Continued assembling the block but stumbled onto an issue with the chain sprocket. Noticed that the rubber/plastic parts on it are visibly cracked and chipped away. I assume they serve as additional vibration dampeners so don't feel comfortable reusing it in this state. Have put an order in on a new one that will hopefully arrive beginning of next week. Will get onto other tasks in the meantime. Picked up this cheapish ultrasonic cleaner from Jaycar on sale that I've been using for cleaning up all sorts of bolts and smaller parts. Works a treat. Not industrial grade by any means but does the job. Using it with warm water and Simple Green concentrate for 5-8 minutes at a time. Eats away all of the lighter stuff and the rest of the varnish comes off easily with a little scrub. Time consuming process but well satisfying. Will put the lifters through the same treatment and get onto cleaning up the intake manifold whilst waiting on the crank sprocket.

It's been up a few times and hasn't sold... I'd want to know if the clutch was done alongside the engine. Also, halogens on an import? That's odd, and halogens suck hard on these things.

Usually happens if you have been doing short drives. Take it for a blast on the motorway and the tick should go away.

UK import, and been manual swapped, so take from that what you will. It does have PDC and cruise though.

Some of you might have noticed my car disappearing off trademe, but I didn't sell it! I actually did start to get some decent interest with some offers not too far off the asking price but in the end that just made me realise that I didn't really want to sell it afterall. It is way too much fun and I really couldn't see anything I wanted to drive more for similar money. On another note, I'd been getting pretty terrible fuel economy in it, averaging 11.5-12 l/100km on my daily commute. Having seen how much better fuel economy other people get I was wondering whether I had faulty injectors, or something else wrong to make it so bad. Then I decided to try driving it a bit more sensibly, and now for the last 6 weeks or so I have consistently averaged around 9.5 l/100km on the same commute!! Just goes to show... 🤣
