Okay so you guys will have seen Johns thread selling the iS lips. http://bimmersport.co.nz/topic/52437-is-mtech2-e30-front-splitters/ I was in the very first batch, and got mine yesterday. had had a few cans so thought it was better to wait till today to install. Today couldnt have gone any longer at work, just couldnt wait to get home!!!!!! Anyways, lets get into it Open the box and take it out at least a few hours before you want to install it, and lay it out flat, probably want something on it to make it flat The screws that come supplied are woefully inadequate, these come with them from the USA, and not johns fault! chuck these in the bin. Go to Mitre10 Mega, and pick up the following: - 10x M4 bolts, at least 15mm long, i found a packet was cheapest - 10x M4 nuts, you could use regular ones, i used Nyloc type, dont want it coming loose, and there is no way you would know. Mitre10 part number is 198006 - 20x washers, they are called Fender washers, a suitable size in M4 they didnt have, but they had M5/3/16" type which have worked very well. Mitre10 part number is 901484. these washers are probably not compulsory, and at a dollar a piece, you make your own decision. the lip and the splitter are acrylic and either plastic or fibreglass, so might as well. will take one knock and the heads will pull through. washers are good idea okay once back in the shed, first step is to put on the Mighty Car Mods album on. you should only need it once with the lip on the car already, sit the splitter underneath, and decide how far out you want the splitter. if you use the manufacturer holes, it sticks out a hell of a long way. Personal preferance i guess, but i didnt want a snow plow, or trip over the car every time i walked around the front. take the lip off, put it on the bench upside down, and site the splitter on it, at the same spot. measure out where you will be wanting your holes, they need to be in the center of the lip itself I decided they needed to be 20mm forward of the predrilled holes can be drilled roughly 20mm, doesnt need to be toooooo accurate. drill some pilot holes with a 2mm bit. remember you are working with acrylic, you want to be carefull or it may crack. you are drilling only into the splitter at the moment. then use a 4mm bit and open them up to the size you need for your bolts. M4 = 4mm if you didnt already know. Do this for all the holes that you want to use then upside down with the lip again, and clamp it in place. i used a normal g clamp and a vice grips, just what i had available. make sure the lip is on straight, and sticking out the amount that you want. once you got that sussed, drill your first hole, through the splitter and into the lip with your 4mm bit. the one you want to start with is the very middle one, to lock in your decision how far out you want the splitter. Then put a bolt through with a washer, and put another washer and a nylock on. it it isnt clear, you will want the head of the bolt pointing at the ground after the splitter is on the car. Cool! nearly done! easy eh! should be onto the 4th song in the album about now! make sure your splitter is still lined up correctly on the lip and straight!! next drill the holes on either side of the middle one, and then bolt it in, working your way to the outside. dont work from the other side and come in, because you dont want a warp/wave in the acrylic. at this point, hopefully you are just about done, and, needent do this next step. you may choose to do it anyay.. on mine the very edges (by where the tyres will be), it wasnt sitting against the lip, and had a bit of a wave here too. drill a pilot hole with your 2mm, and then with your 4mm. for this nut and bolt, you do not want a washer of course. this bolt is really only to keep it tight up, will do nothing to contribute to strength because of location. now the last step may or may not need to be done. if you have it mounted all the way out, you should have no excess splitter back here.if you mounted it further back, you will need to trim this, either with a hack saw, or get the grinder out like i do. all nicely trimmed! there, you are done!! should look something like this and a couple of pictures on my cabby. you will have to wait for some better ones at hard park on sunday. its raining here so dont want to put the car outside

just spent the last few days working on my 96 328i coupe . had this super charger kicking around for a while that i removed from a 96 e39 528i had a couple of oil leaks etc that needed to be sorted , rocker cover , oil filter housing and some small O-rings on the oil filter housing and dipstick tube . so i thought while i was pulling everthing apart i might as well install a m50 manifold and this super charger setup. pics attached , will do a better write up when i have some time. manifold off and oil filter housing off. shows the m50 icv set up shows the m50 manifold air temp and vac hose location shows the m52 manifold and where the temp ,pcv and icv units fit in showing the 2 types of air temp sensors , i just threaded teh m52 sensor in the m50 manifold with a little sealant some headers that i got off wayney a while back shows the fan spacer on the front of the water pump and i had to use a smaller 318i type fan and viscous but i might change that for a e28 m30 type fan blade to offset the fan further back fairly tight trying to get all the hoses to go places , had to move the horns , modify the headlight adjustor etc bumper fitted back on with no problems , but i might try and get some strong flexi pipe and a smaller barrol type filter ,just to make it easier and less joins etc a high proformance air filter just incase you dont know what it is

Spent two hours sitting in traffic from Albany to a mates in Beachlands in the E30 last night. All my maintenance efforts paid off and it didn't breakdown. She ran like a dream when really it should have broken down being a E30. Didn't die from eating local takeaways out there. Good night.

yeah "keeping the family together" friendly. But for what it is, reasonably competitive? hey look at least he is honest about it, rather than all the other shady sellers, that 318i/M3 E36 springs to mind etc.

