  1. If you don't mind my I suggest the following get yourself a note book, pen, quiet place, thinking cap on. Then write down what it is you are after i.e daily, weekend car, sedan coupe, trans, colour, k's, nav gps price range and any other items you want. Then start looking in the market place, private sales, dealers, trade and exchange, trademe and the like's. Once you have some cars sorted (take your note book) were possible go and have a look over them and take it for a drive this will give you a feel for the vehicle a bit hard to explain but you will just know.Take notes on the vehicles viewed things that you liked and didn't, possible bargaining chip later on. Don't be in a hurry take your time get to see as many vehicles as you can this will give you a better feel for what is out their in the market place. Then if one shows out against the rest get a Pre- Purchase inspection done on it. If this shows up all good then you need to decide if you want to go to the next stage and haggle with the owner over the price. As AllanW said leave some coin in the bank because their will be maintenance bills no matter what. Don't mean to insult you in any way but so many time this situation shows up. To compare the 540 vs 330 lets not go their could even start a riot on here haha happy hunting.

  4. Are you sure Andy looking on realcom they look like they are a push in clip could be wrong maybe Brent could help you out. If not get some low stick green coloured masking tape comes off and does not leave any sticky marks and best of luck

  7. Changing the oil, brake pads etc is regular maintenance only. Ask the guy about the items you have noticed that bug you. The file you put up looks pretty standard it depends on the guy doing the inspection and how hard he wants to look on your behalf. As mentioned get it scanned and it will tell you what has been going on in the electronic's side of the vehicle. If you are that keen ask the owner if it could be taken to Dunedin for a check over at your expense just a thought plus a chance for you to have a drive and get a feel for it.
  8. As others have stated get it checked over by a BMW specialist. It is coming up on 10 years old done 127,000k it is in that area when items will be coming up for close scrutiny. Also do some home work on how many owners has it had since been imported and what has been done by them work wise. As Glenn said it will need more than a disc to get the Nav working should it be a disc then it most likely will be a Mk111 or Mk 1V system. To get it to work you will need to replace the nav comptuer and have some wires run but I'm sure Hotwire would be able to confirm that for you. Best of luck with it.

  13. Arrr technology what a wonderful fickle thing of the modern age. What happens to you and society when it fails in one shape or another?. As Glenn said it empty's your pocket for one makes you reliant upon it in varying degrees in another so what happens if it is removed/ fails would you know how to cope. An extreme view maybe lets slim it down a bit then how good is the average driver these days to control a car in a slid without the abs, asc, dsc any other symbols you want to throw in. What feel does the driver have from the vehicle these days to tell him what is happening really where the tyres meet the road, how the engine is running and sounds etc. How many of you could put down/ turn off your cellphone or MP3 players and not get withdrawal symptoms. How self reliant are we as people, families a nation for that matter on items that rule our lives and we are not even aware they do it at varying degrees.
  14. Wish you all the best and happy trouble free motoring. Hope the blind trust works out for you Maybe nit picking but he swears its sound all over had to replace the radiator expansion tank as it had a shitty patch job on the inlet???.
  15. Yes one has to wonder why leave the tow hook in. Turners have this as traveled 36,180 k's car jam at 107,000 est what does the speedo say?. It was assembled in 2003 /09 rego 2004 it still makes it a 10 year old car or so with some ? marks around it present condition. Could be like the box of chocolates syndrome.
  16. Could you tell me what the specs are on the wheels please.
  17. The car sales man gave me this Vin No WBABX92030PN92150 assembled in August 2005.
  18. That looks nice you must like cleaning things? buurrrrmmm slllurrrppp haha economy not a concern but power is :
  19. I believe that September is the cut off month that BMW uses for it's changes to models etc. So if a car was produced in September say and takes 5 or 6 month to get shipped to Japan or NZ then has to wait for a buyer before being registered 8, 9 months could go by no trouble. That is why it is always wise to check the vin number to see when it was assembled and then rego'd.
  20. If that is the case check to see if they have power to them then( the non working lights) if they do just run another wire as a temporary earth from the lights and see if they work. If they work then you know the earth is your problem and just run another earth wire.
  21. You are correct their is a plastic box above the main fuse board which they are housed in again the connectors are a joining point for cables of the same colour. Have you got a circuit diagram of what you are looking for if not try here http://www.bmw-planet.com/diagrams/release/en/. Also you are in the general area more into the passenger/ drivers well but I'm sure the two I found in this area were earth bars only. To get to them you will have to remove the centre console completely and then you may find it tight to get at them.
  22. What sort of K's did it have colour transmission type etc. Could be interested as I have a N42 motor complete sitting in my garage.
  23. This is what Greg was referring to I believe. body attachment type left one they are a collection point for earth wires the fatter wire goes off to another earth block point which is connected to the body as shown in the first photo. They can also be used for connecting a number of wires together on common circuits.
  24. Hello Their are a couple of connectors in that area they connect up earth wires from memory. If your car is RHD then they will be in the drivers side between the gearbox tunnel and the carpet. As Andy said I think if you remove the centre console and a few other storage bits from that area you should be able to reach the connectors. What are you trying to do?
  25. Try these http://www.ebay.com/sch/Car-Truck-Parts-/6...=p2050890.m1602 http://www.eurokoncepts.com/Aluminum-M3-SM...dles-_p_27.html
