  1. ^ +1, just buy a 328. IF you do want to do it, either too 1UZ or M52, Tim a TTT auto can give you an idea on price. Done umpteen lexus v8 conversions to many different cars, email ttt [email protected] <- take out the space.
  2. Cool vid. http://vimeo.com/18873955
  3. You'll want to bolt your engine to the box, and then install the whole lot as one, be a nightmare to to do them seperately. Not sure about the 240 box and linkages, If the angle doenst change there wont be any problem, it'll be evident when you bolt it in anyway, and isnt hard to fix with and angle grinder and mig I cut the link in half, had one end on the stick, other on the box. Got someone in the car on the hoist holding the stick in neutral, had the box in neutral, one brave bugger holding both ends of the link lined up and zapped it with the mig. A couple of other hints before you do it - Ideally stick the engine in with the intake manifold off, the manifold gets VERY close to the heatercore fittings on the firewall, they require minor tweaking to fit. Doing it with the manifold on is no fun. The EASIEST way to wire up the radiator fan is to go pick up a davis craig thermoswitch kit for like $60 (repco supercheap etc), a pusher fan will set ya back $40. The thermoswitch is rated for 20A current, so you dont even need a relay, its just one wire (ideally with a fuse in it). Running the A/C fan setup can be troublesome, I gave up looking for the right fittings to get the BMW factory switches and stuff into, some places wanted stupid money for one of the aftermarket A/C install fittings. I wouldnt bother even looking into it when it only costs $100 to do it with new parts, that you can set exactly what temp you want it to turn on, and very little screwing around with rubbish parts from wreckers. As for a brake booster. 2000 renault clio is the way (you want one from a clio with plastic front gaurds), I found one at the renault/jag wreckers up north, theyre nice modern bosch booster( Unlike most golf etc boosters, which 25 years later are rusted heaps of sh*t), they bolt straight in, the onevalve is built in and even aims right at the fitting on the M50 manifold. Also have MUCH better brake feel than the stock E30 booster. When you go M50 hunting, make sure you get a good one with everything on it, ask for odometer numbers, warranties, compression checks etc. Pull the plastic cover off and have a look at the coils etc, pull the waterpump out and see what sort of condition the coolant was in. If something looks busted, get them to replace it then and there. If they arent willing supply the above, walk away and look elsewhere. Wreckers want way too much money for tired M50's. If your paying ~$1000-1500 for a ~20 year old engine, it had better be a good engine. Learn from my mistakes Dont forget stuff like a new o2 sensor (~600 from BMW nz, can be had MUCH cheaper overseas for the same one) new themostat/waterpump etc. Its a wise idea to put a small bleed hole in the top of the thermostat BTW, makes for MUCH easier bleeding of the coolant.

    The bastard child.

Flintstones power in the boot. This is one shweeeet project, cant wait to see the finsihed result, it looks awesome already!
  10. I think im gonna need to take your E30 for a blat Mate has a 350Z, tiptronic though... need to borrow keys for that too Wonder what it looks like under that plastic crap
  11. Maybe 4 of em, V16.... Im still liking the 350Z engine, E30 335iZ Touring? The 6 speed out of the 350's ratio's look like they would work well E30 diff's too... 3.64 Diff, 6MT box, 7.5k redline, 17/40/235's Tyre Diameter = 1946.17 mm 1st Gear = 63.42 km/h 2nd Gear = 103.53 km/h 3rd Gear = 148.15 km/h 4th Gear = 189.3 km/h 5th Gear = 240.6 km/h 6th Gear = 303.02 km/h AKA, 2500 rpm in 6th at 100kmh..
