the E36 318ti I picked up recently was idling a bit rough, thought it might have been a sensor but I have noticed now the following symptom: when you start the engine the idle is a bit jumpy, when driving it is smooth and not misfiring or anything. If I open the bonnet and turn off the car, straight away there is a very loud and noticeable HISS (for maybe 3 seconds or so) from the passenger side/rear of the engine. Any ideas on which part I am looking for?

Hi guys, I recently picked up an E36 318ti compact to fix up but for some reason it doesn’t seem to have an OBD2 port under the dash despite being a 1998 model. I thought OBD2 was standard for 1996 or newer. Mine has the build date 06/1998, and with the M44 engine. Any ideas? Also, if it doesn’t have it, does anyone have a way to scan this car for codes? The round connector in the engine bay? It has a rough idle so I’m guessing it needs a new sensor or maybe a bad coil pack so a scan would point me in the right direction. thanks!

^ does your red light flash if u press a button? i changed the battery twice and it didn’t flash, went and bought another new battery then it finally flashed. I must have got a bad battery or something. this is important before doing any of the procedures.

This would be an epic replacement for the E53, heck you could probably even sell the E60 M5 and consolidate down to two cars, the F30 335 and this beast SUV.

This worked. legend. just to summarize: open door, get in and close door turn key on and off once (second click just before starting the engine) hold square and press O three times then let go of square point at rear view mirror and press O once doors automatically lock then unlock and its complete thanks guys!

A bit different now with the current market situation. If you are a prospective buyer, their typical answer to "what's your opinion on true market value?" is "the cv is $xxx so somewhere around there". When you press them further and ask for comparative sales they give you random figures for non-comparable houses that are greatly different in room #, sqm size, condition so it doesnt help anyway. I reckon they are basically trying to lure you in with a falsely low representation of what its worth in the hopes that you will go to the auction (make a crowd) and make you fomo bid to reach a higher price or to scare other bidders with higher budgets to push further so they dont miss out. Or they just literally have no idea because market value is just a wild guessing game now. There is no reason for them to indicate any $ amount figure because it could end up literally anywhere. If you are a prospective seller, their typical answer is to overstate the possibility if you take it to auction. Probably to entice you to sign with them and they will just end up selling it for whatever price it reaches on the auction.

agree with that, the side body lines, the wheel/arch fitment, overall its not the best streamlined design tbh.

Ive said it before but I think BMW always comes up with interesting designs that tend to grow on you after a few years. I have no problems with the kidney design tbh.. BUT WTH is that interior colour combo?!?!

Ive got a E36 with the old rubber 2 button fob like this: Battery was dead so replaced it but couldn’t get it programmed to the car to lock/unlock. I used this guide (for the 3 button key) https://bmw-key-replacement.com/bmw-key-programming-free-guide/bmw-remote-key-fob-programming-guide-instructions-for-bmw-rubber-key/ basically what happens after I hold the unlock and press lock 3 times is the red led flashes 10 times then nothing happens. it should lock and unlock the car to signal that it is complete. Any help appreciated.

You should be able to request for a re-valuation. the difference in rates should be negligible and having the correct GV should benefit you more if you decide to sell.

I kind of wish the plate was installed a bit lower... I think the "right" position is the top of the plate should line up with the indentation line on the bumper.
