Great excuse to go manual conversion ?

Yep and yep. There are plenty of peeps, relative petrol heads even, that think a 3 series M-sport is an M3. Funny thing is, I don't own an E90 M3 for how it looks, or what other people might think, but for the driving experience...something that's clearly lost on the owner of this thing ?

Good old fashioned bedding in/back road abuse today. They work nice, no squeeks/squeeling/weirdness. Bite hard and predictably, more feel than stock, and I couldnt get them to fade on the road (I could make the old pads start to fade on same road), pretty impressive for ceramic... couldnt really ask anymore out of a road pad! Tomorrow is about 12 hours driving in one day (Akl-New plymouth-Wanganui return), will see how they work down the coast

Well spent a fair bit of time on the door alignment....... Car goes back for a groom next week, if the boys dont give it a pass mark at the coffee meeting. I will get the panel beater to have a go.

Cleaned the seats today in the E39 and the toyota. Also Cleaned the boot floor liner in the E39. Had a few stains from previous owners, most of them came out with a good squirt of amourall upholstery foam cleaner.

I use AMI, they're OK to deal with and didnt bat an eye at my car (previously had engine swapped E30 with them, and modified WRX with them too) They also do agreed value rather than market if asked, for a reasonable rate.

Try connect another 12v car battery source to it via jumper leads and leave it for 1hr to give it some surface charge before charging

That is a good effort at really not doing a good job, the level of premium you expect from “Great Wall Motors” I guess. On a side note someone must have traded up from their X5 into a Great Wall..?

I would be getting time serts installed on this motor. Have you checked on the tools and equipment you will need to carry out this repair ?

Hi Zero. Thank you very much for reply and suggestions. Yes I'm gonna start disassemble most of the parts to see what I need to replace. I'll post several photos once I've done. The story is I bought this off auction very cheap and the dealer said they had no understanding of how the last owners have treated this car. When I changed the oil about 3 weeks ago or so it was way darker than black... Poor car...

I would love to Olaf, I keep saying every year that I will be doing it.. but the chances are pretty remote as I have too much to do on the car, and heaps of other things going on at the moment. You never know though, the garage pixies might finally show up and do some work for me..

Took it up to Auckland for Xmas and then over to Raglan for New Years and then back to Welly. Didn't miss a beat and got to stretch it’s legs. Stopped in and met @Lucan and picked up the roof racks he was selling a while back. Back down to Welly and gave the new snow foam lance a go Thought it was a gimmick but it's really good. At 208,000km I have just replaced: - Timing chain guides - Timing chain - Oil seperator (returned to OEM setup as PO had installed a catch can system) - Vanos Seals - Valley Pan - CCV - Water Pump - Thermostat - Coolant temp sensor - Engine mounts - Upper oil pan gasket - Lower oil pan gasket - Crank seal - Fuel Filter - Oil Filter - BMW coolant Thanks @Etwenty1 for hiring out his timing tool. Now that this is all done I will hopefully make it to the next Wellington Club meet. This ended up being a lot more time consuming than I thought and ended up having the car off the road for the last 7 weeks using spare hours here and there to get it done, learnt a lot and had to ask lots of questions from more mechanically minded mates but got there in the end. Here’s a few pics from my journey. I don't think I actually took a finished engine bay photo...but you get the idea. I do really regret not painting the rocker covers but I was pretty over it being in bits at this point...
