  1. Guys are you sure that a lighted E30 key can be gotten for that price from a dealer? In about 2005 or 6 I vaguely remember purchasing from TMBMW a lighted fob plus blank insert and it being at least double that price.
  2. Not BMW anymore but polished the hell out of (2x 3M water-based pro polish followed by Mothers pure carnauba) my car and she is looking rather incredible. Took hours and hours!
  3. I posted up months ago when I saw this down at the marina... security were telling people it was an insurance advert but clearly had what was to be the new X5
  4. Cheap enough from BMW from memory
  5. I had the GM 4 speed in my 1998 1.9L E46 318i sedan. As soon as I purchased the car I had the tranny flushed and it shifted like new, at 150km. The only grip I can muster is that when going up a steeper hill or when overtaking, the kickdown to what I imagine was second gear, was more sluggish than letting it change down to 3rd instead. I suppose that is to say that the torque and power curves were badly matched to the gear ratios. Incredible economy, however.

    Solve my mystery?

Tough problem! Sounds like the sort that I usually have to deal with, usually cold starting related. When I had a problem once which was coolant temp sensor related, there was no time lapse involved, it was simply starting lean and I had to keep some pedal on until i was up and running. As an indication of how time lapse and temp affect parts, I had starter solenoid probs on my 318iS. It would engage first time in the morning, yet had enough heat for thermal expansion(day time maybe 20 degrees) after work that something was binding/sticking and it would not start. As suggested, resistance test the cold start coolant sensor through the range. Make sure it is the temp sensor which affects fuel trim.
  7. 'MIIIII' E34 3.8 M5 at Paul Matthews lights this arvo. A good amount of dirt on it too!
  8. Wicked car. Suggesting that this car needs money spent on it is a little frivolous; at 145km I imagine it is in excellent condition as the advert states. Not much point in forking out right now to renew paint, trim etc when the 8% wear that items may have is patina that a car will always attain, not detrimental wear. Unless it is to go in a museum, spending 10 or 20k would be money down the drain when spent on a sound, driven car.
  9. New one in thank you Qualitat, and car is running with needle at perfect temp, and heater sensor reading 87- 88 degrees Happy camper.
  10. Interesting to know as yes it has the double spring. Stamped wahler w. Germany yet the car isn't old enough to know the Berlin wall!
  11. Cheers for that, managed to get hold of a 'stat from Qualitat for 38 plus 4 for o-ring (1/3 or prices elsewhere) so will pop that in tomorrow. Nothing else will hypercool a motor so far as I can see!
  12. My audi runs an 87 degree thermostat which is visually in good condition, with hot/ cold water both opens well and shuts tightly, respectively. But I wonder, can an old 'stat come out of calibration? It is not a cheap item in this car to replace. When running, the engine is hot hot (turbo). --The ECU takes fuel trim temp off a sensor on the block, and the engine runs well no rich exhaust smell. --The temp gauge needle, which reads from a 'multi function sensor on coolant line under manifold, in traffic runs at 87 degrees, but will lower when cruising at 100kmh. --Climate control heater water temp sensor which reads from coolant near heater core (hidden function) reads similar if a little lower than needle, but rises and lowers proportionately to gauge needle. I have already had the 'stat out, thus am not immediately keen to remove it again and check function with a thermometer. Yet. Does anyone have educated/ experienced suggestions or advice for me? Cheers guys Nathan
  13. Sold it to first test driver. Continued polishing my...... Audi
  14. They all do it I am sure, unless perhaps classic cover or the like. Get it revalued each year, can generally be any car yard/dealer
  15. Pretty good cars, parts a bit harder to find than an older bmw. No rust which is a bonus. Transmission is what I would focus on, whether manual or auto make sure it changes nicely
  16. Blue E46 M3 with dark wheels on bridge this eve, also at same time a flat grey ish coloured E46 sedan

    E21 M323i

The kit looks like one that has been copied and had the edges rounded off too smoothly to be that old, as do the side skirts. But note I say 'looks'. Perhaps just a thick coat of extra shiny paint makes it look how it does, or the shitty wheels.
  18. Prices are now in the reach of the kinds of unintelligent show offs who thrash them and eventually crash spectacularly perhaps.
  19. Humor is marginal in these I reckon, pretty trivial. Its not really such a nice thing when you're at the receiving end of 'bloody Maori' 'Asian' or 'gay' slurs etc. Whether lighthearted intent or not, the fundamentals can come across as pretty cutting
  20. Bad luck. Take it apart and look at whats broken? Seems sensible.

    X5 Ute

Looks silly but would be really useful for someone who wants to cart something every now and then and the rest of the time wants a quick car
  22. I have an E46 one if you are in auckland
  23. I know the owner of this car, he is a good guy and a good auto electrician so you can be sure that it won't have any gremlins of that sort. It is looked after, and not his daily driver.
  24. White 1M in QUBE apartments down by Vector, next to a pretty proper looking mugen-esque late model red Honda Civic sedan
