    WTB: E39 520i

Looks like a tidy example with low k's and a good price for an E39! However, it's reasonably low spec: 16 inch alloys, cloth trim etc. If you are leaving it as is, it might be an idea to pay a bit more for an example with leather, and the nicer 17 inch alloys. If you want to lower it and put huge rims on it, then I guess that doesn't matter. As for the issues with the car - Glenn can chime in here if he wants - if you can hear the motor buzzing in the window but the window isn't going down then it may just be that the window has come off it's runners and needs re-seating. Not too sure about the aircon problem, so I won't offer any suspect advice! Also, those headlight lenses will need cleaning eventually... gross-looking and you could also fail a warrant cos your lights won't be at their optimum brightness.
  2. Put a cover on it if you want, but otherwise it should be sweet if it's only for a month.

    Project 325i

Right here it is! Just managed a few quick pics in the garage before the light got bad: New bumper. So sexy! I must say that now it's painted you'd be hard pressed to tell it's a replica. Rear of the car: ACS rear diffuser (Cheers Yuen, looks good eh!) and colour coded number plate light strip. And a crap pic of the M3 mirrors, but once I'd put them on it was well and truly dark outside. So there you have it, the next round of mods done (there's always more)! I'll try and head out on Sunday to get some proper photos. Also, I think a drop is on the cards at some point as the new bumper makes the front look lower than the back. But I want to do it properly, so it won't be for a while.

    Project 325i

So the ACS tip didn't fit, but that's been sold to Kerry (bmpower) for his Mum's E36 touring. (What a nice son!) Car went into the paintshop today for the aforementioned pieces; bumper, mirrors, diffuser and while they're at it I'm having them colour code the black strip above the rear license plate that holds the plate lights/lock mechanism etc. Should look tits! Next big update on Wednesday... keep an eye out!
  9. You thought BMW maintenance was bad.... Then there is Alfa.... a whole 'nother league!!!
  10. Dude, this car is going to be wicked once you've finished I'm sure! Make sure to bring it along to the next Chch meet once it's all back together!
  11. They're E23's, but I thought the guy was selling up, some of the cars didn't have warrants etc. To OP, If you haven't already, get in touch with the BMW Car Club, www.bmwclub.co.nz

    Trans is gone

Too many Reverse to Drive burnouts eh? Jokes... bad luck man, that sucks. Hope it's nothing too major.
  13. Geez man, you need more than just a door! Will your insurance cover it? Shame you didn't get the plate number. Definitely report the incident anyway, you might get on Police 10/7!
  14. I reckon it's the dreaded Jatco gearbox problem! When your car is cold is the change from first to second quite jerky? Does the vibration occur when the car changes into second at around 20-40 km/h? Do these problems become less prominent once the car is up to the proper operating temperature? If so, you have the same problem as me. The "Jatco Jerk". It's common on Jap import cars because they use a different transmission to the german assembled cars. To fix the problem usually requires a gearbox rebuild or replacement. Quite costly. Having said that, unless you start to get "flaring" between gears (where the revs rise before the car engages the next gear) it's more of an annoyance than a huge problem as the gearbox will still continue to work. I now have flaring between second and third. So I'm going to get my gearbox fixed. Thankfully I have a mechanical warranty which covers the drivetrain. However I've heard figures like $2-3k thrown about for approximate replacement/rebuild costs. EDIT: $3k is also the approximate cost of a manual gearbox conversion. So do that instead!
  15. Text at the top of the post tells you....
  16. Read this.... this incredibly lucky dude finds a completely mint but neglected M3 GT2 in some guy's garage in Switzerland. And get this... he also happens to be a professional car detailer! And I thought I was obsessed with keeping my car clean! This guy is my idol! Click here and prepare to drool!
  17. I believe E39 style wheels bolt on to E34's with no modifications. EDIT: See post above mine... I am a douche.
  18. The fuses for the electric windows are found in the main fuse box which is located at the rear of the engine bay on the passenger side. If you take the lid off the fusebox there is a sticker which tells you what each fuse is for. There should also be various spare fuses in case some have blown. The inspection light can be turned off using a small machine which you can buy on Trademe. Or you can try the paperclip trick which is explained in many threads here, do a search for "service lights reset paperclip" or something similar. However, are you sure your car is not in need of an inspection service? Might be a wise idea to have it done if you're not following regular service intervals. As for the warning beep, I'm not too sure what that is... I've never heard of a warning beep system on the transmission of the E36. Someone will be more knowledgeable on this subject though.
  19. Yeah, this car's been on TM for months and months. If the dealer wanted to sell it they should have chucked it on $1 reserve like the other really tidy 316i that was on here a month back, not slap some disgusting wheels on it and hike the price by thousands! It's a mint little car with exceptionally low k's but damn, put it on TM for what it's worth!
  20. Being an owner of an E36 myself... I would like to see more pics of the 323i... The 1 series is still a nice car though! Welcome to the site mate!

    E30 vs. E36

The E36 is a good combination of every day practicality and a superb driving experience when you open the taps. And when you think about it. For about $8000-9000 you pick up a superb 323i/325i/328i that costs the same amount as a 2001 Corolla... and the BMW has more safety equipment, more luxury items, is RWD, faster, better handling, better looking, more solid and gives you a better rep Yes, the maintenance bills are higher but goddamn is it worth it!
  23. Hmm interesting... just had a look on realOEM.com and couldn't find any leather shift boots for auto transmissions, so it must be aftermarket. Looks pretty good though, I've got a spare leather handbrake gaiter lying around so I might see if I can jimmy that up to fit!
