Bit off an update. After 3 weeks. Total replacement with a brand new car with all the extras I had paid for... plus upgraded to the Elite Black roof model. I've gone for Lagoon Blue this time. I couldn't go with the Red again.

The Insurance repair cost was going to be $40,000 It doesn't look that bad but the car was f**ked. It saved me. I got "T" boned by 4 little f**kers evading police at high speed

Have decided to replace the factory exhaust system on arrival, with the uprated M Performance Exhaust. Not particularly cheap, but it makes the car sound infinitely better (lets that lovely straight-6 B58 sound out) without making it sound too loud, droney or chavvy. Also the M140i is famous for the stock exhaust flap making an annoying vibrating/buzzing noise on cold start, which the MPE completely avoids as it doesn't have anything like the same actuator flap.

Well the 90's has pretty well had its turns so now its onto the new millenium stuff. I think the older or more used 2000's cars are in a limbo position atm as they most arent new enough to be worth anything but not old\rare enough to be sort after, add more controversial styling wise, big step up in complexity\luxury, old\high enough k's to need replacements many original parts and many examples on the market. You can understand why many people ive talked to just want to get rid of them once they have seen a few big bills. I always tell them newer vs older is a trade off.

There should also be a code and the associated check engine light, assuming you haven't enabled the MHD flash setting that clears it. If you have, re-flash the map without the catless option or flash back to stock, and see if it comes up after driving a bit. But I'd say that's a good indicator it's catless. Catless downpipes make a very obvious difference to the sound, it's about twice as loud as stock. For the sound, it's also possible the 'PE mod' has been done. Look at the top and bottom of the mufflers to see if they've been opened up before, you'd see welds from it being sealed back up. Google the PE mod to see what to look for.

Everything's dropping - I've taken a bath on my e91 330i and my 325ti... reluctant to get another Beemer as it's just flushing dosh down the dunny - at least til I can get something less than five years old so I'll at least get some decent use out of it. Most >10yr old euro stuff is dropping like crazy - not just ours; but jeez it's ugly out there!

Aaahhh, my old car. Cost me more than $7k including the manual swap etc, and I still hear it from the wife! ? Would love to buy this back, but doing (forced!) house renovations, so that is where the money is going to now. Good luck though Al!

All finished except the reverse light wiring which will be done when i can find a low OBC wiring diagram. The new shifter setup using the shorter E60 lever and ZHP knob is much improved. The stock setup had the problems of being to tall for me which meant i couldn't relax my arm on the rest perpendicular to the knob. Truck throw length is gone also but shifting is slightly more notchy as expected, still very livable. Throttle response and off the line performance is day and night compared to the old auto, but that's party due to my old torque converter slipping a low revs. I'm expecting it to get even easier to drive and less fuel once i get used to the clutch and its fully bedded in. Counting down the k's till i can really give it a proper work and make it feel like it was worth the ~3.5k it cost haha.

Got the front bumper sorted with black msport trims to match but i do need to sort a rear one to re-enable rear PDC. Also fitted clear celis tail lights and fender indicators to match the replacement front Hella xenons, i did prefer the orange but it was easier to go with clears. Thought about doing shadowline door trim also but decided i like the chrome which compliments the wheels and grille, and its a bastard now so may as well continue with it. Going into Tuesday to do most of the manual driveline conversion with a hoist (thanks to Kerry at Mosens). After that i'll finally get around to lowering it once i decide on struts and sport seats when i find a good set.

It's not a case of winning or losing, but how you have the debate. BMW NZ does not maintain any delivery program, economically viable or otherwise, it is wholly under the control of BMW AG, and as such it is their terms, conditions and pricing that have to be applied. Which is why I was interested to see how much the US of A off-set the costs. Not 100% sure about the freight question, so i'll try to answer in two different instances, for a new car delivered in NZ there is no freight charge, even for cars delivered in Dunedin or Invercargill. For a Welt delivery BMW NZ cannot charge freight - it has to be organised by the owner of the vehicle and also it cannot be shipped on the same RoRo service as all the NZ new vehicles. Glad to see the yanks have cottoned on to shipping X5s back and forth across the pond, it was a few years ago that I saw them being delivered in the Welt to Billy-Bob and Betty-Sue so they must have worked out what it was costing them. The previous "Tourist Delivery" scheme that new cars were supplied under, even to NZ, was quite different from what I understand, and went back to the days of requiring overseas funds to buy a new car. There were quite a number of BMWs supplied in this way from what i have been told.
