Be aware Graham, when you put the new hub onto the spindle, do not hit the hub. The outer bearing inner race can come out..... end of bearing assembly. Find a large socket that goes over the spindle and matches the inner race and make sure when you hit it on it is square to the spindle.

When you put it that way, its a stupid amount of car for the money. Not much beats it for value.

I swapped on a known working maf from my other car and after 200kms of driving the engine light has not come back on yet so fingers crossed.

lol this thing is fun, even the auto box is a delight in sport mode. The car is way quicker than I imagined it would be and it has hydraulic rather than electric power steering, bonus. The seats and suspension probably feel better than my M3. ? I played with all the settings that mapped across from my '08 coupe manual and have set it up how I like. Tilt might need some inspection on the driver's seat, it clicks but then does nothing but the current position is okay for now. It has privacy glass too. I'm impressed that the radio preset buttons are capacitive touch buttons as well as proper buttons, that's cool. Not enough pockets and no coin storage, that's a bummer. I could use the cup holder for coins but it's not ideal and there seems to be no OEM solution. I washed it by hand today and exposed all the imperfections and there are many. Looks great from a few metres out but not so good on close inspection. I knew this going in though and I'm not at all concerned with what I see. I'll probably pay for a good cut and polish in due course and see where we go from there. More pics... These must go... These can stay... 100% happy so far.

So I'm getting an engine shipped from Auckland to Christchurch to replace the one I destroyed on Raupuna... I'd like the rod bearings replaced and oil sump baffling installed. Probably something like what this guy did: https://bmw.spoolstreet.com/threads/addressing-n5x-oiling-and-spun-rod-bearings-accusump-installed.4034/ If other reliability modification like a secondary oil pump can be done at a reasonable cost I'm up for that too. I just want to be able to take this on track without worrying about blowing another engine because it's f**king expensive ? Any recommendations on who can do this?

Part number 26117514120. BMW say ex Germany so 6 weeks away. Wanted sooner the better. Pulled my e46 M3 drivshaft apart to replace the centre bearing support. It had the wrong centre bearing (from 330d). So when I installed the new CB it's now missing the ring that sits between it and the rear half of the driveshaft. Part is common across 330i e46 as well as e60 petrol amongst others. D=30X36X1,0-CRH Box of beers if you are in welly, or other means of payment if not. cheers in advance

Hello everyone, I may have joined ages ago when I was looking for an E34 Touring, in order to replace the one I sadly had to leave behind in the UK, but now I have finally come back to owning a BMW after digressing into Audi territory (Sorry about that, but good E34 Tourings are rather hard to come by here). On Friday I picked up a 2006 525i E61. I had studied the available options on Trademe, learned as much as I could about E60/61s, test drove a number of cars and eventually settled on the car I brought back from Auckland yesterday. The ex-Japan car has 109,000kms, (of which I have already put on just over 750kms), was imported in 2017 with one previous owner here in NZ, metallic blue (which makes the wife happy ?), has a black, full-leather interior and my preferred choice of walnut veneer finish and five-spoke alloys, as well as non-runflats. The previous owner also purchased a full-sized, five-spoke spare wheel, but strangely no jack or wheel-brace. (Since rectified by a visit to Euro1). It doesn't have a moon-roof, which I am ambivalent about as my E34 had one and, apart from it leaking a couple of times in torrential downpours over six year's of ownership, it never gave me any trouble. It was, however, wonderful on the English summer evenings (when there weren't torrential downpours that is). Although it is ex-Japan, the radio has been fully converted to NZ stations, and not just by fitting a band expander, as well as having full NZ/Aust navigation. It also still has the original Japanese owner's books and manuals, and although I can't read any of them, there is enough info to show it was serviced from new at a BMW dealership. Overall it is an excellent condition and I'm looking forward to trying to keep it that way. Attached are a few images from my trip back home yesterday. Looking forward to being part of this community and thanks to those who answered my earlier query about spare-wheel kits.

Fronts are easy Graham, especially if you're starting with a new hub/bearing assembly. Remove wheel, remove caliper, remove rotor, pull hub, anti-seize the bearing interface on the spindle, wack on new hub (rubber mallet), replace rotor, replace caliper, replace wheel, drink beer. The hardest part will probably be getting the old hub off, it could range from easy through to PITA so be prepared for either or anywhere in between. In the worst case the bearing will separate and leave the inner race stuck on the spindle. The easiest way to get it off in that case is probably with a Dremel.

Well, maybe... NZ Couriers have noted on the tracking that 'the office is closed' (there are people here - I was here!) and invite me to contact my local branch. Phoning the local branch goes through to an after hours message... Office is open from 7am through to whatever time. The local drop-off point (Caltex) tell me that service has been terrible lately... Edit: I take it back. This has to be easier to fit than just a new bearing! That said, anything I should be watching out for...? Not done one of these. On a BMW. Yet.

Just got my first BMW. So glad to see there's an active community in NZ. I know nothing about them so will be asking for help at some point. Cheers. Bill

The Very Nice Man has confirmed it is a bearing. No noise, even smooth noise, when the wheel is spun, but it is definitely there under load, especially on right hand turns (it's the left front bearing). Described as not being as bad as it could be, and that it'd probably pass a WoF. ? Still, that's not good enough. It needs to be sorted. Which leaves me in a bit of a muddle. Do I try to sort it myself, with (I suspect) insufficient tools to do the job properly (I've done a bit of research and there are pullers involved that I don't have), or do we accept 'she'll be a'right' a while longer and get it sorted after 6th January when the world starts turning again? Olaf makes an excellent point - I don't want to - won't - run a risk of Miss M having problems on the way home. Edit: replacement part ordered. After discussion I'm getting 'more' than just the bearing - I've seen how the bearing is replaced and it looks like it could be a PITA. So I'm getting the bearing and bearing housing. Should be a unbolt, bolt-up job. I hope.

It's going to see a Very Nice Man who will hopefully be able to achieve what I haven't had time to do - diagnose what is wrong. Further thought and discussion (with the Very Nice Man) suggests it might not be a wheel bearing... That could just be my knee-jerk guess at the issue. Might be a tie rod. Or a mount. Or... Well, it is definitelysomething. And it needs sorting. Fingers crossed...

224,000 km Weird clicking in the cabin has been solved. Turned out it was the seatbelt receiver's old plastic guides being noisy...took abit of detective work to figure out where it was coming from, lubed it up with some plastic friendly grease and it's nice and quiet now. Replaced drivers side door seal, it was on the first list of things to do.....finally got it done. old: New: man that feels good. I got a new lens, 105mm Macro......took it out for a little test run tonight. I also put the sub back in the boot. It really rounds out the sound nicely...the wiggles never sounded so good ? Should probably vacuum the boot sometime too..

“Gets lots of attention, people stop to take photos” - possibly not for the reasons you think though. Those flares are awful, not blending the front and rear bumpers in just makes them look like the have been thrown on and not finished. And as for the asking price “tell him he’s dreaming”!

Stunning. i suggest waiting another 12-18mo till house values well and truly fall out of the market, then sell this to fund your home. chances are houses will be cheaper then, and the value of your M would have probably gone up in the interim! win : win !!!
