OK attitude, they seem to work out fine. Even the Model A! Now 85 years old, and better than we expected! One of them was a 1995 Subaru Impreza with 288,000 kms - the thing was stunning. When I arrived to pick it up I was surprised that there'd be two red ones the same there..... but there was only the one - looked like it could have done only 88K! serves us well until 325K, and only sold because the back seat was too small (for the kids to fit in... not for making them).

1 pointGood plan. Sorry - can't help with New Plymouth. Nearest I can get is Wanganui, and that's hardly local.

1 pointEither Captain Transporter, or Pete's towing. It's always way cheaper to get it shipped to Auckland, and get the bus down to get it from a mate's place or somehing. Captain Transporter did our Model A, and Pete's bring it up the last bit anyway, and I collected it from their depot. I seem to recal it being about $500 from Feilding to Whangarei.

1 pointBrian Roberts Towing, Papakura I think?? Have used them a few times to drag treasures around - I'd recommend them no worries, & have always been well priced. Or, just bjuy a plane ticket & some fuel & drive it back........I've done that a few times too.
-
1 pointI've not used anyone. However, I have seen quotes for 'Captain Transporter' for shipping a car from Bay of Plenty around the country: Whangarei $465 + GST Auckland $211 + GST Hamilton $149 + GST Taupo $188 + GST Napier $326 + GST Palmerston North $326 + GST Wellington $350 + GST Christchurch $722 + GST Dunedin $969 + GST Hopefully it gives you an idea of costs.

1 pointA good engineer ALWAYS uses the pi rule. Take whatever you're doing, estimate the time it will take, multiply by pi and this is how long it will actually take. I use it jokingly at work, it is surprisingly effective although you need to remain meta-vigilant that you do not account for the pi rule pre-pi rule.

1 pointI can never function properly if I am talking while doing car work with people standing around. I have to be in a state of solitude so I can maintain focus haha

1 pointWas stopped at the lights and the passenger in the car on the other side whipped out his phone and took a pic of me in the touring. Felt like a celebrity hahahaha

1 pointThanks guys! I guess I will not be following through this time round. The seller does not even know if cambelt has been done, tachometer is not working and door locks not working properly.
