Or better yet depending on what it fails on, get the wof and flick it off for $1500. Cheap reg/wof cars just arent that cheap anymore, so $1500 would be reasonable IMO.

Gotcha, that spreadsheet is pretty awesome. So over a long period of distance, provided that the diesel is more economical than the petrol, it will work out to be cheaper to run. Time to roll some coal.
-
For those KM though, due to RUC, does it work out much cheaper at all to run a diesel over a modern petrol?
-
Genuine question, why do people wet themselves over old diesels like this? I understand its cheap and its a wagon, but surely a petrol one would be better than an old tractor lump?
-
how do you check that the IMEI isnt blocked?
-
bold, wouldnt buy it myself but itll be a great deal if you can get it road legal without too much effort. Should make a project thread about it. Would be interesting to see if a decent cut and polish would make most of it red again.

I paid about that for my old 523i a year or two back (with 250k odd km on it), so id say thats a pretty good price for a facelift even with the minor work needed. Bet you'll be glad to be able to drive around without that lovely oil smell every time.
-
I think everyone is getting sick of his (mostly) worthless posts.
-
ah thats right, i also had to do the oil filter housing gasket on my e39 at the same time. Looks like a big job, but it really isnt too bad. Should be obvious as there will be oil down the side of the block on the LH side.
-
i would almost bet its the same car. Wonder what they did to it to increase the value to E39 M5 prices?
-
Classified as a hit and run aint it? Think the police frown upon those.
-
Stupid woman should have her license revoked. Thats epic fail right there. Best of luck getting your car fixed, and to a high standard. Lucky there isnt more damage really, looks like a pretty solid hit.
-
Actually, i see you're in wellington too. I could probably copy my virtual machine files for you if you like?

Yeah, its crazy hard to find information for the 3.0. It seems either no one has cracked it and have a half working diagnostic suite like i do, or they did crack it but it was so long ago now that the information is lost. Currently waiting on some parts from Germany for this. Getting a new ZHP 5 speed weighted gear knob, front screen cowl, and all the seals for the vent and rear windows (as they are old and perished like most).
-
Funny you say that, it actually looks a lot like the one that was in one of the later Fast and Furious movies, The E46 M3 vent on the front guards is bit of a give away.

i concur, but at the end of the day we are all out to make money, just some people find less moral ways to do it than others. The original seller has no rights over it, they were gone when he accepted money for the tires in the first place and the new seller can do whatever they like. The only issue here is the story spun in order to procure them for cheaper. Bit of first world problem going on here, and IMO anyone that f**ks with his auction is bit of a c**t. You got your money, move on.

good stuff, that interior is much better than full leather IMO. My old E39 was a 523i, and i concur that although a really nice car it was slower than a wet week really. The 3.0 is a beast compared.
-
its a bit of a shitty thing to do if that was his intention (to make a story up to get them cheaper and then resell them), but IMO until he comes forward he should have the benefit of the doubt; how do we know that he didnt get home to find the tires just wouldnt fit and he needs to go a smaller profile or width? Better he sells them himself then to come back at you to try and get a refund for his mess up, yes?

I miss my old silver Msport E39, such great cars. Is yours leather or the cloth(?) interior? I had to do the valve cover on mine when i got it, was leaking onto the exhaust manifold, made a hell of a stink. Easy to change, access is pretty good. Facelift too, keen for more pictures

Some caps have the numbers moulded into them. Maybe hit it with brake cleaner and see if this one does? Otherwise this might help (i didnt add the arrow, so ignore it unless relevant),

8K GBP = 16K NZD (near enough), so once you factor in compliance, shipping etc..... good point. For 8K GBP though, better options and possibly lower milage? Enough to make it worth it?

Some japanese imports have horrific rust, just look at half the R32 GTRs coming into the country. Sills, and rear guards are like swiss cheese. The difference is in NZ we dont grit with Salt, we grit with, gravel. UK and japan grits with salt. Salt + water = corrosion. For most people importing from overseas is a massive risk, because we dont have friends/family over there that can check it out for us, and have to rely on the seller/agent over there. Thats why people prefer cars already in NZ.
