Yeah I have a better chance of passing UE English now All these years of muttering monosylable grunts sounds like I cant speak fluent TXT
-
Totally agree mate! I got UE , meaning Un Educated [they should abolish the education system so we can all live in ignorant bliss] As for credits, I've got too many against my visa card already "the real education went on behind the bike sheds. Haha!"
-
Kimmie when you refered to 20" wheels, I hope you meant width! then you might have to go shopping for horsepower. I assume BMW parts are on your list of prefered wedding prezzy's [Congrats by the way]

E36 headliners are easy to pull ,go to: http://www.pelicanparts.com/bmw/techarticl...2-headliner.htm This should show you how. Get hold of "Hove" on this forum or at carspot. He deals in Beemers, so he'll know somebody in Hammyton that could help
-
If it's an E36, Drop it out yourself! I know a guy here in TGA that'll re-skin the fibreglass liner [& sunroof liner] for $200 Hey,I'm a Motor Trimmer & I won't bother doing it myself cause he's cheap! Smith Engineering in Maleme st TGA, will re-set your springs [while you are over here] pm me if you need to.

OEM pads are what I reccomend for Nana driving [street], Change to carbon-metallics for the track [it's a simple job] I don't like compromise street/track pads ,they chew discs when cold & fade at the track when hot! [unless you drive like a Nana at the track as well]

The non-vanos has longer duration cams to get the same power. the max torque is down slightly but it also needs to rev to 4700 [vs 4200] to get max torgue the real plus with a non vanos is the BOSCH DME instead of the Siemens unit [the Bosch can be reflashed ]
-
Mines an Iron Block M52B28, Give Me a txt or call if you wanna come round and have a look. I can get you a M50B25 non vanos if you want one
-
Hey Conrad! South Africa also did Iron Vanos engines because of their crap fuel . I've got one sitting in my shed [it was matching#'s when I pulled it from the car]
-
All them thar wires looks very impressive ,Dem phones will come in handy one day [Just don't hang ya-self on the phone cords in frustration]
-
It can also be a diode in the ALT [it'll still charge], or a short between the ALT light and the Exciter wire on the ALT [get a multimeter, they are cheap!]
-
This sort of sh*t happens all the time with car dealers [most people don't notice] The Guy's at Coombes in Tga are supporters of the new BMW race series Send Barry some Bimmersport stickers for their race cars [blackmail them into using them, because of what happened to your number plate surrounds] A win/win situation
-
It's already been done Mate! David Blackmore raced one at Whenuapai in the late 90's. It was Crazy [he ended up spinning it out, and getting T-Boned by Jacko's camaro amongst all the tyre smoke]

Do yourself a favor! go and buy a cheap multimeter from Dick Smith [approx $30] Measure the voltage at the battery posts [approx 12.5 volts] then measure again with motor running at idle [it should be 13.5 volts] This will tell if the alternater is charging If the battery goes flat over night, switch the meter to Amps, disconnect the Earth wire, then bridge over with the meter [remember to pull the fuses on anything with a memory, clock, stereo etc] it should be drawing zero current [if not, then disconnect the wire on the alternater] then if the meter reads zero the alternater has sh*t the regulator! You get to keep the multimeter afterwards [useful for stereo installs etc]
-
Yeah I know what you mean! High Metabolism and High Libido's [especially with my dog humping Gus's leg]
-
For casual racing don't worry about the weight of the wheels, get a cheap set of 17x8's [or 17x9's] that way you can use all the Slicks that the NZV8 boys throw out of their toybox [usually $80-$100 each] the tyres should get you about 3 seconds on taupo.[swap them to drive home] Get some adjustable platforms for the struts and mark 2 camber settings.[street & track] You really should have stiffer springs for the track, but stiffer anti-roll bars will compensate Trust me on those Carbon Metallic '90' pads. I managed 30 minutes non-stop around Taupo [old-track] in a Cortina with a passenger using standard brakes [there was no brake fade, but I did boil the fluid over coming into the pits] The "90's " will be agressive on the discs when cold, so heat them up [& don't use them on the street] After writing this, I'm thinking about doing the same to my E36 Join Taupo Car Club they have a neat winter series
-
Nah, Just done the car thing! I should've listened to your advice though! "Don't get on the piss with Gus & Andrew" Haha! [My Liver still aches just thinking about it]
-
Hey Mate if you are serious about track work, get steel rotors [not cast] otherwise use 'performance friction'-carbon metallic 90 compound pads [they are probably the best compound available when using stock brakes] If you use you car as a daily driver as well get a spare set of stock pads [and a spare set of race wheels] and change them at the track

I want a set of four 205/50x16 tyres for my girlfriends Z3, I've bought her a nice set of 16" alloys [it's the least I can do,as I've clocked up a few K's in her car while she is overseas] So if anyone has a set that are in good nick please pm me

Nokia 3310! is that one of those new fangled things? I'm still usin' a Nokia 5120 [with a high tech replacement face] & a 025 number Haha!
-
Yeah I realised the dates were wrong [as I hit the reply button] I see Gus is selling a "Dogleg" right now [He probably prefers the real thing. Haha!]
-
Hey,I enjoyed having you guys round for a quiet beer or two [or three or four] The entertainment was quite disturbing though! Especially the smile on Gus's face when my dog was humping his leg! hahahahahahahahaha! Are you Guys going to the Tasman meet at Puke' this weekend?

Your Car is a VANOS, the chains and tensioners are quite reliable . the VANOS units are notorious for rattling [the yanks describe it as "marbles in a tin can"] usually from 2500rpm-up under load. Whereas chains rattle at a 'held' rpm without load. Unplug the solenoid and try it!

When they refer to 5 points they claim 95 to 100 which is bullshit [not out of a 500ml bottle] Toluene is the main Aromatic used to boost octane in unleaded fuels , but they use up to 30% in unleaded race gas [CAMS V8 supercars], the sh*t dissolves rubber [Hence why all the Mk3 cortinas caught fire when 95 unleaded was introduced in NZ,Those clever Pommy designers put a rubber fuel line above the sparkplugs] I've used a Toluene brew to soften tyres, it also disolved my mobile phone when I got it on my hands The only thing Octane Boosters improve is the retailers turnover!
