Oh right sorry, I know what you mean. Wasnt sure if you had tried Google translate yet. I was trying to figure out the menu system of a Chinese auto arc voltage controller yesterday for a customer and one part translated into "call the police"

Spotted a Black F10 at the lights today and when I pulled up along side there was a little grey haired old lady in the drivers seat. Hate to say it but my first thought was "that cars wasted on you". She looks over and sees me looking and gives me a smile. Lights turn green and I'm left eating her exhaust. Smoked at the lights by a 70 year old lady. Not cool. Hope she had a good laugh about it. I did..

http://bimmersport.co.nz/topic/52424-quick-rant-thread/?p=578759 Today my Neighbor came over to be nosy about the work I was doing in the back paddock and to her credit when I explained that the Willow trees from her property had grown their roots through the run off for the septic tank she was very apologetic and straight away asked if she could pay a share of the costs. How nice was that? So nice I thanked her for the offer and said it wasn't necessary. Not often in this day and age people are so forthcoming. Made my day.

Hi guys after an oe, riding a triumph bonneville, having kids (and so getting rid of the bonneville) I'm back with a 2006 325i msport in my favorite colour. Was willing to get a 320I to get manual but the auto turned out OK as a compromise. Love the car and for the first time ever don't feel the need to change anything other that getting nz radio bands if anyone here provides a service? Anyway, crappy phone pics below, cheers

When selling the 850i I would regularly get over 70 watchers but not one would contact. Then again, I am guilty for putting things on the watchlist only to see what it goes for.

Well the bank owns about half now. Doubling your coin from your employer is great on paper. in reality, often doesnt check out, your employer is not silly when they are preparing your renumeration package, regardless of if you are CEO or bottom of the barrel. your employer is meeting thier obligations by "matching" what you are putting in, in reality, they just didnt give this to you in the first place. Combine this with the fact that your investment is likely to only keep up with inflation over the long term for most conservative funds (which is essentially the definition of inflation if you think about it), while growth funds have higher risk which in most cases do not match the level of risk the people they are targeted at can afford if it all goes pear shaped. On the other hand, using your contributions to pay down your credit card, car loan or personal loan that is costing you 20% or your home loan that is costing 5-7%, kiwisave doesnt stack up. Reasons to be in: you have poor financial literacy and dont understand why you should be saving for the future ie you spend every dollar in your pocket every week you do not own your own home yet and do not intend to for 5 years. only have small amount of debt, or only interest free debt (eg student loan) 55-60+ years old. Otherwise, you are better off building your own future in most cases. **note i am not qualfied advisor. however should you choose to use a qualified one, have in the back of your mind who pays them to help you.

Own your own home with or without mortgage?I am not in KiwiSaver for 2 reasons. The first is quite specific (the terms of my employment mean I would effectively pay the employer matching), but the second is because as I have a mortgage my view is any cash I pay down the mortgage with is like a AAA rated 5-6% cash (post tax) return. AAA rated as I definitely owe the bank, and post tax return as I pay the interest out of post tax earnings. I can't beat that as a risk free return, but if I had employer matching KiwiSaver would be better. I will either join KiwiSaver or invest in some sort of fund(s) once the mortgage is done (I need to think through the maths on govt contributions vs flexibility outside KiwiSaver given I pay my own employer contribution). The fat cats know what they are doing and are quite well regulated now. It's worth doing research on returns for different funds, and also understanding the difference in risk and return profile and what is appropriate for people of different ages. But I disagree on "increasing tax and super". The point of KiwiSaver is to build a defined benefit and reduce the future (unmanageable) tax burden. Super is going to go down eventually (or the age get pushed out). For those who can afford to be in KiwiSaver, it's a good deal. Assuming you get the govt contribution and employer matching very few people are good enough at investing or making some other investment decision (eg investment properties) to beat a (risk free) doubling of their investment in the first year. Risk free is the key. A bit rambly sorry, but hopefully the point makes sense.

Yet another update. Thanks to Glenn's suggestion i found some info about how the computer reinitialises its peripherals after you clear the adaptations, for future reference the procedure is to turn the ignition to position 2, don't start the car, leave it like that for 30 seconds and you'll hear a bunch of clicking as the computer relearns what its got connected to it. Then turn the ignition off for 10 seconds. Then start the car and it should be back to normal. So that resolved my failsafe issue. Afterwards i cleared all the codes and took the car for a drive to see what popped up; General cylinder misfire code and 'Zyl 6' Misfire code. We're getting somewhere now. So off with cylinder 6's coil and swap it with cylinder 5 and clear the codes and off for another drive. Now we've got a cylinder 5 misfire, ah ha! I've bought a replacement coil off trademe and we'll see how that goes when it arrives. In the meantime its interesting to consider how the standard OBD tools pointed towards cylinder 2 instead of cylinder 6. Obviously the BMW software is designed specifically for BMWs but the software is not interpreting the codes and coming up with its own ideas, it's simply reading what the DME has stored there. Ultimately what i'm saying is that surely if the DME new enough to store the BMW specific 'cylinder 6 misfire' code then it could have also stored the generic OBD cylinder 6 misfire code instead of the cylinder 2 misfire code. Long story short i'm sold on the 'proper tools' and wouldn't recommend trusting the OBD plug, at least not on a car equipped with a 20 pin plug under the bonnet and certainly not with generic software.
