  1. You'll probably need to use sticky track tyres now! ?

    Quick rant thread.

Try BNT for oil filters, I was pleasantly surprised 12 months or so ago.
  3. Yes, it does sound happy although it did run a little quieter with 10w-60. These engines aren't the quietest around but mine used to sound terrible before the VANOS rebuild, now it just sounds like a 90's engine.
  4. Yep, that should skool the haters! Props bro and best wishes for your future adventures.
  5. Going legit... after ~15 years of being a rebel.
  6. 5w-40 as specified by BMW when the car was new, 10w-60 has never been officially recommended for the S50 by BMW (unlike the S54). If you thrash it or track it some prefer to use 10w-60 but if your oil temps never get above ~110*C (on 5w-40) you're wasting money and horsepower by using 10w-60. During street use my car runs ~5*C cooler using 5w-40 than it does when using 10w-60, that's a clear indication it's not working as hard which is a good thing.
  7. Most people wouldn't know that you can't get a warrant if you need a cert and to be honest I wouldn't expect them to even know if they needed a cert, it's a reasonably fringe activity. If you sell a car that can't get a warrant then my view is it needs to be sold "as is, where is" with the registration on hold and the buyer informed why this is the case. I reckon it would just be easier to pay the $500-$600 for the cert and if necessary bump up the price of the car. In my opinion to do anything less is a bit irresponsible.
  8. It should be illegal to sell a registered car that needs a cert, without a cert.

    Land Yacht

Nice one. Maybe consider swapping the seat base cushions from L<->R to even out the wear (and stop it getting worse on the driver's side).
  10. Estoril Blue over Lotus White w/contrast (black seat plastics), BMW Individual, apparently the only coupe in the world with the combo. ?
  11. What's all the silver stuff on the filter? I'd be more interested in that than caked oil. Flushing isn't cleaning but it is a worthwhile exercise you just need 12 litres of inexpensive full synth oil and a couple of cheap filters (optional really). New filter, fill, run to 25% temp, drain. New filter, fill, run to 50% temp, drain. New long term filter, new long term oil, all good. That'll properly flush any contaminates that aren't baked on. I wouldn't use an additive, all modern oils have cleaning agents.

    Quick rant thread.

I recently ordered $1000 worth from FCP and whilst I split it into sub-400 dollar lots (including shipping) and ordered over several days some items still arrived in country on the same day, even delivered to me in the same van, and I wasn't pinged. As it turns out, for that $1000 I ended up paying $120 more for shipping but saved over $500 in duty, taxes and administration fees. The new rules will mean I'll pay $120 less for shipping and about $200 more for duty and taxes, a net $80 extra, on $1000 worth of goods. The goods, if purchased from BMW NZ would have cost me $2286. No chance I'm going to start buying locally, it's just a tax grab by the Government, it's not going to help local companies at all.
  13. Ha, I came to post that Brad's post (since deleted) is a perfect example of why you should never load all pics into one post on a forum... for those who missed it the entire OP of this thread was quoted. ??? Hint, hint Mark. ? And because of the rubbish forum software we use that sends every damn picture in a notification meant that one post resulted in a 12MB download to my mobile. ?

And on top of the quality of the installer is the quality of the glass they have access to. I had glass replaced 3 times, the final time by (what was then) Team McMillan BMW, in my M3 in around 2005 ish. Neither of the first two (alternative market) screens sealed perfectly and one was even installed crooked ffs. State insurance eventually gave in and paid the full cost at BMW, the result has lasted nearly 15 years.
  15. And completed last weekend, brand new OE Sachs front shocks with assistance and good company graciously provided by @BatMansWilly. The shocks are M3 ones to match the rest of the suspension. So suspension summary: M3 F+R Sachs Shocks (brand new) M3 Springs F+R M3 Sway bars F+R M3 Sway bar bushings F+R (brand new) M3 Drop links F+R (brand new) M3 Top mounts F+R (brand new) Tower reinforcements F+R (brand new) All mounting hardware and accessories (brand new & HT as required) And still no driving... the alignment's a bit crap... ???
  16. lol - because they don't want to have to spend $5000 on sh*t that goes wrong in the next 24 months. I must say it's a sharp price, perhaps a little too sharp in today's market, I'd want to look at it very, very closely. On the other hand the seller may just need a quick cash sale and it all could be kosher. VANOS and subframe are obvious considerations. It would make a better daily than my M3 that's for sure... and it would be more fun than an auto 130... hmm... (NO David, NO!).
  17. Hmm, all things considered, did you blow on the pie?
  18. I heard they will kill you in an instant if your right foot outweighs your skill.
  19. You should remind everyone that the spoiler is factory and you have aluminium doors... ?
  20. Didn't know those repair brackets existed, good to know.
  21. New front OE (Sachs) M3 shocks went into the 328 today thanks to the assistance from Conor (@BatMansWilly) - yes my driveway is a BMW enthusiasts' turnstile, there often 3 or more parked up in various states of repair. Now that was much easier than the wheel hubs lol. So warrant and alignment and she's back on the road, and fresher than before. I might not be able to give her up so quickly now!
  22. Many do actually, that's nothing to be particularly concerned about. Any branding on the muffler or exhaust tips?
