Chris posted it up 2 days ago. Too slow!

Take a look at Orcon aswell. Flying the flag because my g/f works there, but they have some good deals too if your usage habits fit one of their plans. Apparrently slingshots service and support is arse - second only to Woosh. Hearsay of course as I get my internet through Igrin.

Yeah third control is for the remote headlight adjust for when towing. Bet you a beer they don't work though - most don't and it's a right pain to find the fault, refill the fluid and bleed the system to get them going again. -
It's a disco chassis and running gear from memory.

I do mine 6 months 5000km. Use good oil and do a search on here for oil threads - there are a couple debating the various benefits of choosing one type over the other.

Gonna jump in for fun. [FACT] There is no limit on wheel sizing. You only need a cert if the wheels are modified, require spacers, are not a "known, reputable brand" (quoted from the regulations) or would be considered an inappropriate vehicle fitment by the WHEEL manufacturer. So if they list the car as one the wheels fit on then that's covered. Even if they don't doesn't necessarily preclude their use. Also to ensure you don't require a cert you need to ensure that: Either the tyres fit within the standard vehicle panels (ie non-rolled/flared guards) OR if you do have to modify the panels maximum track width increase is 25mm. Total circumference cannot change by more than 5%. So on e30 (what I know) max track width is 220 (195mm +25mm) unless you can keep them within the unmodified guards. So technically all you guys running 225's+ with rolled/flaredguards should have a cert. [/FACT] So that clears up the myth about only being able to go up two sizes. ( I beleive this is the law in Australia and is a common recommendation in any case, so maybe that is the source of confusion). [OPINION] Now on to suspension. BMW's (except M models and the odd other model) are not all-out sports cars. That is the realm of Lotus, MG, Porsche, etc etc. They are either small-mid sized sedans or sport coupes (3 & 6 series) or mid to large size luxury barges (5 & 7 series) with the odd performance sedan thrown in (540, etc). So the suspension is not setup for sportscar handling. It is a compromise between the sporty requirement and the luxury-car demands of consumers. The 7 series is hardly a nimble sports car and the suspension is set up for comfort. The 3 series is not an all-out sports car either and has been built with practicality in mind as well as decent handling and so has a decent ride height, comfort level etc. Therefore it is possible to improve on the factory handling by carefully choosing a spring/shock that lowers the centre of gravity and improves dampening and reducing weight transfer. All this still doesn't preclude you from going the other way and decreasing the handling ability of your car for improved aesthetics and if you drive with this in mind it is not a problem. (It possibly still handles better, yet goes slower and stops better than some old - or new even - american muscle cars). As long as you use a little bit of common sense and try to keep within the law, it should not be a problem IN MY OPINION. [/OPINION]

I was looking at this today and thought - wonder if Chris saw this? Guess you did. Amazing aye bro?

What about just replacing the whole auto selector. I've got a damaged one you can have - pirate it for parts. Just pay for postage.
-
Before I did my first one my mechanical knowledge extended to oil and filter changes, plus a bit of helping people on their cars without really knowing what I was doing. I made some rookie mistakes and it took forever, but was OK.

If you HAVE to, bridge it into one, and run your fronts on the other 2 channels. but it's a bit under powered like Mike says. Just means if you ramp up the gains too much to get it loud it'll clip pretty early. But it will power it. Should run most cheapish fronts ok.

Do it your self with replacing all worn parts for $1200-1500. $2000plus if you pay someone.

WE used to do vaccum molding at school - You could use an old panel as the mold. You basically drill lots of holes in the mold for air to pass through, then place it on a large vacuum surface and pour a hot plastic mix over it and it sucks it to the shape of the mold. You'd need to spend some time setting it up and suss the right mix of vacuum and hotness of plastic to find optimum mix to get the shape without sucking the plastic right through the holes you've drilled and do some trimming afterward, but once set up it would only be the cost of materials and you could do a few panels an hour. Not sure of cost. We made model cars, bowls, hard hats etc with it. Don't know where you could borrow the gear, but the one at school wasn't big enough for car panels. This was about 12 years ago.

Awesome work Ollie. Looking like its being done right - way more progress than I thought you'd made. Top marks.

Have to wait till it's drier Chris - paddock is pretty wet after all this rain (actually finally got round to picking up all the tyres this avo - full of mud and water - so not fun), and need to find a new paddock car. I want an e28 this time. Alice?...... Also next time want to organise a bus trip to paihia. Pre drinks and paddock bashing, then bus ride into pubs at paihia, then another boozy bus trip home at 2am or whatever - badass. Save that for later in the year. What about a beach run?? Go somewhere hot and beachy, and then can do a drive on day and games/booze on beach the next then recover and go home the third. Either camping or cabin style (I know its low-budget accomodation, but that's what you get at beaches you're allowed to drink on). Somewhere Like Urititi or Kaiiwi lakes except maybe more central.

Eurosport are doing this as part of their 1st b'day celebrations except theirs is a timed thing with checkpoints rather than total kms - this means shortcuts are allowed, but of course encourages speeding. They are driving to Taupo, staying at the Top 10, doing a BBQ, then scavenger hunt next day followed by other games and prize draw, then track day day after. But because of the cars almost exclusively being streeters (like here) track day is gay - only allowed 3 laps at a time, then 30mins for brakes to cool. This means for your $100, if you are there for an 8 hour day you still only get a handful of laps. Plus all usual rules like overalls, helmets extinguishers, no passengers etc. Plus competition of any sort banned (I think that includes timed laps).

Post up the pics taken when it was up north. Was looking its best with the pacific in the background.

I was only saying a day or so ago that the megameet was due soon. Maybe just coincide them and stick to the same old format - I suspect there might be alot more people this year though, so maybe bigger digs? North Isl meet in or around Taupo. Usual convoys from either end of the island. I know its nothing new, but its a proven concept. Also, maybe push the date out a abit to try and make use of better weather. Last megameet was School/uni holidays plus a sunny long weekend - made rest breaks at the mount and whangamata fun as lots of other peeps/rides/girls out. Should be a long weekend to give time for travel from further afield. Otherwise there's always another 90mile beach run... Maybe a drive up the West coast to get there instead of SH 1 this time. Need to be reminded??? What events have other clubs held that we could steal ideas from?? There must be some cool events etc we could steal.

It doesn't NEED the laptop - did you even watch the whole video? Not sure what the laptop does - certainly not for actually opening the lock - I think it was just the guy entering in the digits that were decoded so they knew what key was needed without writing it down in the table and trying to figure it out - ie speed it up and make it look cool for the video. Bloody simple when you see it explained like that. $1200 is chicken feed when you're stealing $180,000 cars. Still not sure what they do about the immobiliser though??? -
Checked the bulbs? there are only two - both inside the cluster.
