Common for the m50 swap guys to do this and use e30 gearboxes - e30 flywheel, clutch and starter. $500 - that's bloody good!
-
Its really big on me. If it doesn't sell I'll bring it down and you can try it. Also have a Macs Beer brewing kit that I'm going to put up on TM soon too. Been used for 2 brews but I'm too lazy seeing as I can walk to the pub and the bottle store in 10 mins. Oh and a 1.5" portable colour TV (hand held runs on 4xAA or power adapter). Reasonable offers.

I think it would take me 15 hours if I had all the parts and did my usual beer-whilst-working trick. I'm pretty slow and have to f**k about with jacks and blocks - no hoist. My generous estimate for a pro with all the tools and skills: Remove interior console and auto shifter, remove auto brake pedal hoist up car, remove exhaust, heat sheilding, driveshaft and auto box: 1-2hrs max. Replace motor mounts (if required), install spigot bearing, flywheel and new clutch: 30 mins. Add 30mins to machine flywheel. Drain oil from manual box and refill, bolt box up. Replace bushes in shifter/install new shift linkage: 1hr. Install clutch fluid reservoir, run clutch line , install slave cylinder and hook up: 30 mins Install master cylinder and manual pedals: 30mins-1hr max. Bleed clutch 15-30mins. Work out and sort wiring to allow car to be started: 30 mins or so. Reinstall interior: 15-30mins. Replace driveshaft hanger bearing, install driveshaft, heat sheilding and exhaust: 1hr. Test car, tidy up, and fix any problems: 1.5hrs. Which gives 9.5 hours plus say add a few for contingency. Say 2 days? But I'm not a mechanic, and I'd get pissed off if someone tried to tell me how long it should take to do my job. Maybe Glenn from Botany Autoworks could comment better. I'm making big assumptions about how well they know e30's, but trying to be generous at the same time. Edit: Typed this whilst the above 3 or so posts were put up, so I guess my numbers aren't too far off.

Prob not 4 days labour, but I can understand if they havn't done an e30 before that they may need the car for 4 days when they run into problems and have to get things sorted out - order a part, have something rebuilt etc.

Haha ollie - the blue sway bar in the front suspension pic...
-
sh*t dude that's some serious kit - talk about up-rated swaybar or what?!!! Very very nice. You do good work.
-
Good cond. Brent lives closer to you and I was after about the same. He's possibly your best bet so far.
-
2 or 4 door? I have a silver rear door for a 4-door. Where are you?
-
For a second there I though tI read mitsi evo lol. jk.

I thought it was cool. If the motor was toast anyway or had little value to them, why not? Personally I think a more fun way would be to put Kerry in it and point him at the nearest paddock.
-
haha they look badass. My mate has a set he bought off me on his mildly modified Starlet. I'll take some pics and post 'em up.

Gag unless its that Henna m3 and the rest of the interior is custom trimmed with accents to match.
-
Just the metal part. Its up to you whether you keep the plastic job or not. I like it without, some like it on.
-
I like them, but they are heavier and their handling and feel isn't as good as e30's IF you want a car to drive. If you want a nice cruiser with european looks and good build quality they are great. These things are used as taxis overseas and do hundreds of thousands of kms no problem. The 2.3 cosworths go well and I would be aimin for one of them. ther eis a really nice looking example for sle in Classic Car for $9k. They go for much cheaper as well.

Alpina because of their attention to detail. Their cars seem most complete and finished. Edit: Oh and for the absoluely best wheel design of all time. Hartage wheel design FTL. ACS pretty tite here aswell esp there Type IV's.

Tidy up the rear end by removing the japanese number plate bracket and mounting the plate directly to the factory mounting holes. My first e30 was a jap 320i auto that I manualed. Great wee car.

Did a Google translate then my translation of the Googlish is: www.300mm.de offers an efficient 312x25mm piston brake assembly for the front axle BMW of the E30 and the Z1 to you. The system is capable of of Plug and Play. ORIGINAL BMW E34 540i brake calipers are used. The kit consists of proven mass production parts. Usually 17 " rims are necessary. Only the HARTGE 16 " and SCHNITZER 16 " rims possess enough space for this brake assembly. No track widening results. The saddle adapters are CNC milled in highest precision from high-strength Vergütungstahl. The adapters are delivered with a description of the materials inclusive mechanical values, as well as the copy of a TÜV entry. They make motor mounts etc for engine swaps and other bits too. Some of its not cheap though, but looks to be very well made.

Scary sh*t dude. Good luck!

Cool. You must be good friends with your bank manager come service time! Welcome. Where are you based. Would love to see that thing in the flesh (or more to the point - rapidly circling the paddock).

Mike: I'm not against jap swaps, but if a m30 is tough regarding fabrication - WTF is a jappa like??!!! I have no BMW brand loyalty in that regard. Whatever I do I want to do it myself. I'm not into signing cheques and watching it happen. Even if it costs me more I'd still rather do it myself. Thanks for the insights. Not putting me off yet...

Unless your remote wire is huge, it should catch fire before it burns through the fuse. Based on general rule of thumb, 35Amp needs 14 guage or more to be safe. 14 guage is 1.6mm diameter. Remote wire is prob less than 1mm diameter. Remote wire usually around 18-16 guage (.5ish - 1mm)

Yeah understand this, hence my tongue-in-cheek comment regarding weight in the boot balancing it out. I'm not into running turbo although one day maybe. That's why I'm looking at bigger displacement options. Drifty is going Lexus v8 (how much does that weigh?), people have done m60's, lots of people have done m30 (including some BMW tuners as reported above), it seems cheaper than m50/m52 for a reknown bullet-proof motor. I'm not set on anything, but Have done the sums and turbo is more power than I need and more money than I have, m50 is a waste of money for small gains, m52/54 harder to source or expensive to buy (3 or more times the cost of an m30 easily), and I don't want to go non-BMW as I don't know enough about it. Would love an m52, but I don't think it has the bang for buck of m30.
