  1. I never get the Honda hating. My Civic was awesome (and borderline rice as it came with a CF bonnet and I was too cheap to paint it). 4kg "JDM" wheels too. I will happily go on the record as saying I'd swap my M3 for the current model FD2 Type-R Civic sedan. Factory rice FTW. Other current factory rice favourites of mine include the Renault Megane and Ford Focus RS. Other than that, I agree with the more tightly defined version of "rice" ---> unsubtle, non-functional modifications.

    Where's the fingers crossed smilie?
  3. Gidday Adam - I might come down and see if the E36 one looks like it will fit an M3, if you've still got them in stock.

    The bastard child.

I am pretty sure both Wilwood and Tilton have equations etc on their websites somewhere. I suspect nothing beats experience though - find someone with the same calipers and see what they did.

Its not hard to get a good unassisted pedal pressure with the right master cylinders as long as the brakes are uprated diameter as well (more leverage). I've driven an E36 M3 up and down the road with a dual overslung (through the bulkhead) master cylinders and Evo VI (I think) 6 pot Brembos and the pedal felt pretty good, and I'm sure it would feel great when used in panic, err, I mean anger.
  6. Yeah - what John says - it's half-assed. I reckon that any additive that stops the oil leaking out has a reasonable chance of not being good for your oiling system, which consists of a pump made to very fine tolerances pushing oil through various passageways and orifices, many with very fine tolerances.

Awesomenessnessness. What's the plan for dealing with the increase in track (ie covering the wheels)?
  8. Good plan. Don't use "stop leak" in any variety to stop any sort of leak.
  9. That's not that bad - mostly stuff that you should fix over time anyway? LOL at VTNZ missing the tie rod end. It's one of the few things they actually seem to spend time on testing properly...

Awesome job getting it ready in time!
  11. The rule on stainless brake lines at the moment is that the ends need to be crimped or swaged. That means any sort of DIY with assembled fittings is a no-no.
  12. WTF do you do all day Josh doing 25-30k pa around Auckland city! FWIW, I drive my M3 mostly in the city, with maybe 40% motorway or open road, and I don't think it uses any oil. Certainly I've never needed to put in any between services.

Way betterer for your ass too. 4 hours in a race seat sucks.

I so wish I could, but I can't It's the Fiat Club event, yes? They run a good event
  15. - Get the LVV cert, which will test your brakes, and have cert guy tell them the brakes are ok? - Get them to test the brakes through a road test? http://www.ltsa.govt.nz/certifiers/virm-in...ral-08-v3a5.pdf If you get coilovers at Xmas, you'll need a new cert.
  16. I've got some ACS 16x7.5 +25 (ish - whatever E30 fitment is) in need of refinishing (some average white paint, silver lip), and some decent but unmounted Falken tyres approx half worn in 205/45R16 (I think, maybe 205/50). Would want $800 though, so may be out of the price range. <sigh> this is me basically accepting an E30 project is too far away to hang on to a set of wheels "just in case"

That really is kinda cool the way its still pulling at the limiter!
  18. x 3 for you. I did ask my wife. She has said I can't have it. I won't even pretend I get a say in such a decision.
  19. Awesome! Get a dyno asap
  20. Yep, and clean them out to get rid of swarf, from memory. Haven't done it myself, just read what mops did (and links to why). Its somewhere in his giant thread on e30tech (link in his sig).
  21. mops has one - ask him. He rebuilt it before use as they have a reputation.

    The e12 project

Stink. I am watching this project with interest by the way, coz some part of me really likes e12s.
  23. A four speed gearbox? I have one you can have - that way no complaints if you don't like it (its fine). It's in Auckland though, and I don't want to expend any effort to get rid of it.