Thats awesome mate. My ex had a lot do do with the previous marketing people at the ZOO, was a really fun place to work, lots of cool things going on. Congratulations. Took my nephew the other week. Can you have a word to the Tigers about their laziness?? I mean, they just sleep partially hidden all day. That would be great.

Right - time for a quick update. Our car is now running on brand new Hankook 215/45-17 rubber, fitted to the ACS Type II rims. This may not last... The long version follows. We'd be running around on the original 16" Style 45 rims wearing 205/55-16 Michelin rubber. Alls well, but there had been a slight 'bumpiness' to the ride of late. Nothing significant or serious, and quite possibly could have been put down to road surface conditions. However, when collecting Miss M from school one day, a (rather attractive ) young lady came to the car, leant over in the way that only young ladies can, and said... "Your nearside rear tyre looks a little flat." D'oh. Pulled over, looked, and the tyre was completely and utterly unusable. Torn ends of wire belt were showing. The tyre was visibly lumpy. I've never, ever seen anything so bad (on my cars). Frankly, I'm ashamed that it got to this state. I regularly check tyres and pressures. (I'll post some pics another time.) So, on with the (spacesaver) spare and a very relaxed, 80km/h max, trip home. Once home, I had the option of fitting the Style 73s with known knackered tyres. or... Fit the ACS Type IIs (which were sold to another forum member, and awaiting collection) with good (6-7mm tread) tyres. What would you do? I went with option 2, the ACS rims. Following morning, I had to take Miss M into school. Mrs M was with us, so family in the car. And... That lumpy, bumpy feeling reared it's head again. Must be the road? But this is worse... Suspension issues? Driveshafts? Bearings? It was bad enough that we stopped in Drury and visited a well-know tyre supplier there. All 4 tyres were completely f*cked. I'd bought the wheels in good faith, believing them to all be good. Looks like they were anything but, and that the previous owners had either parked them flat for a long period of time, or they had been run on very low pressure for a long time. In my opinion, unusable. So, with no option, I bought 4 new 215/45-17s. Not a planned expense, but necessary. Essential. Well, they look pretty and they ride well. But it left me with a problem - I had agreed a price for the ACS rims, with (I thought) good tyres and now had nearly 3x the sale value sunk into the wheels. And this is why I've not written this up sooner - I had to discuss the situation with my buyer first. The saving grace in this is that I would so very, very much prefer to find myself in a situation where the tyres are bad than have a buyer come back to me later with that problem. A moral victory, if a complete financial failure. My buyer has been a star. His 'these things happen attitude' made me feel a little better. I offered him a full refund of his deposit (goes without saying), or one of a selection of alternatives: A (reluctant on my part) suggestion he could pay more and get the rims as they are with brand new tyres (and receipt) I'll swap the tyres to the Style 73s, and sell the rims as a rim-only. The Style 73s, with the (in my opinion) tyres that should be changed Style 73s, rim only Or the original 16s - 3 good tyres, and one completely stuffed one. In the meantime I asked the question of suitability of 215/45s on a 7" rim. I've run these before and felt ehy were a little vague in steering: 205/50s may have provided a better solution. However, the Hankook 215s on an 8" rim show a decided inward slope to the tyre shoulder, suggesting the Hankook design may suit a narrower rim. So... Decision time. I'll get another 16" tyre to suit the original rims regardless, so we have a 'spare' set of wheels that can be used. I think I sort the Style 73s, swap the tyres on to them, and move the ACS rims on. If I keep the ACS rims I'll want to restore them - not refurbish. They still have the AC Schnitzer logos on one spoke, something that will be lost (forever!) if the rims are refurbished. The logos are NLA, but I guess something could be sorted as a one-off. This would return us to the (almost) Alpina-look Style 73s, which I confess I quite like. But cleaning them is a b!tch! (I know - no update on the hedgehog replacement. another time.)

First attempt at some kind of hyper-miling in the e36 while away on an easter trip. Full tank of BP 98, on Thursday night. Refilled again today with 54.74L, which got me 690kms exactly. Comes to a real world fuel usage of 7.93 L/100km. Very impressed indeed, for a 2.8L sports car made in the 90s that I bought for $5000. According to the OBC. Not too much variation.
