Just seen these pop up for sale, thought they might be of interest for someone. https://www.facebook.com/groups/947775921960959/permalink/7500982663306886/?sale_post_id=7500982663306886&fs=e&s=cl

Might have to hold off for the day. That shed would be handy 😅

Yes @gjm, take the wheels off. The swaybar and links can be installed/removed unloaded, there's no preload involved. With no end links the bar itself should pivot freely in its bushes.

I love mine. I could have bought an M340i (and BMW did try and sell me one when I tried to out-of-region special order the D, which they don’t do any longer), but I can’t fill up, drive to Bay of Islands, drive around for a week or two, then drive back, and not as have to fill up for another week in that. I can in the diesel. Not to mention to the torque. Any time, anywhere. If pushed, I’d say the only thing I miss about the petrol is the sound. There could be another for sale if I can find the Alpina I want. I don’t like iDrive 8, so trying to get pre-LCI. The one that appeared yesterday is sadly not VATQ: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202206086569797 I’m currently waiting to hear if I can have an August build slot. If so; I’ll have about 2 weeks to amend the build to what I want before it’s locked in. August build means the car won’t arrive until Jan though. The next diesel build run is on October, so won’t see the car until April next year. There is a nice B3 available, too: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202205055355393. A more comfortable, torquier M3 Touring without a face like a dropped pie.

I'll take a better video of the cranking tomorrow for about 10 seconds. I'll do it from the cabin so you can hear it like-for-like for the daily N47 drivers. Bad compression from a stretched chain is very plausible on these engines. Just to reiterate, I don't think it is the glow plugs. I'll look into the cam timing and compression checks. Thanks for the replies by the way.

Yes, agree, that doesn’t sound right at all. Our 116d (pretty much same engine) is completely different when cranking. Yours doesn’t sound like it is turning fast enough to catch and fire. I would think that is your issue, and not the glow plugs.

Does that cranking video sound VERY wrong to anybody else??? It doesn't sound like the compression is correct/evenly spaced. Compression test and check the cam timing??

You could try testing for voltage at the glow plugs when the ignition is turned on if you haven'talready. The glow plug controllers are a known issue, so it's possible it's not working and/or logging fault codes.

Is it logging any glow plug faults now? If it is that maybe your issue with it being so cold down there. It sounds like it is firing when cranking but probably only on 1 or 2 cylinders.

Ohh of course, another free listing day on TradeMe .........I'm lost for words...........all dealer bolt on bits. Shame about the wheels a good set is worth more than the ask for car 😁

Could you get one of those endoscope inspection cameras and poke it in the sensor hole and off to the side and see if the chain is still there?

Yup, definitely on the Lotto-win list. 335bhp/700nm standard.

Bring back the old school rear-facing 3rd row like MB (or the Tesla Model S has) and I'm all in! Once I win the lotto.

When you're cranking the engine do you see an engine speed signal from the crankshaft sensor in Ista? Also this mighy sound dumb but what's the condition of your battery? Could you post a vid of the engine while cranking?

If this were my kids doing I could understand it ... and probably change it. Instead I correct it and bite my tongue ... over ... and ... over ... again 😆

Are you able to get hold of any diagnostic software like INPA or ISTA? It would be handy to know the actual pre supply fuel pressure. The pre supply fuel pump maybe working but could be producing low pressure. It should be about 4 bar from memory.

Ordered some new subframe and diff bushings for the car, should be here in a week or so, hoping to get the subframe bushings installed soon and hopefully fix the sloppy/vague rear end. Should be a fun job... Diff bushings will go in later on, when I hopefully put in a Mfactory limited slip diff soon.
