Bought this last Friday for a good price. Being a track addict these days I was keen to get in to something RWD. The Good… -All paint except rear bumper and hatch lid is original -New RE003’s 225/45/17 on all corners. I think the fronts should be 205/50/17 with these wheels? -BMWP 6 pot Front Callipers -Last owner had it 9 years. Presumably has had annual oil changes every 10-12k -Valve cover gasket recently done, waterpump and tstat look new. -Clutch feels bitey Not so good… -Oil pan gasket. No surprises. -Lifter tick seems persistent, even after bleeding procedure and open road driving -Usual old car wear and tear, the most annoying being the loose rearview mirror (previous installation error and loose retaining prong holding it to windshield) -Shocks feel tired -Needs new brakes all round No dme codes but I reset the adaptations and chucked some 98 in. Goes better now. Plan for now is to tidy it up, add some track focused mods and see how I go!

These are not comfort seats. There were 3 style of seats available with the E39 m5. Heritage leather is what appears here… vertical stitching. It was presented as a premium option and often in the day came with wood trim. The ‘Barry basic’ option available was the sports seats in ostrich pattern style leather… often came with titanium trim. These days the most popular option. The other option was comfort seats- totally different style. this car originally had fine wood trim and being a pre LCI had a different sat nav screen and different steering wheel. Phones gone too.

Odd how its only got the front, Im pretty sure the dealer package was front and rear? Probably not a bad thing as the BMWP rear disks are not easy to find as are specific to 130 with BMWP. Curious if you have +SPBR coded to the VO, will give you an idea if they were installed by dealer or someone found them at a wrecker in Japan. Good thing is NZ wreckers are stacked with lesser engined E87s, so trim bits etc are easy and cheap. I have 2 motorsports seats here in same spec (both tidy) if you are interested.

Comfort seats are easy to spot - no extendable thigh bolster which the other two kinds did have. @paulo would not be surprising to uncover a relationship between 'Jay from Hamilton' and the vendor. I wonder if he is a real estate agent...

I actually prefer these "Heritage" seats to the standard sports seats, and a whole lot more than the "comfort" seats. Seems to accentuate the whole luxury supercar sedan thing, esp. with the wood trim. I've driven the Christchurch European blue e39 M5, and can confirm that the "comfort" seats fitted to that particular car do no favours in terms of looks and support. And we're not even that comfortable.

I found it interesting that as soon as the auto bid of $19,999.99 from zero-rated "Jay from Hamilton" was exceeded by the $20k bid, the vendor posted a reminder comment that this was a $1 reserve, as-is sale and that "ANYTHING or EVERYTHING can be wrong with this car" Almost as if they were surprised (and possibly nervous?) that the bidding had reached that level?

No. you are levied duty and gst on the goods purchased. GST only on the freight. There's an exemption threshold of NZD1000 on goods for personal use. Here's a worked example: However, once you're over the threshold - you'll pay the duty and GST on the goods, GST on the freight, and you'll be charged IETF, BESL: "you have the Full House". And the kicker is - and it's not part NZ Customs website - now the freight company gets to charge you Brokerage - in recognition o how much running around they need to do to clear your shipment on your behalf! It's pretty fair really. If you're a useless tw*t and are unable to furnish the correct info responding quickly, they really do earn their fee in legwork. And of course there's the question of whether you need a Customs Client Code aka Customs Number - if you're doing over a grand in a shipment, time to get practiced at filling in those forms. What's a lad to do? Read the documentation, understand the processes, the laws, the thresholds. Buy smart. Before any lefty claims "but your exploiting a loophole you nasty petrolhead" be clear that you are working within the bounds of the law, importing within the thresholds set. Easy.

Ah yeah. This has happened to me in the past. Another reason I push spareto.com. It's just parts at the lowest cost. No discounts. No fake sales (hyperdrive). Clear shipping based on item weight. I've actually started using nocams.co.nz (old rotary website) for tyres for a similar reason. Their standard pricing is hyperdrives BS sale pricing. If there is a drop in price their website reflects it.

Well, I had the same issue of X5 imported from Japan. The connected drive system didnt work in NZ (New Zealand). When you try to download then register in My BMW app and after you insert your VIN number, the operation fails with an error saying that moving car country is not possible. I have resolved this issue, inspired by what some people said here, however, things are bit more tricky now, since BMW changed their system and changed the URLs for pages. and now once you try to register, they detect your country from your IP address. So, there's no basic way for you to go to BMW web-site in Japan and try to register there (they will at some point redirect you to NZ portal [which can be seen in the URL "Country=nz"]). So, I used a VPN to change my IP address to one in Japan, then I registered in BMW web-site (which is by default will be the Japan one), and used a new Email. Then everything will work, you will register in JP BMW web-site, then you go to "My vehicles" section and click on "add vehicle" (of course everything in Japanese). Then you add the VIN, and they will send a code to the car. You go the car then, open "Connected Drive" -> Messages. and get the code from a message they send to you (in my case it needed 3 minutes to arrive after turning on the car and waiting on "Messages" page. Get the code and put in it. Then Done. After that download My BMW app from scratch (remove it, if you had one before), and login using the email/pass you used to signup. Done Working 100%

Order arrived today. happy times ....... Missing the offset idler, box smashed up and open on one end ? WTF. Had a look at the last "Congrats your order is on its way" email at the item list, some idiot at FCP had removed the offset idler. So, first and last order with FCP, what a ball ache.
