Hi all, New to these parts, but have owned a E34 93 540iA in Alpine White since 2012, drove it as my daily until the start of 2020. Was costing to much to get my son to football trainings, lol. But in saying that I have just recently bought another E34, but a 96 540iA, and yep in Alpine white, lol. Hey just cant help myself, just love a E34 in white. Yes was on trade me. My 93 had 289km when i got it, really drove it, my son and I would often head to the snow, what a great 4 and half hour drive that is. Well sometimes a little quicker. Remember giving a Q7 a good run back to Auckland one time. Now it has around 380km and still kicking strong, about 15k also helped keep her maintained as a daily. Just about to get heater core done and 2nd radiator, and then finally panel n paint. Yeah this car isn't going anywhere, my son already taking ownership, cant blame him, he grew up in it., loves the thing as just as much as I do. Now I have the two, the 96, I will keep it how it is since it has the lower kms at (146) and is in pretty original condition body wise, hell, still has the BMW torch in the glove box. Will change mags to a nice set of BBS's I have. Then this gives me the opportunity to body kit the 93 out, should be ready for pics in about 6 months time. Look forward to sharing. I just love the idea of having a stock looking and a modified looking E34 540iA, but now this leaves me with the question, do I need to buy a E34 540iS? why yes I do. Seriously, if ones up for sale. Did someone say E34 M5! Hahahaha, I wish, cant afford that dream. But def keen on the 540iS. Peace n all that

My X5 40D went in yesterday for an intake manifold and intake port clean. I felt like the 306 hp just wasn't quite there and after looking at the intake ports with the manifold off it was clear why. For those of you who have seen N54 intake ports this will be very familiar, carbon and soot lined the intake port walls to around 20 to 30 percent of their volume. The valve stems were twice the size and the back faces of the valves were thick with carbon. The guy doing it has his own walnut blasting machine and is doing the ports tomorrow. He cleaned the manifold and it looked spotless as did the EGR and throttle body/ anti shudder valve. I will have some pictures in the next few days.

Having done a few E36 manual swaps I'd be recommending you find a decent factory manual or one already coverted with everything feeling solid and sorted. The costs can run quite high for the swap and parts are getting harder to find. The 'manual kits' I see on trademe typically run around 2k for an unknown milage four cylinder setup, but are just a starting point really (you'll still need to invest to get them up to standard). I usually budget around 4k for a manual swap (more if it's a known low milage ZF) which is probably money better spent towards a nicer car.

152,300 kms. Both front wheel bearings replaced and new fuel filter installed last week. Thankfully this has eliminated the whining noise I had coming from the front of the car when cornering at speed. Sheโ€™s much quieter. Bliss. Replaced the banged up standard plates with some euro plates too. Love how it looks now.

M5 update All going well ... Got Tony from Wheel Magician Welly to tidy up the two right wheels - much nicer and I can stop grimacing when looking at them. No before pics as sorting these was a 'might as well do it now' decision 335i 1 rim tidied up - never got around to this after buying the car back in 2019... X5 Have had the brake light trifecta pop up randomly when cruising along - then on next restart, cleared. Jon read the codes and it was reporting 'brakes hot'??? and pressure sensor error So it has been in for a thorough service... replace faulty viscous fan hub checked diff oil levels, replace transfer case oil as it was dark brake bleed install new ABS pump - to cover the pressure sensor error, and I've had the new ABS pump sitting idle since it came with the new ECU installed some time ago replace leaking washer motor fix puncture in spare wheel I do like the X5 but it hasn't exactly been... hassle free!

A great run, Audi managed to have no problems for 5 weeks. Now dealing with a mystery battery drain issue... Battery tested healthy, alternator charging it fine but then drains overnight. Wife is working today (AKL Anniversary) so had to drag me out of bed at 630 to jump start it but no luck (leads may not be big enough to revive a dead battery and the Audi battery is literally twice the size of the one in the E46). So she had to take the E46 - first time she's driven it in a year, got to hear the clutch riding and engine screaming up the road - sounded pretty damn good though ๐Ÿคฃ

Quick update on the M5... All put back together Has been on a ~100KM run - all good The tints have been removed and *thankfully* the rear demister is still working - always a risk when tints are removed. I had a look at the standard glass on another E60 M5 and thought 'that will do' - so I haven't bothered getting new tints added back on. new LH wing mirror glass is in - much better it has a shiny new bonnet badge - the old one was, well a bit old and sad looking I asked Jon to replace the LHS fuel sender to try and deal to the occasional stalls I had - so that's going in next, along with... a replacement fuel tank! Jon noted the significant suction when taking the gas cap off to refuel - and knew straight away that there's a problem with the tank. He found a crack and it is deformed around the LHS sender. Fortunately, he was able to source a 2nd hand tank. So had hoped to get it back this week but looks to be early next week instead. Oh well

Hey Aidan Well TBH I don't know the exact cost as Jon is applying T&M to this... Bearing kit inc Vanos line from Turner Motorsport - ~$2600+ ~$500 for Customs/GST Open up, inspect bearings and crank $900 Rest of the labour to come! So I'd say figure on $6K and if you have a thorough mechanic there will be other stuff that you end up doing - but it will depend a lot on who you get to do the job, labour rates etc. And I will let you know once it is done and dusted. This aligns well with what BMW Workshop in Akld estimated: "The big end bearings can be done in place. The same time you should replace the high pressure vanos feed hose. If all goes to plan the job normally ends up at approx. $5500.00 +GST." So put that in your budget - but allow for the other stuff.
