It looks like I have been doing it wrong, oops

It's been a while - had to work over labour weekend so no progress for 2 weeks. I now have a week off work as days in lieu... Since HB day was on the Friday I got 4 days so took a days annual as well. The only thing left to do is test the software. I'll start this tomorrow and see how badly wrong it is. Following is some progress photo's. The new PCB fits where the old aluminum water pipes came out and headed towards the firewall. I've bunged up the two openings where the water pipes and aircon pipes came through. Where the old heater core used to sit also needed a plate fitted which worked out well because it's also where the cables now come out. A plate was fabricated to fit and then holes drilled for the cable entry. The cables that go out to the water solenoid on X35 and X10054 have been clipped off near the connectors and joined into the control cables for the new board. This means the original solenoid plug can be cut off or just tied off (at least it's not powered now). Side view showing how the board fits where the pipes came out. Ouch. Good luck dude, I read a few stories like this just a month or so ago. Needed to get into the E36 boot with no key access and no battery. At least I had a coupe but it was still a PITA and in researching it I read some pretty tough stories from sedan owners. Lucky we don't keep kids in there eh?

It's been a while, not much to say really except the car's off the road at the moment because of a dodgy DME (ECU). In the meantime I've been replacing the wiring loom in the trunk, it's common for the wires from the lid to the main body to wear and break or short (you should check yours if you have an e36 or e39). Anyway, the e36 replacement "repair" loom from BMW (61-12-8-391-788) comes with wire tails and silly little solder connectors so I replaced those with a proper plug. How they come: Spades clamped on ready to solder: Finished plugs: Trunk lid is now done and back together, including routing the existing spoiler cable. Now I need to do the chassis side which will be a little less convenient!

318 m40 manual box mates with m50 and m52 but not m20. I will have 89 manual 318 coupe for sale soon!!! ?

If I can't find anything genuine then yeah I have seen those too. It's just that we have genuine everything else just need pods

Thanks all. Have tried lubricating it etc. From what I understand, the valet lock disengages the boot from the electrical lock system, so not sure if I can engage it electrically in anyway - but might be wrong. Waiting for a call back from one more locksmith. Depending on their response, next step might be to take it to the dealership and see what they say. Not planning to drill any holes until I've exhausted all options :-). Still got Saturday night's groceries sitting in there, going to start to stink soon..

Finally after a long grueling process the v8 has passed all its checks and the cert plate has been ordered. So excited to finally have this car almost completed, unfortunately not early enough to be ready for mega meet. But bring on the summer cruising!

that particular car or the HD12 in general?They were specced by BMW NZ to be a M5 lookalike.They were about 150 k in 1990.The e34 M% would have been about 200k so BMW NZ thought a poor mans M5 would be appropriate.In 1990 NZ was still in the throes of a financial crash that started in 1987.All the hd 12 were the same with electric adjusted sports seats Mtech suspension and body kit,Manual ,and the auto air con.I think i have my build sheet somewhere still

Have been playing around with BMWFlash and Ecuworx software, man its amazing what the community has put together out there. Ive flashed the DME to enable shift lights like the CSL, disabled cat warmup, cat protection and tried the build journal burble overrun - stage 1 and 3, all this for about $30 worth of software and a $20 cable. Plus i can put it back to stock anytime. Worth a look if you have an E46 M3

Can't understand how different dealerships can have such differences (>200%) in price... Yup, waste engine heat conversion into heat inside the cabin is close to 100% but then it all leaks out so effectively 0%. Otherwise you could turn your heater on for 5 minutes and then turn it off again and you'd stay warm for ever... Yup again to the alternator but the conversion of fossil fuel to rotational energy is around 30% then the alternator 95% so close to 30% effective efficiency conversion from fossil fuel to heat (not 10%)... We're also only taking about 0.6kW of energy, it's bugger-all. It's a project being done for the fun of it - I don't care if it's not particularly efficient.

Replaced the plugs and coils tonight, apparently if one goes then the others aren't far behind, plugs looked in good condition so happy to see that. Test drive felt like a little more power and less hesitation, a couple of hills where it would normally start to lumber and change down it keep the same gear which was interesting. Easy job, 45mins.
