    RIP Colin McRae

Wasted talent, and all the more shocking as you would never expect someone involved in such a dangerous sport to be killed in such a totally unrelated way. I hope the family is left alone by the press. i can't think of anything worse than not being allowed to grieve in peace. He was over here recently for Rally of NZ. This must have been one of his last rallies???
  2. There's alot of rumour and myth being bandied about Gus. My personal feeling is that most of the problem is that people are running worn 20yo injectors that are all clogged and carbonned. They upgrade the injectors and the car performs better. I have a hunch that most of the time if they replaced them with new stock ones they'd see the same improvement. I'm only speculating based on the research I've done lately on megasquirt and supercharging. You don't need to go much bigger for the s/c, and the flow rate specs of the stock bmw injectors aren't too low for very low boost (just nothing in reserve). Unless you plan on squeezing a fair bit more power out of the motor by doing other mods like stroking or FI, then bigger injectors prob won't help. Replacing your old ones with new ones might though, and if there is no price difference, then there should be nothing wrong with going bigger. just keep in mind that your l/100km gauge may not read correctly with diff injectors.

    M5 style or alpinas

Easy. The motorsport rims are way to modern looking for an e28. the pinnas are good looking, and timeless in their design. They don't look old, but look great on an older car.
  4. They don't. Colour code is on a sticker on the front shock tower (usually passenger side). The SA built cars have a build plate above the drivers headlight and/or a chassis number stamped into the shock tower. Other cars have a chassis number stamped into either the same place or on top of the firewall. The sticker on the drivers side b-pillar that specifies tyre pressure is often accompanied by stickers/stamps with build dates and other info. The VIN is the main source of info.
  5. I've used macs in the recent past and love them, except, nothing less than mac book pro is any good - you miss out on so much. The problem is there isn't a mid-level mac product between a $2-3k mac book and a $5-7k mac book pro. This rules them out in my book and is why I bought a windows based machine a couple of months back. Don't buy a desktop, unless you need the mind-blowing performance advantage, or want to go very cheap, or plan on expanding the machine alot, being tethered to a desk blows. The mobility of the laptop is worth the pitfalls. my 2c.

    Urethane? where from?
  7. Ouch Carl! At 100kph the torque converter is locked (ie solid link, not fluid) so (and I'm surprised it let it change) when the box changed you would've been chewing all holy hell out of the clutches inside the box, not to mention the strain on everything else.

Definitely possible, but you'd smell it if oil was being burnt off.

    Puke racing

That's a good spot to watch from aye. Chris and I were up on the terraces as we were hav'n a few brewskis. i hope alot of you went on Sunday as for all the talk of going along there was almost no-one there on Saturday.
  10. '89 535i is an e34, not e36. But that's not why I'm posting. The autos from those models have removable bellhousing, so if its slightly different you could possibly swap the bellhousings over.

    Diff Bush

That and the two subframe bushes hold the rear end onto the car. So you'd be wise to replace all three. May as well do the trailing arm ones at the same time as they are cheap. Get polyurethane ones from Ireland Engineering www.bmw2002.com. I don't know of any local suppliers of polyurethane bushes for e30's. This is assuming you have correctly diagnosed the problem - not clutch shudder/slip?
  12. Your stock injectors are more than you need for a stock motor. What you need to focus on is getting more airflow and removing the exhaust gases. The computer will compensate by adding the extra fuel needed and the injectors will handle it.
  13. You can modify the gas pedal to be like this. Remove the gaspedal entirely and then just fix a new pedal to the armiture rather than hinged. I've never done it but seen it done.

    E30 LSD 3:64

What sort of condition Ray? Clutches need replacing soon?
  15. You can. The actual shifting will be no different than if you let it change by itself. However, the thing is you will probably hold gears longer and thus shift harder than usual so on that basis it will see your auto lasting all of 5 minutes.
  16. Jock - PM andrew regarding the mpeg. He might do it for you as a favour if you buy him a beer. Don't expect him to do it any time soon - he's always crying thats he's busy.
  17. This is why it annoys me when they want to lower the limit. It would be good to see some stats of how many accidents were caused by a driver that blew under, but registered a reading. And of those, how many where the cause was likely to be the alcohol. This would go a long way to helping or destroying the cause of proponents of lowering the limit. I suggest that either it is impossible to gather such info, or that they know the info wouldn't help the cause. Lock up the recidivists and let those who drink responsibly carry on doing the right thing.

    Ebay LSD's

When I buy car parts I don't expect to have to take them apart and make sure they were assembled correctly.
  19. Carspot - Alex Ten Hove is a forum sponsor. Sounds like it could be a good buy keeping in mind it will be priced relative to condition.

    E30 325I

I was just thinking that when I read your post about wanting to lower it more. Rims would suit a lighter or darker colour better, but loot phat anyway. Nice work.

    I want to weep!

Don't worry about the interior - many of the nicest cars on this forum looked like that at some stage during the build - its normal for an engine swap. But yeah, I noticed the JPS stickers and hoped that they were just "bling".
