I feel like there should be a pinned post somewhere, top 10 BMW you want to buy but shouldn't. -
And it's red, so super fast. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=946750210

2001 E39 540i Motorsport Auto Transmission thump.
LemonHunter replied to LemonHunter's topic in Maintenance
I sort of figured about 6 to 7k for a manual conversion? I think I could probably sell this one for 7.5 to 8k, and Manual E39 540's go for around 14 to 15k, M5's of course, if you can find them run from 27K +, so unless my cost estimate is miles out, it is financially viable to convert rather than trade up. That said if anyone has an E39 M5 for 20K, call me. And yeah, if the engine has to come out to swap the box I'd do the guides, otherwise I might wait another 30,000km, it only has 190,000km on the clock, and I love russian roulette. I might stop beasting it around the port hills though till I find out whats up with the box, any useful tests to determine if the Torque converter is on the way out? Would a transmission flush buy me some time? -

This seems like a transmission jack might be needed also. -
I've done a quick search and can't seem to find this dealt with, but i could be searching shitty terms or just not delving far enough back... anywho. Few nights ago i felt a distinct thump as it shifted in to 5th, never repeated untill this morning it did the same thing as it shifted to 2nd. Wasn't thrashing it either of these times. Related maybe is that somtimes just as you get to your chosen cruising speed the revs go up and down a few times like I've seen in cars with a clutch about to die. On a related note, anyone recommend a workshop in chch to do a manual conversion? If this box is about to lunch it self it rather do some preventative maintenance/upgrades, i was getting ready to sell and buy a manual e39 or e34 540, but i don't want to sell if the box is on the way out, so may as well just turn this thing in to the car i want... better the devil you know eh?

Jacked the old girl up One of my swing arm links was fully off and the other probably only still attached due to the other one breaking. Two new ones for NZ $102 landed from FCP Euro. Definitely a better job on a hoist, really hard to get a decent amount of torque on the lower but for both removal and reinsertion.

Mobile version of this site is a little light on information like that. Yeah I'd take that but couldn't pick up till like the 20th sept unless your coming through chch before then?

Where is this stuff? I like the painting.

Affirmative, they are pretty rough on cars though imo, one guy seemed to favor slamming autos in park rather than use foot or park brake, i cringed every time.

Driving down lincoln road in christchurch yesterday, saw this, thinking meh, grey E32 how positively ordinary... wait, that pin striping... it can't be a... HOLY SHUCKING FICK... So yeah, Alpina B12, I had tingles up my spine for about 5 minutes. For anyone not aware of the B12 http://www.alpina-archive.com/?page_id=203 And yerp, not just a rebadge, the real deal https://www.carjam.co.nz/car/?plate=gyy483

Is the engine o/h? Seriously though this is glorious, if i didn't have my heart set on a manual V8 I would snap this up. -
It was in the garage at indycar car sales in chch. That's all i know about it

Chuckys Back with an E39 540.

There are better super chargers, that's why ;-) -
There is one or two E34 535iS on trademe, and an E39 M540 converted to 6spd. I used to have a Purple E34 540iS, i still rue the day I sold that, even if I did make a tidy profit it would be worth even more now
-
I knew a guy that did that, he was covinced his E36 had been repowered with an M3 engine because the motor serial was M25... he'd open the bonnet like it was some great secret, and almost whisper while pointing out the M.... i was like actually bro...

It was late and dark when i picked it up, stand by caller. -
Okay, like two people call me Chuck, and no one calls my Chucky... Anywho, many moons ago I joined this site with a Purple... er.. Techno Violet 1994 540iS. http://bimmersport.co.nz/topic/8947-pics-of-daves-and-my-bimmers/ After that car found a new owner, I drifted away from the site untill recently when I started looking rather seriously at an E39 M5, while that's still the end goal, I'm going to wait for the perfect one, so in the interim I've picked up a 2001 E39 540 Motorsport, should keep me entertained for the medium term, and If I can destroy it's gear box that's a perfect reason to convert it to Manual, and then I may not worry about getting the M5. So howdy to the CHCH Folk, we should get off our arses and have some cruises.

That's the Certificate of Entitlement which isn't actually rego... but it's up to 78k now. If you had an island nation the size of lake taupo with the population of new zealand, you'd want to make sure that people REALLY want a car first ;-) http://m.sgcarmart.com/articles/articleinfo.php?CT=a&AID=171
