  2. i agree,my 535is was a very very nice car with all the bits that made it a more desireable car, leather,lsd,etc etc,manual..and even with the bbs wheels i had trouble selling it
  3. thats what they do if the car is a bit hot,the fan locks up until the motor cools down.Thats how they are supposed to work.Someties around town the 535 sounded like a truck,esp somtimes just starting of say in first it sounds like a truck then as you hit second it unlocks.
  4. the e34s 540s had a very very dark wood finish.Almost black.I would have that but i associate wood with Jaguars and Rolls Royces and bentleys.I wouldnt have it.You have a nice job on the cleaning the 540 up.Although the big motors have bigger horsepower numbers its the torque that makes them so much nicer/rewarding to drive.

  8. a jack is only for lifting the car,once its up(unless you just changing a wheels) you should have stands or something under it

    you are all bastards.I keep coming back to one of these.I normally loathe tan interiors but there is something about that one thats is better.Of course the S62 and manual box could well have something to do with it
  10. not sure i f the M5 had different brakes,but could maybe go up in size,the M5 brakes would cost a lot though.Will also depend on the wheels you have
  11. i think you did the right thing in keeping the 528 as cool as you could.You wont have recouped your money but its made it more sellable. What you need to do now is to see if you can drive a 540 six speed before you decide if you want to do a conversion.A 540 series is a heavy car and you will always be aware of that weight when pushing on.It will never be a s flickable as a three series,and the 528 and 530 will be noticeably less nose heavy.In my book though this is easliy counterd by the torque and smoothness of the V8.So you may find the the idea of an auto 540 isnt so bad. 540 6 speeds are out there.Ask around, i bet there are some people that know someone who has one(or knows someone else who has one.

  13. the problem with the brakes on the e39 (or any road car) is just that..its a road car.BMWs have very soft pads to give lots of bite and also i think there is a requirement that even without the engine running the brakes must provide a certain proportion of normal braking.Most road cars would have overheated brakes within a few laps.

  16. once you get a BMW with a reach adjustable wheel you will find you can get the correct driving position.In my 120 i feel perfectly comfy.I am 6 3 with a long body .I prolly have slightly more head room than i did in the 535.Wouldnt work if the 120 hqd a sunroof tho.The whole reason i got into BMW in the first place is they have the most adjustable driving position available in rear wheel drive.You are supposed to be able to rest your wrists on the top of the steering wheel in your normal driving postion.
  17. yes...my pockets wont stretch to that.I think i will be traumatised enough with change in economy as it is.But i have said to myself that i want a V8 at least once in my life!
  18. yes best part of 170,000.I actually want a 530d touring but they are twice the money.
