  1. I've had use of the sliding deck towie recently, I had to specify one when I rang them since my car wasn't moveable I think if I had to be towed it would HAVE to be by one of those sliding deck trucks again, being towed like htat pic above is just embarassing

What do you mean beer included, you give me the beer, there's nothing more simple than that. And it has to be a cold, wet, tasty one, not to keen on warm wet ones I'll even throw in a knob if you want, stock E30 gearstick knob...

Gus Oversteer in E30's can take you by surprise and I like the description "snappy oversteer". Going uphill in the wet I said to my mrs. "it would be so easy to lose it here, all you'd have to do was turn too tight and hit the gas too early" then somehow subconciously I did exactly what I was talking about and the back came right around - even with full steering lock into it - once you start 4 wheel sliding that's it. The main problem was crap tyres - barum. I like oversteer, normally you can control it and it's alot of fun, understeer on the other hand is unnerving. Once you drill it into yourself to not turn in harder it becomes easy to handle, except, in the heat of the moment it's not natural to head straight!
  4. Ahhhh, after having mine all fixed up last week Im thumping around all over the place now......14.6 mpg is the result Isn't 14.6 mpg really good for your whale? Damn car is thirstier than you Hey, there's an extra fuel tank on TradeMe at the mo should you need one...
  5. CaM, some performance mods do actually increase the engine efficiency which in turn increases the fuel efficiency. The down side is most of these also lead to heavy pedal usage and terribgle economy!!! Hahaha, anyway, listen to me dispense some useless advice which may or may not help stick in a more economic diff, will lose acceleration but you'll save on fuel do a manual conversion to get better economy as we all know older auto boxes suck the gas look at changing your intake and exhaust setup, remove any catalytic converters you may have advance your timing to get more efficiency from your fuel, a bit impossible though without a new chip
  6. That ain't going to do much for me, headers or programable ECU with current system otherwise a 2.5 or 2.7 conversion. But for a stocker: Replace exhaust manifold with some good headers $1000 Replace exhaust system < $600 Replace air filter with K&N < $150 Use the rest to fill car up with 98 Octane $250 - a months supply
  7. Replacing the whole hub assembly is necessary if it's worn out because, as Glenn said, the hub itself contains the outer race of the bearing. My bearing is worn out so am assuming that I have to replace the the whole thing. The bearing in question is only 4 years old but almost failed warrant last time except I just greased it up a little.
  8. Mike is down there, aparently he's very much into the drinking and making a fool of himself so you won't be short on finding some entertainment down there
  9. hahaha, dribble Don't put too much faith in people BMW in München make BMW's and know everything. People who work for BMW centres in NZ may not know jack about them. Parts people are the only ones I talk to when I ring up but even then there's some very valuable information you can get off the internet which the BMW person won't know.
  10. I figured as muchTim, ebay, WTF???
  11. Glenn, do you replace the whole hub assembly or just the bearing itself? PartsPlus quoted me $258 for the bearing (complete hub assembly), however, Shelley's stock them for $180 so that's not much of a saving is it

    Bmw 318is mods

Nice call Cain Seriously though, 300hp from a NA 2.5...that's tits
  13. Warrant time again and my front wheel bearings have given me grief again. Apart from OEM, can I get some decent bearings cheaper elsewhere??? Saeko??? Otherwise, being front bearings do I have to get myself shafted by BMW...
  14. Forgot about this thread... My g/f backed her car into a Ford pickup a few months back. Her car was relatively unscathed, however, the Ford was messed up. The entire front right panel was crumpled. My g/f's insurance had lapsed since she had to do something. I said budget at least $1k and she spat the dummy at me, she honestly thought it was a $500 max fix. Ended up costing her $1500. $400 for a new panel and the rest in labour, parts, and paint. Anyway, after if happened I had to ring my AMPG insurance working friend to see what we should do. She basically said that if they have insurance then you just let their insurance company handle it as they will have arrangements with repairers. If they don't have insurance then it can get messy. Here's what she said: Take pictures of the damage to the other vehicle. If they have insurance then their insurance company will get in touch with you. Let their insurance company handle everything but make sure you see a copy of the report and check that it matches the damages she did before making arrangements to pay it. If they don't have insurance then they cannot repair the car without consulting you first. If they fix the car without consultation then you have grounds to refuse payout. Don't pay anything without seeing the repair report and again check that it matches the damage she caused.
  15. It's the same tow truck company!!!It's not hard to work out

    Steering Wheel

Martyn, I have a stock steering rudder just sitting in my garage you can have, no postage necessary, just one beer
  17. Oil flow through the oil cooler on a 325 is thermostatically controlled (the valve is the thing under the oil filter where the pipes go off to the oil cooler) but a small amount of oil does go through even when the car is cold. Stupid EPC, it says nothing about it being a thermostat although i'm not surprised, I need a Bentleys.Does anyone actually have a spare mount - I need a new one, unless someone has a spare.

    e36 Break Upgrade

I'd assume it's because the brembos Glenn has are 4 pots and have far superior stopping power, not exactly the best bang for your buck like the E46 ones Shame it's not that easy to upgrade the E30 brakes.
  19. Andy/Gus, what's the story come WOF time, do you guys do a Tim and remove all illegal items such as the plates in order to get the WOF or do they not check license plate validity??? I just failed a WOF on Saturday, 1 engine mount nut was missing, another competely loose. Also have to replace another wheel bearing!!!

    wheel nut locks

Are you talking about the big nut that holds the wheel nut cover on??? (if you look at my sig below i'm talking about the blue nuts in the dead centre of the alloy) My alloys have those big nuts but since I don't have the nut covers I don't need to take the big nut in order to take off the wheel. I do have a big plastic socket specifically designed for undoing the nut but I don't need it since i'll never need to undo them. If you want my nut socket I could part with it

    cops hate me!!!

Don't get me wrong though, I don't drive like a nanna!!! You just have to pick your moments of exhileration more sensibly You'd also have to admit though that driving in the Auckland region is completely different to anywhere else. In Wellington, for instance, we have alot more access to back roads and the likes where we can be less sensible. You guys up north get the larger motorways where lane changing is probably more prone to inspection by the local law enforcers. I think here they keep a watchful eye on the rolling stops and sustained loss of traction, aye Mike Down in Queenstown and the west coast the feds have to pick on the foreigners for anything they can find such as not wearing seatbelts. All the locals know the fuzz there have ridiculously unreachable quotas so the fuzz have to pick on the outsiders. Not hard considering the deserted straight roads down there, entrapment
  22. No But if you don't believe me take a long hard look at the EPC

    cops hate me!!!

[pimp]It's all about the money.[/pimp] Ever since the introduction of speed cameras the Police have realised the true profits to be made in fining your dumb asses over and over. You either pull your head in and drive, as Cain suggested, courteously and avoid the fuzz or you draw attention to yourself and have the man come down on you, hard. Unfortunately though, until they separate the Police back into the two divisions the respect and admiration that everyone had for the Police will never return and the more victimising crimes such as rape and burglaries will go unsolved. A good tip: Being aware of what's around you is kinda helpful. Knowing that cops are always sitting in a certain location would suggest to me that you shouldn't speed through the area. Using your mirrors while driving you can generally notice big white cars with blue/yellow/orange stickers sitting behind you somewhere on the motorway. Cop cars stick out like whores in a church. Take a leaf, I find more pleasure in doing things overtly correct in front of cops than doing something stupid. If they want to sit behind me waiting for me to make a mistake then they're going to get very tired.
