2 pointsYeah, its looks great, but given my own recent experiences with hidden rust I doubt there are any rust free ones (that have not been disassembled and dealt with) kicking around. Off to treat / bandaid rust on my seemingly lovely E30 😂
-
2 pointsWikipedia agrees with you...given the propensity of E30's to rust I'd want to go over it with a fine tooth comb (first 5 yrs spent in UK). Alpina rims just look so good though.

2 pointsFor your car, you might be better spending the $s on an M3 LCA kit and wheel alignment

2 pointsI hesitated, was a manual-only guy, happy with the auto for a daily now, have the M3 for manual fun, I've gained a lot and lost nothing important.
-
2 pointsBefore and after, need to go out for a good drive now on the new wheels / tires. now that you can see the callipers I feel a strange desire for beefier better looking ones. First time driving it on non run flats and maybe it’s just placebo but it feels so much less harsh and more comfortable.

1 pointIf its any help, Basil tuned my B47 about 3-4 years ago and I've put about 40,000km on it since. Full economy is better post-tune than prior. The biggest improvement is drivability - the engine revs build more quickly and more smoothly, it feels like an engine which loves to rev now. I dont know what the peak numbers changed to (and dont care), but the day to day experience has been worth every cent. I can imagine that for a 130/135 the question of useable traction might be more significant.

1 pointJust saw that, looks fantastic! I wonder what the reserve is. Not an M325i but same same really.
-
1 pointYou'll probably find, depending on spec, you will have trouble getting an e91 on most commercial ramps as they are really steep and will hit the bumper. I've had mine for years but barely use them because of this.
-
1 pointI always ask for a dyno graph that my tunes are based off The tune I got for my N54 130i is attached It feels every bit of that.
-
1 pointBit of an example on chiptunings website of mallarky unfortunately - Both of the listed examples produce exactly the same power, its the same engine with same basic everything the matters. Yet somehow they have different outcomes... SAE changed the standard for measuring BHP in 2005/6, (SAE J2723 if anyone cares), so in BMWs case Pre-LCI e8/9x x30i cars got measured against the old standard, LCI cars against the new. New standard is much tighter defined, and resulted in BMW N52s case of a few hp drop. This is why PreLCI N52s are 265bhp, and LCI 258bhp, yet in reality they produce the same power. Various markets require various standards beyond the SAE stuff (like the German DIN standard), and so even more slight variances occur depending on where the car was sold ( and then when the internet starts spreading numbers in a dick measuring contest, and forgetting the real context - Its the same engine with the same DME, same internals, same intake, and same exhaust)
-
1 pointA custom tune is not practical without a dyno, road tuning it is not economically feasible, how else could you measure it? If anyone claims they can give you a custom tune for your car ask them how they measure the benefits of their work. Edit: these engine are well known, the shelf tunes that are out there are probably as good as you can expect now, whether it's 270 or 280 horsepower really doesn't matter, just use somebody competent. Whatever you do, unless you nanny it, your fuel economy will go to sh*t with a performance tune, be prepared.
-
1 pointThe place gofaster mentioned says they don’t just grab a generic flash but make a custom tune for your car and your usage. But I don’t think they dyno it, not sure on that part though.

1 pointFun day scavenging at Pick-A-Part today. Pretty chuffed with the boot liner especially, didn't know that was an option for sedans.
-
1 pointJust quoting their website, best you call Basil to discuss (no affiliation other than happy customer)
-
1 pointFantastic aesthetic improvement! And no, go-flats are much more comfortable, it's no placebo.
-
1 pointI use Basil at Autopassion(Chip tuning website) for all my flashes. Their website quotes the E90 330i (same engine?) Old power 190kw/258hp and 300nm to a tuned output of 210kw/285hp and 336nm.

1 pointBuy it @Choo! Spec looks good, it's on star-marked Potenzas (sure sign that there's been some maintenance) and should be a nice middle ground between the 116i and thirsty 135i
-
1 pointYes, it's a thing, ~280hp is the standard claim, I couldn't tell you where to get it done though I'm afraid. My auto box has also been flashed and it's feral in sport mode.

1 pointY'all likely know the weak point with E30/E36/E46 rear shock mounts and E36/E46 front strut mounts cracking or warping. I learned the hard way years ago, and I didn't want to get caught out again so had some reinforcement plates cut out! Offering cheaper pricing to Bimmersport members, than trademe/FB marketplace. Rear reinforcement (E30, E36, E46, and Z3): - 3mm mild steel + bituminous coat (the coat is only to avoid surface rust while storing for spares) - Swag gaskets (OE spec) Front reinforcement (E36, E46**): - 3mm stainless steel (11G) - Elring gasket (OEM) - Designed to allow camber adjustable top plates. **Note - The E46 had a 'poor road package' option which came with a similar reinforcement plate. The front plates will fit most E46 aftermarket strut mounts with no modification, and also factory strut mount with another hole drilled for the aligning dimple. $40: Rear set including gasket-washers. $85: Front set including gasket-washers. $110: Full set of front and rear, including all gasket-washers. Postage anywhere in NZ included, or can pickup in Auckland. OEM part numbers: 51718413359 - Z3 M rear strut reinforcement 33526772864 - rear washer-gasket 31312489795 - M3 3.2 front strut reinforcement (do not allow for camber adjustment) 31331094288 - front washer-gasket **E46: 51717036781 - Reinforcement, supporting bearing

1 pointStaggered tyres and making near the only rear wheel drive hatchback on the planet drive like a front wheel drive generic transport box is one thing, but taking the musical instrument off of an N52 is straight up heretic talk! As Dave says, they look cool. Ive had a good poke around the Simota/GruppeM/BMWP ones in person... The Simota is about the only one that stacks up all around, the GruppeM isnt actually that nicely made, the BMWP one looks nice but likely does next to zilch (and $$$$ if you can even find one), the Simota one is pretty nicely made and makes good induction noises. The stock 130i intake is pretty sh*t hot to start with, and makes hilarious fun noises if you take the lid off anyway. I even started CADing up a new airbox with the best bits of all 3 options, but just dont have the time to do it unfortunately. Ill probably get a Turner motorsport one when do the engine swap on mine, its available and will do as much as any of the others for performance (and noise), no carbon fancyness but meh.
-
1 pointWell, they look great but cost thousands, and the BMWP version is unobtanium. You'd not feel any power gains, they'd be marginal at best. The stock airbox is pretty good, replace the pipe and sound generator with a Mishimoto silicon hose or equivalent and drop in a K&N or BMC filter and you're probably sorted, all for less than $250.

1 pointMazda,s new stop start tech doesn't use a battery or the starter motor. It delivers a shot of petrol and a spark to the appropriate cylinder and away she goes.