  12. My bad... Lack of sleep rds From memory I got the stage 2 clutch he was importing, kevlar friction plate and a gruntier LUK pressure plate. Really liked that clutch, Bit really well, felt meaty, but still easy to drive in traffic. good value for money http://www.bimmersport.co.nz/forums/index.php?showuser=4152
  13. I was really happy with the clutch kit I got off RJS on bimmersport, id flick him a PM.
  14. LS1 is an idea.. but I was thinking something a bit more high tech 12A turbo Bo! sick as skids! .... BMW V8 would be nice, but they are pricey even for old engines (hell all wrecked bimmer engines are! Im still bitter about my M50 ) VH41/45 is an option, What do they have going for them over the 1UZ though? Seems to be more difficult with 0 gain, unless im missing something? http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/boats-mari...n-397039557.htm That'd be pretty swish sticking out the bonnet of a touring
  15. Maybe, know how to bolt it up at least! Whats a low k's M54B30 worth? (sub 100,000k, preferably sub 50,000!), be nice to have a bimmer engine. Got a few electric problems to solve, and its down a bit in power and torque compared to the above. Whats an M54 weigh? Id imagine its similar to an M52 (~180kg)?
  16. Thinking about next years project... Done the M50 thing, craps all over M20 e30's, but... I want something using a newer lower k's engine (ie something thats not bordering on needing a rebuild!), probably a jappa due to pricing and availability. Want something NA, light, reliable, available, not rediculously hard to make fit (dont wanna chop firewall for instance) Must be able tobolt up a to a suitable manual box without having to make custom bellhousing etc. ~200kW of usable power would be nice. Whats on the list of possibilities... - Lexus 1uz VVTi Alloy V8 - 216kW, 418Nm. 190kg .Been done a few times, seems relatively pain free. Prices for them are a bit jacked up due to the V8 hilux crowd, but in saying that lots of conversion experience with them about - Nissan VQ35DE/HR All alloy V6. 214kW, 371Nm, 142kg. Should have plenty of poke for an E30, and finding a 6 speed out of a 350Z shouldnt be too hard either. Surprising well priced for low k's examples. Will require aftermarket engine management to run, and a few aftermarket sensors, and a new throttle body.. Nissan VK V8 engine might be an option, the VH's seem a bit long in tooth, but seems a bit big and heavy.. Any other engines I should research a bit more?
  17. The shell, and parts remaining on it, will be going to the scrapyard tommorrow. So if you want anything, go have a looksee tommorrow morning. Payment by beer/whatever you think its worth. PM for details and addy.
  18. Is the kit made entirely out of bog?
  19. Yup, Yup and Yup. Lemme know and Ill get it removed.
  20. Bloody good question! I havent even opened the box. The one on my M50 was a big un (ground down the ribs on the block).. I think synthe sent me a smaller one though. Ill check and get back to ya.
  21. No worries, how long ya thinking?
  22. Bump, save the E30 from the being crushed!
  23. Beautiful red E28, on throwing stars, down onehunga mall this arvo. Looks awesome. Lots of want.
  24. Bump for whats left, with some more price reductions to get it out of the workshop - 85 E30 manual coupe shell Rust in the usual spots (needs new bootlid), paint is fuct (was resprayed by blind monkey in its past), random aftermarket front bumper (BBS?) and rear end. Will not be rolling, No front seats, windscreen, dash & steering wheel, but everything else is there. Electric windows, Electric sunroof. Pretty straight, most trim is still there. Might make a good start for a race car. Rego is live, still has reg and wof Open to all offers, right down to a box of beers!, best tender wins! E30 Pfl bumpers (front and rear), decent nick, chrome will clean up well $80 E30 Tech 1 steering wheel, clean and tidy $150 1 week old battery (yeh...) $100 (Cost $150) E30 M3 loom covers, as new, tweaked to fit M50. $80 Perfect condition tail light, cant remember if its right or left, but its mint! $40 BMW NZ tow bar - $20 E30 6 cylinder starter motor, as bought from synthe 2 weeks or so ago, $30 M20Bxx radiator resevoir, good condtion - $10 2.5" coby resonator, 2.5" turbo style muffler - Both have judder bar scrapes but otherwise sweet $30 each. DTM style twin tip 2.5" rear muffler, few scrapes on under side (not bad though) $50
