M54B30 engine is in the E28 engine bay, but unfortunately the M52 "kinda-tubular" manifolds are too short according to the mechanic. He reckons (aside from paying an exhaust place to fabricate something) the E38 728i (RHD obviously) manifolds would fit or at least give some options. Anyone breaking a 728i?

It claims 17L/100km consumption right now on the dash, but I've seen it higher. This is almost completely low speeds + brisk acceleration around Wellington, so it couldnt get worse as a fuel economy torture test. Driving out of the city, its much lower, maybe like 11L/100KM or something combined. Fun Fact, as an M Car it doesnt even have a Fuel Economy Guage, it has the race like Oil Temp Guage. Its also got a "Track Driving" section in the user manual complete with semi-secret Chequered Flag on dash for actual built in Launch Control! Ive actually never used it, maybe I should test before I sell. Its a super fun car.

Half toying with trading it in, but the trade in offer I got from the place that had the car I wanted was terrible. Two other dealers actually offered competitive valuations but they don't have what I wanted any longer. This is a NZ new, full spec 550hp "M" car.. Auto lights (inc. auto dip) and wipers Rubber bootliner As well as all the normal stuff you would expect like tow bar (removable, with key), black leather interior, air conditioning, cruise control, etc Engine has had the problem parts replaced with revised genuine BMW parts to ensure the same failure does not reoccur prematurely. Full overhaul including: Timing chain and tensioners Oil pump chain Valve stem seals 4 cam sensors 4 VANOS solenoids Water pump Thermostat Associated gaskets and seals Spark plugs Auxiliary water pump and reservoir I've also put 4 new Nexan Performance tires on it, and full alignment; the only really expensive regular service item checked off for the new owner for quote a while! 1 year old, swapped as the springs I used were slightly too short so failed latest WOF "spring captivity" checks. Passed twice before mind you.. B6, so not the hardest type (firmer than stock, similar to the 535i MSport afaik), working really well. Look near new. Can supply new bump stops and have the plastic piston covers too. EDIT: Now sold (was $150 + postage from Wellington (or pickup))

Hey again Karun! On a related note to your swap ideas, I finally settled on an M54B30 swap. Just didnt think the M30 (of any type) was worth the effort. Got close a couple of times on going the M30 route though. Engine and gearbox are at Auto38 now, just awaiting some space for him to start the swap!

Yeah but then could have just got a premade harness and ECU online from a tuner that knows this stuff. I bought a setup from Redline Motorsport in the US. Shipped in 2 weeks, all wires marked and EWS and rear O2s removed from ECU. Plug and Play. http://www.redline-motorsport.com/main/page_e30_adapters.html E21, E28, E30, E36 The LS is obviously a great engine, but its not an interesting swap.

I think that one is priced more correctly than the other (as nice as it is).

Im still not following? Why would a common as muck (in Europe) 330d be worth GBP12k? That and the 520/530d are the most common BMW's (and therefore cars) in Ireland (and presumably UK) and super cheap. https://www.donedeal.ie/cars?words=330d&sort=price asc There are Alpina diesels, which I get might be desirable but the normal ones? My parents sold their much more interesting 535d E61 for like EUR6000 3years ago.

So bit of an odd scenario! Bought these new a year ago from Europe. Put them in my E28, worked fine but got a shake in the front end which turned out to be the upper strut mounts, the bearing came loose on both sides! I had badly buckled (twice repaired..) wheels on it at the time, mechanic thinks that caused the problem. Anyhow my mechanic thought the shocks have sideways play in them so I bought new ones (went for the B8's instead).. but the thing is, these look like new to me. Have no obvious play in the either. I rang the disti here and they can rebuild them (but like $300 a side or something) or could be a good option for a track car or diy rebuild, or just give them a shot. I can send them back to Germany for a warranty replace at my expense, so they have some value to me, but thought Id ask here first. Looking for $100 for both.
