  1. I got the European middle insert for my E36 from a local private Chch dismantler for $50....... They are about.
  2. Got a pair from a M52 B25 - in steel. Any good?
  3. HB Brian! We could do with someone with your effervescent social event skills in Christchurch!
  4. Fantastic clip! Fair took me back to the good old days! That's how motor racing should be done! Thanks for sharing!
  5. Happy Birthday! I enjoy your knowledgeable efforts to assist others, have learnt heaps!

    Free Beer

Thought "WTF" when I saw this originally, and was also "rejected". The $5 note turned up a couple of days ago..............
  7. Have 3 bikes: 1927 Triumph Model N 500cc, 1954 Triumph 6T Thunderbird, and 1969 Triumph Bonneville. Oh, just about forgot the 1957 Puch 50 Deluxe (for a bit of moped fun.) The Thunderbird is on it's way to Australia so I (and 14 other like minded individuals) can spend 3 weeks touring and taking part in vintage motorcycle rallies in South Australia next month.....
  8. Mine was $550. Got a WOF OK, but had to weld up a couple of holes in the mufflers, and straighten the footpegs. Removing the spider's cobwebs from the inside of the switches worked a treat... But she goes well!
  9. Where did you get this from? I got one of these Honda CD250U's so my son could get his licence - found it at the VCC Canterbury swap meet last year. They are somewhat uncommon in NZ - being only made originally for the UK market (with MPH speedo) or Australian market (with KPH speedo). Sounds like I was luckier than you, mine had live plates when I got it!
  10. There was a thread started by Sammcj on June 21 2010 with title "DIY Reprogram ECU After Auto to Manual Conversion - Success!!" (not sure how to imbed the link). In this he described getting the idle to be about 600 rpm instead of the auto 750 or so, plus the slight engine rev's pick-up during gear changes was eliminated. Yours is a 1996 E36 323, Sammcj was a 1996 E36 328 - so not that much different, I am picking. One of these days I am probably going to do an auto -> manual conversion so I printed the thread out, and it certainly looks as though it will work! Might be worth you having a look at this!
  11. I am for this. I have two lads who thought they were bullet proof - but (thank god!! ) they never came to grief. If it is not their own stupid behaviour that catches them out it is the other drunken idiot. Wrong place at the wrong time is a sad way to go!
  12. If your car is ex Japan it will almost certainly have the A5S300J - J = JATCO - as made by the Japanese Automatic Transmission Company. The square profile and flat base of your photo tends to confirm that as well. Good luck in filling it, you need to google how to do it. You will find that you will need to run the car on a hoist so oil is pumped through all parts of the transmission, and it has to be topped up as you go. I seem to recall reading something about the oil temperature has to be just right as well, but I could be wrong on this count. Taking the sump right off and cleaning the strainer is often done at the same time as changing the ATF. There are some jobs that are best left to the experts, and I fear this may be just one of those......
  13. Welcome! The "ashtray" thingee isn't for putting coins in for the toll road, parking, whatever, is it?

    Which DSLR?

I have a Nikon D200 - a little different to the one you are looking at - but would still recommend you go for the Nikon. If you are a real noob at photography, you will want to upgrade at some point and in my view the Nikon has a better pettigree for the future.........
  15. We have all been listening to the financial news this week, and noted the "record" high's of the NZ$ against the US$. The price of imported goods will drop as a result! When is the price of petrol going to come down?? We see the oil companies raising prices SO FAST when the NZ$ drops, but how SLOW!!!!!!!! are they to reduce??? Sucker motorists again!! Not a word from the government as lower prices means lower excise taxes and GST!!
  16. The pliers are sometimes known as slip-jaw pliers, or waterpump pliers. the plastic thingy to the left/bottom is to remove the plastic dummy nut that slips onto the lock stud for the wheels. The bar inside the spark plug tool is a tommy bar - slips in the holes at the top as a handle to turn the spark plug socket.
  17. Thanks very much, Glenn, appreciate the thought!
  18. Aceomatics in Stanmore Road are good on auto transmissions! They also have a branch in Clarence St, Addington (near Lincoln Road). Have had a couple of jobs done by the Stanmore Road shop and they were quite ok! They are approved for warranty work.
  19. Hasn't got something stupid like Runflat tyres on it, has it?? They are terrible for tram lining!!
  20. Vetterskog.se - in the bottom RH corner - is photographer in Sweden who specialises in taking photos of (amongst other things) vehicles etc, and they are available on the net. His site is www.vetterskog.se. Pretty sure cars in Sweden are LH drive, too - just like this one! Guess where this photo came from?????????
  21. I think that......... he (Sam) just "Jizzed in his Pants"...........
  22. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/C...n-375013677.htm is selling engine & transmission for '97 320i - and I can see by the photo it is a JATCO transmission. Why not contact him to see if you can get the TCU? That's how I got mine; looked for someone selling the auto transmission & asked about the TCU.
  23. Tuesday evening (3rd) and all of this was in a heap of stuff on a table, along with a bright idea. Cripes, Brent! Fast work!! Well done! Will be keeping an eye on this thread!
  24. Put the last 7 digits of the vehicle VIN into http://www.realoem.com/bmw/select.do, and that will tell you the build date in month/year. All components are marked with the last 7 digits as well, so all are matched to the vehicle. Even the roof lining in my car has been marked this way!! Yes, the TCU must be from another car with a JATCO box fitted. To tell the age of a TCU you may be looking at, run the vehicle VIN that is on the TCU through the above, and it will tell you the build date and the vehicle it came from.
  25. Welcome! Low k's as well, a bonus! A little trick to fix the Jatco Jerk... I have a '96 323i (01-96 build) coupe as well, and I fixed a similar "mis-performance" by throwing the original TCU away and installing one out of a (build date 04-97) '97 320i. This has the later EPROM that was devised post October '96, and once the transmission was reset, have had no issues since! The later TCU is much better than the earlier - but if your car is post Oct '96 build date it should already have it..........
