Having worked on the LTSA datawarehouses I can tell you that you can register your car as pretty much anything you like ! You'd be amazed at what some people have on their registration stickers.

This is my understanding of it all. The original iphones were locked so you could only add applications that Apple wanted you to add, if at all. The term 'jailbreaking' comes from the firmware upgrade that you do in order to remove this restriction from the iphone and therefore allow you to add third party applications. It was the same for the itouch. With that (originally) you couldnt add any third party apps and you had to jailbreak it which basically requires you to reset the itouch and lolad some new firmware. Once done you can add as many application as the memory will allow. It took me about 5 mins to find all the details on the web (ziphone seems the best place) and another ten mins to have it all done. After that adding third party apps was as easy as pressing a coupe of icons and choosing what i wanted. It then downloaded via the wifi and installed itself. Its dead easy and mine even crashed the first time leading me to think Id just bought a very small brick, but another factory reset (within itunes) and I was up and running again. Basically I would recommend it to anyone, but then not everyone is happy to do this sort of thing without having tried it before. Ive flashed lots of mobiles and played with lots of gadgets in the past so Im happy to give it a go. Now in your case are you specifically talking about your new 3g phone ? If so then you may be in luck. Ive seen reports today that the 3g iphone has been already jailbroken and its only a matter of time before it hits the internet. This should allow yo to buy the phone in the States, ship it over, jailbreak it and run it on any network here that it can run on. The 16gb is US$299 so convert that, add the cost of postage and your done. [edit] sorry thats the cost of the phone if you buy a two year contract, I dont know what it is to buy it outright. As someone has already mentioned, Telecom are currently building their 3G network but they are currently deciding on whether to bin the original plans and to put it onto the 850Mhz range. What this would mean is that rather than only being able to get 3G in the main centers (as with Vodafone currently) you will get it anywhere you can get a signal with Telecom. Vodafone is on 2100Mhz (I think) which limits their 3g to the main centers only. Outside of that your back to bog standard 2G and GPRS Hope that helps.

What he said ^^^^ I know several people with them and not a single one would have bought it themselves if they had had the choice.

Title sorted. Skrillz, I reckon you should drop yours a little, too much of a gap in the arches.

hehe, that dispells the rumours that the entire country is sold out of 16gb phones !

I drive to the conditions and when they change I reduce my speed

Bluetooth headphones are not the same as accessing your music service wirelessly though are they ? Third party apps are going to be on the Apple store so there will be unlimited third party apps. Sheesh this is the world of the internet, anything is possible and with the ease of jailbraking itouchs and existing iphones who cares about the warranty ?

Another way of looking at it is from the demographic they have obviously aimed at and thats the business/corporate user. Currently if you want 600 mins, 600 texts plus a 1gb of data you pay around 275 a month, so the iphone1gb plan is cheaper. Add into the mix that comparible phones are all over 1k but the subsidised iphone is $349 it doesnt seem too bad a deal all of a sudden does it ?

You miss my point. Thats exactly what they said about Vicky and Tiff and look where they are now.

It happened ages ago. Top Gear was cancelled and 5th Gear was spawned with Vicky, Tiff and the rest of them going to channel 5. A year later Top Gear was back in its current format and has gone from strength to strength. May and Hammond were nobodies before TG and lets be honest, it may as well be renamed The Jeremy Clarkson Show because no matter who else is there, its his show.

The potential was there for VF to blow the NZ mobile market to pieces with a piece of hardware that can do it all. Whilst all my friends in the UK are buying it for the cost of a tank of petrol and have unlimited calls, text and data etc we are stuck with VF aligning it with their existing price structures which mean that once again NZ will lag way behind in the technology stakes. So 'expected' no, 'hoped for' yes. We obviously see the iphone as completely different items Carl. I havent heard the sound so cant comment and Id like to think the 3G would be seriously better than your 1st gen phone. I found sending emails on my itouch to be dead easy, much more simple to use that the text on my k800i. I probably send half a dozen pxt a year so that doesnt bother me either and if I want to take a decent picture of something Ill take a real camera, but for 'on the spot' snaps 2mb is more than adequate.Im not interested in lots of minutes or 50000 texts, what I want is data. the ability to sync my office email/calendar/contacts etc with my home email/calendar/contacts on one device and have my email 'pushed' at all times, to be able to use google maps with the GPS, as well as have my music and videos available, to surf the web when I feel like it, to control my home server from where ever I am, play music from my server in my bedroom using the wifi, to download files from the web for when I need to update my mums pc, to use voip for all my calls when Im in a hotspot, to listen to internet radio in my kitchen, to automatically download and start playing podcasts without the need for my laptop etc. The possibilites with data are endless, so for me, no its not just a phone !

What a disappointment $700 for a phone and then $80 a month with only 250Mb.....that probably gives you enough data to check the odd website during the month, a minimal amount of maps via gps and your email. Who in their right mind is going to spend $250 for a much more usable 1Gb to have a total cost over two years of over $6k ?!?!?! I see you can buy it and add it to your existing youchoose plan, but you have to sign up to broadband 200mb for $30 a month. Crazy when you their casual usage can give you 300mb a month for the same $30. I really dont see too many people buying them at this price to be honest.

Topics merged, cause we only need one my friend

Initial indications are that the iphone is going to cost FROM $199 on a two year fixed contract. The plan details are due to be announced tomorrow at 10am. There will be three stores nationwide open at 12am if you feel so inclined but sales will be available over the internet at midnight aswell. Sounds promising.

Yeah mate, hang around a little longer and get to know the people on here and you will find that as well as a world of information there is plenty of pi$$ taking along with it.

Couldnt agree more. Labour is doing everything it can to lose this election but are the alternatives any better than what is happening at the moment. National sold off everything and is now has the balls to criticise Labour for buying back rail !The basics are the most important thing in life and 3pedals has hit the nail on the head is you ask me.
