This is pretty much what I think. I have only driven a LHD car in NZ a handful of times and hated it. However if you can get a very tidy car that is a hoot to drive as a weekend car, would it be worth it if you could save yourself a couple of grand on the purchase price?

Correct way? Managed to get it to lock in place and wouldn't come out despite giving it a good yank. Gearbox went in relatively easily once we had it all lined up. Will look into oil pump drive but would have thought I would have noticed breaking something.

No dipstick no but easily checked. I have spare computer here so will give that a go today

What have you lowered it with? Lowering springs?

Finally got some time to tackle touring 2.0 and put in the other gearbox. Started and ran just fine. Took it for a drive and noticed it was a little sluggish around changing down. Then halfway home, nothing. Lost drive, lost reverse, wont engage any gear, same symptoms when I bought it. Any ideas on what it could be? Low trans fluid? Computer? Anyone in Christchurch got a scanner? Car is a e36 328 auto

After driving my brothers e60 525 around over new years, I remembered how much I liked the 5 series however it definitely needs a v8. Doesnt have a towbar however thats more of a nice to have rather than a necessity.

Funny ay, most people wouldn't think twice about flying to Auckland and then driving it down. If I didn't have 3 cars already I would have probabley picked it up.

Can't you just appreciate it for what it is? The thing is 25 years old so will have some limitations due to modern technology being able to improve on it. But if you drive it within those limitations, you can still enjoy and have fun with it.

Win. Does it have an 'auto' option like the e60? Turns the lights on and off when you turn the car on/off.

E36 manual conversion - do you use a clutch/flywheel setup to match the engine or gearbox? I had it saved somewhere but can't find the answer anymore

The seats?? That is some weird stuff there. My mates s13 was knicked but they only got down the road as it ran out of fuel. They then tried to tow it using the seat belts. Didn't get very far either.
