The Fiat held it's cabin structure fairly well all things considered. But yes...would much prefer to be in the Audi. But there are counter arguments to the conventional large car vs small car beliefs. Fifth gear did a similar test with a Volvo 940i and a smaller Renault Modus. The Megane with it's 5 five rating went right through the Volvo which was a third heavier and much longer. As a result the Megane's passengers would've walked away and the Volvo's would have been critical. Volvo vs Renault Surprisingly pre 2000 BMW 3-series' have never faired well in safety tests, no better equivalent than Toyotas or Hondas! EuroNCAP Site I for one don't really like exceedingly large SUV's because of the hazard they pose to others and themselves, more specifically - bullbar toting school run mobiles ! Especially when a nice station wagon would offer a better ride, just as much space, better safety and better fuel economy for the same price. I don't really think there is a proper solution to this, some people can't afford to run a big car or pay for a super safe super mini.

Mean, 0-100kph in 3 seconds then? Pity they're inbred and have no genetic future.

As per title. Let me or CamB know if you want/need anything.

Great buy! We saw this for sale a while back, were sorely tempted up ended up going for an E46. So much for the money! Also would you possibly sell the E30's facelift front bumper/valence and rear bumper?

I'm not sure what has been done. Will ask. I'm hoping the rotors have been machined. I thought that was common practice. Would unmachined rotors and aftermarket pads cause such noise? Thanks for the help. I would take it to you Glenn, but Botany is a long way from the shore.

We have a PFL E46 328i sedan. A family friend replaced the rear brakes as a favour for dad, but now they're hideously noisy at all speeds. They sound like race brakes basically, kind of a deep squealing. Any pointers to a solution before I start ferreting around in there? I'm guessing there is an anti-squeal shim of some sort that is missing.. I don't have a garage to work in at the moment so it's fairly unpleasant weather to try and figure out what is wrong. So any help would be greatly appreciated before I start. Cheers!

Perhaps that might be factors from mad camber, little sidewall, wrong offset, suspension working too close to it's limits, etc? The E36's I've driven are pretty easy to drive? Which is one more good point of E36's is the stability. But again, it's not exactly special..

Funny you say that...for me the E36 M3's biggest appeal is the fact it looks like any other E36! And apparently they handle a lot better.. But I still wouldn't have a non-M3 E36. Well, you've had one of my E30's in your driveway for the last year Does that count? Heh, the fact that CamB gets some jollies out of driving my basically standard E30 maybe counts toward fun factor? Something I feel E36's lack...remember this is my opinion only (don't want people getting their knickers in a twist). As for the E46 comments, on most weeks I drive a E46 328 M as well as the E30. I don't really think the E46 and the E30 can be compared? The E46 feels like it should be a 5 series to be honest...hugely comfortable, quiet....and heavy. Very heavy. Even though the car hides it's weight well the weight is ever present! $ for $ I don't think you can beat the E46 value though. E30's are becoming pretty expensive. But would definitely take an E30 over E36 any day, be it daily or weekend car. E46 would make a lovely form of transportation. ...But I wouldn't really want a BMW daily...I feel like a bit of a cock driving the E46

Maybe you've got american/german springs so the raised driver side is the passenger side here?
-
What kind of tyres and how much tread? Also what part of the world are you in?
-
Ah that would explain it. Damn...thought my driving like a nana had paid off

Edited. It wasn't aimed at you. Didn't want to come across as Spelling Nazi. I would make a build thread for my piece of poo, but a) I don't exactly have many pictures b ) neither CamB or myself will remember/bother to take pictures when working on it c) it's pretty rangi d) it's ugly.

I was disambiguating (clarifying/trying to understand), courteous and cautious = different meanings. A few of my girlfriend's friends are very courteous drivers letting people through, etc, etc but don't exactly drive cautiously - fiddling with stereo/texting, etc. Courteous drivers are becoming rarer by the day though . Have to wait a wee while before I'm let into traffic from my driveway some mornings! The comments above are about E36 M3's. My car (E30) with LSD needs some provocation to get the tail unstuck in the wet. Has let go once or twice, but it was more tailhappy with the single spinner - let go unexpectedly a few times especially roundabouts . EDIT: Auto. I find it hard to believe that you use more gas at lower constant speeds? Maybe there is a difference in gearing. I was driving a Nissan X-Trail.

HT lead replacement is an upgrade worth the money?
JiB replied to tcbaurpower's topic in Maintenance
Stick to OEM unless you have uprated bits that will require uprating the spark. I think you will see little to no gain with $$$ leads. -
I think that's a lot harder to do than suggested...and would come under the "stupid" category. In Cam's M3 Evo you would struggle to unstick the rear - probably a fistful of lock and WOT needed. I would consider that a stupid thing to do in the wet. Not exactly a AW11. It's courteous. Or do you mean cautious? Either way, good on you. Far too many overly aggressive drivers out there. Cautious driving pays off. Literally. Just back from Ruapehu, did around 100-110kph there and an easy 80-100kph back. Used 15L less petrol on the way home. Both times no traffic, same load, same road. Was shocked myself

+1 And if daily driven I'd leave the interior in. Do all bushes....$$$ but means you can afford to buy an older car with bushes on the way out etc. Definitely budget for LSD. Beware, I did budget for a $5000 racer, have spent much much more. So add a couple of thousand on top on all the miscellaneous stuff that WILL come up.

Might be able to get a alpine > universal adaptor and universal > BMW adaptor from Repco or similar shops.

I need some 15" tyres. Want them as cheap as possible. Don't need them to be flash at all. Would prefer to have a taller than standard tyre rather than go shorter. ie Anything with a larger circumference than 195/65/14 Need four of them. Criteria: -They must be wof-able. -No skinnier than 195 (going on a 7" rim) Preferably a matching set of four.
