After seeing this post I got excited and bought it. Still unsure what the market value is for these so time will tell if it's a good deal. Either way I'm stoked with it. Exterior is mint, interior is sh*te. Managed the 1400km or so battle throughout many detours from Christchurch to Auckland the weekend. Was a cool trip with my partner (previously mentioned, Bianca). Time now to overhaul the coolant system, trans etc. Photo taken on Lewis Pass, awaiting the exploding chemical truck to be cleared.

I would say that is a great price for that car looking at the kit it has on it / in it and the pedigree it clearly has. I just wish I could love the E36 the same way I love the E30, so much more bang for buck...

The painter that previously owned this car lived in Kilbrinie and I'd see this parked on the street with paint tins, drop sheets and all sorts of gear in the back all the time. It was his daily and work wagon which was kinda cool. I've seen one other in Welly that was pampered, garaged, mint condition, black and manual. Not sure if it was NZ new though...

https://www.trademe.co.nz/1371839114 looks really well cared for, tasteful but aggressive stylings.

I would be seriously concerned that the China Specials are clones, that look the same, you ship them your OEM one and they could return a Modified China Special that looks like it...

Haha, yes, 1UZs are dead to me. That's why I put a 3UZ in my Soarer I currently have. Would love to put one in an E46 touring some day. Just such a dependable package I know how to work with (over M and N series V8s or expensive S62) PS, Euro V12

I dunno, those look more reliable.

I wasn't worried, just thought you might have missed the earlier post. I have a 325iQW which can't be corrected without too much effort, so I'm aware of their general ineptitude!

Beautiful example. They are such a timeless shape. Makes me want one to spoil with a Toyota V8 under the hood.

yes but there are some "msport" options that are actually desireable...ie the seats and suspension. An Msport badge and steering whells do not a msport make

The fit out of a genuine M-Sport does not vary that much - the only thing that can be changed is the suspension, M sport can be swapped out for std shocks and springs. However, some M-sport options such as the suspension can be added to non-M-Sport cars, such as this one, which is why it has 704 in the build sheet. A genuine factory M-Sport will have option code 337 M-Sport Pack, or on older cars 336. This is a "package" of options all bundled into one number, like 704, 710 Steering wheel, body kit, anthracite headliner, 481 Sports seats, plus the trims and badges. This car has obviously had some parts swapped into it during it's life as those look like M3 Vaders which were not an option from factory on non-M3s, plus the rims which could be genuine. Overall it looks good, the swaps are in-keeping with the car and it is tidy overall.

My old car Regret selling it, was my first BMW also. In excellent condition, new owner has treated it well, he flew to Auckland from invercargill and drove it back down in late 2014. EDIT: Oh - those are also fake europlates. Never had an issue with them. Were on the car when I bought it. Standard plates are probably still in the spare wheel well.

I'd just look for a similar but better condition 728i to come up for sale. Could spend a small fortune trying to fix up the issues yours has.

Those blue silicon hoses look awful. Sorry for your loss.

If the temp isnt getting out of the blue zone it will be running a bit rich, also the wagons are heavier and thirstier anyway. I think this is the model that BMW developed the tailgate wiring loom problem for, but its probably been sorted by now.

Good progress Friday but shite Saturday. Managed to wing a weekend off from the Fam Dams so I can play with the car. After convincing myself that I should definitely NOT to upgrade most of the fuel system in one go, I woke and did just that. SO removed the Stage 2 fuel kit/pump a Walbro 450G/hr, I put together a Stage 4 system of 3 x Walbro 450G/hr and meaty electrical system. Almost there. BEFORE = Stage 2 - 1 x 450G/hr AFTER = Stage 4 - 3 x 450G/hr With the intake manifold change, there are some wires to extend, my friend Lars will do this tomorrow or else he can stop drinking my beers. Dummy slapped the turbo into position Hmm, heaps of sh*t to sort out

Disclaimer, I sold my W211 E55 for an M5, so read into that what you like

Manage to sort it, I'll leave this up and explain in case anyone else comes across this issue. Ended up taking the motor from the links and pulling apart, and just lightly scratching the surface of all the connections. Chucked it in and away it went, must of been a bad connection to the motor when regarding the lower speeds. Might be helpful for someone else in the same boat and not wanting to buy a new motor.
