No pic on trade me. Do you have a pic?
-
Thanks Julz, bit pricey for what you getting tho. But may keep an eye on it. Like I have 4 doors, bonnet, boot, fenders and bumpers all of an M5, just need the rest of the car

You still have these?

Looking for a physically damaged E39, but needs to be mechanically sound and running if anyone has one lying around :-)
-
Is this the plan?

Came home to find this parked outside my place, pretty sweet I think

Looking good man! don't worry too much about the progress. Rather spend a long time doing a small amount then a long time fixing and redoing a large amount. Ive spent 2 weeks on detailing the left rear section on the ute :-)

[Q] Replacement/Upgrade for e39 530i
francoisv replied to m2geek's topic in Audio & In Car Entertainment
This is true. I did an AUX install last week for my cousin in his 2001 528i, mind you it only had the single din tap deck. But im pretty sure it would be similar. I followed this page, http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=356827 but have a look at these, i use them all the time. Yours might be the one on the right Now if you have an iphone, you can get the docking stations off trade me for around $15 and 99% of them fit into the center ashtray if you remove it. -
[Q] Replacement/Upgrade for e39 530i
francoisv replied to m2geek's topic in Audio & In Car Entertainment
With respect due to other forum members, its your car, if you want to add an aftermarket stereo system, then do it. You are the one that will be driving it :-) There are several members on the forum who are clued up when it come to the electrics and what not and im sure they would be more then willing to provide some advise when asked. Then again, as Grant has mentioned, you can replace the Jap units with Euro spec ones etc and there are some fancy add-on devices for iPod or Aux you can do. So really it is up to what you want to do. Ive personally gone for a dynavin that i absolutely love. There are some replicas on trade me for a good price. -

Hamilton Audio help and recommendations
francoisv replied to hunter's topic in Audio & In Car Entertainment
SoundStream or Kicker I have found to be best in a BMW especially with the decent sound deadening. I ran the Tarantula series in my E46 and E39s with cross overs. As for the installation, as per above, Trends seem to have a good name... -
E39 4:3 Aftermarket stereo swap
francoisv replied to zache30's topic in Audio & In Car Entertainment
I used the factory amp in stereo rather then mono, wasn't too bad. But you might have some problems trying to wire up the single din plug to the double din 2 smaller plugs. as the wiring for the 4:3 runs to the gear rather then then the actual front unit. Ive got some wiring diagrams on what I did for my ute. Upgraded from the 4:3 business unit to an aftermarket touch screen. Might save you a few hours of head scratching for power iBus speakers etc... -
I still have a few parts left if anyone is after some. Going to be stripping the doors down to use the sheet metal next weekend, so will have the windows, regulators etc....

I have these, that I have been testing with my iPad3 and iPhone6. Seems to be okay, haven't tested it in that depth but it connects and you can do some pretty cool diagnostics. http://www.uobd2.net/wholesale/iobd2-wifi-bmw-diagnostic-tool-for-iphone-ipad-with-multi-language.html

How are you finding glassing over the metal pieces?

Not much of an update, been busy with family holidays and what not. But managed to start on the rear window sails and complete rear door delete. I guess its all the hard stuff to do now, detailing everything to make an even flow from front to rear and also ensuring that the left and right side are as close match as possible. Using primer brings out all the imperfections in the body filler, so still some work to do yet :-) Ive also decided to not do a wide body, as it will more then likely kill the look. Also trying to decide on 'blind spot' windows, I wont even be able to see through them, so if I do the windows, it will be more for looks then anything else.

Nice work man. I can appreciate the DIY work you're putting into this. Will be looking forward to the end result

Tailgate light delete completed. Designed and tested the tailgate lock using 2 universal central locks running through a On/Off switch. Works a charm. Now to weld get all the wiring tidied up for the lock, reverse camera and reverse lights

Finishing up the inner tail lights delete. Hoping to have the tailgate finished tomorrow with the reverse camera and the new locking system. Plan on using 2 central locking locks triggered by a momentary switch to unlock the tailgate. The switch will be fabricated to the rear BMW badge. Currently working out the electrics but should have it installed tomorrow
