  3. I am really starting to get tired of the small car reviews, and where was the lexus or porsche in the softraoder review? The track driver sux, and the holden vs. ford thing is just plain dumb - it is boring for non-ford/holden fans, and frustrating for ford/holden fans as it has been dragged out over 3 four weeks now. But, as usual the female presenter got the best segment and did the best job. Acutally, her segments are the only reason i bother to put my book down and flick it on on monday nights.

    E30 325i wanted

Yeah, spotted that one myself- looks to be very well priced.

Hire one - try somewhere like DTR.

    Help!!

I think that if it is in good condition, then that is a good starting point for you to work down from. It is only a 316 afterall. Others may have a better idea on the pricing, but I would say around 2 grand or below would be fair?? But if you test drive it, and get it mechanically checked and its a really good car, then pay whatever you are happy to pay, and tell anyone whos says you paid too much to get lost. A good car you are happy with is worth the few dollars that somone who has the luxury of it not being their time or money says you might have been able to save.

    Fuel Economy

Same figures for my auto 320i, so that seems about it for a E30 320. How does that compare to the 325 drivers?? And Emma, do I detect a recent dive in the language - bs must be a bad influence. Not a jab, just an observation.

    4x4ing Pics

I went, but not in the willys, took the ute I had then down, and also had a couple of mates with their vehicles. There weren't many original army willys at the show last year, just lots of the CJ's. Most army willys are in museums, or kept in mint cond by enthsiasts and collectors, but we like to use it as it was meant to be used. it is a 1942 vehicle, with it's original engine, body and suspension with only new electrics and the odd replaced bit like exhaust or tie-rod end, etc. If we painted it and fixed the cv joints whih started clicking last weekend, we would get something in the order of $15 grand for it as it is all original (even the shovel and jerry cans are authentic WWII items. only the axe isn't - we have the original axe, but the one on the vehicle fits better in the holster). We quite often get angry jeep owners telling us off for thrashing such a rare vehicle, but you can buy most parts for them because, as with bimmers, all of the original dies still exist, and there is a company which makes original parts from the original dies. Want to go this year in the willys - its on the 3rd of April I think, but it looks as though getting the boat back in the water will be a priority and I'm going to miss it Boat scheduled to be finished in two weeks, plus one week contingency, plus two weeks required on the water to get everything sussed, and make sure all the planking swells up, gaps close, no leaks, electrics work stearing and gearbox works, engine pumps water, etc, etc. But, if it works out, the willys will be going hard down there. Putting a winch on her sometime between now and then, and so only need lockers (not going to happen) and some new rear tyres - the current ones are getting a bit down and you can't buy that tread any more (it is an argo tread made by firestone - looks like a tractor tyre but smaller) you can buy original willys tread (military tread), which is non-directional, but the argo tread is a directional much more suited to mud). We have an a-frame for it, so if I do go, will probably tow her down with another 4x4 - prob a toyota landcruiser - and have two vehicles.
  11. That's the point. It's geek speak (G33k sp34k) It was created on the internet by self-confessed computer geeks as a way to converse withoutothers catching on - i.e. their own laguage which as it happens made them feel elite or 1337. It was originally AFAIK used mainly by hAx0rs (hackers), but very soon the script-kiddies (young idiots who use programs written by hackers to spread virii and hack sites without having to do much thinking or hacking of their own, and who then think they are mad 1337 hAx0rs yo! coz i hAx0r3D this site) anyway, the script kiddies got in on the act, and viola! bobs your mothers brother, it found its way into general use on the web. Edit: I should have spelt it: G33|< sp34|< - sorry. /\/\y b4d

  13. Not so much the getting of the energy to the car, but the production of it. You don't use much fossil fuel to mine an oil well once it is found (i.e. the intial costs are minimised when spread over the life of an oil field), but the cost of "manufacturing" hydrogen is always the same i.e. high, PLUS, the cost of shipping hydrogen to filling stations is somewhere in the order of 10 or so times that of fossil fuels as hydrogen takes up so much more space physically to provide enough to give the same motive power. Weight-wise, less, I believe, but it is something like 20 times less dense even when compressed for shipping. So one oil tanker of petrol to the petrol station becomes 20. I have a reference for all this info if you would like to check my figures. But you are right in that people do tend to ferget fossil fuel doesn't magically bubble up out of the ground at the servo ready to go. And, you are right, the hydrgoen engines are several times more efficient than regular internal combustion engines, so in that way there is a saving. But, overall, there is not a substantial environmental benefit, alothough it is getting better all the time as methods are refined and technology is improved, so we will get there eventually IMO. In case you haven't noticed, this is a pet topic of mine. Oh, and as far as the noise goes, as long as they make electrice cars sound like the pod racers in starwars, I'll be happy **makes pod racer noise**

  15. How'd I miss that? I look EVERY DAY on that blasted site for bits. Well done, but I don't want it badly enough sorry, just spamming your thread. Would have bought it at your price though.
  16. wtf?Fuel cells work by using hydrogen to create electricity. You have an electric car. there is no combustion, no cylinders, no carb or fuel injection. It uses a chemical reaction to mix hydrogen and oxygen which turns to water vapour (H2O - Hydrogen x2 Oxgen x1) the result is a small amount of electricitry produced. Do this alot and you have enough to power a car. There is emerging fuel cell technology to power cellphones and laptops (cool, a cell phone with an exhaust pipe!) Hence why it is called a cell - i.e. battery cell. True you will need to get the hydrogen - oxygen mix right, but it won't be by using a carb or EFI, it will be controlled by the chemical reaction itself. You will fill up with pure hydrogen at fuel stations, and away you go. Fuel stations will either produce their own hydrogen on site, or have it trucked in like petrol is now. Problem with hydrogen is, it requires as much electricity to create as it produces (actually more - as energy is always lost, not gained Newtons Second Law) So, as we use fossil fuels to produce electricity to produce hydrogen, we are back to square one. hydro, wind and solar power are all options of course, but each has it's own drawbacks and environmental ramifications (eg hydro involves the f**king up of river systems, wind is unsightly and uses lots of space, solar is so inefficient) So, we are a long way off hydrogen being a practical reality. By the way, when using Google to remind me which of Newtons laws was the one I wanted, I stumbled accross this page. Damn funny I love: oh and the slogan at the top "If it's not here, it doesn't exist" LMAO!!!
  17. That's cool, they just need one of those F1 girls there aswll and it will be complete.
  18. lol - It was a cut and paste jobby of the email I sent the show. Sorry, but wasn't written for bs in the first instance. But you're right - my posts tend to get a bit long at times - touch typing tends to encourage this - it was only a 5min effort.
  19. I watched it again last night as I was stuck on the couch after some extensive oral surgery feeling sorry for myself. It was slightly better. The young presenter was still total wince material, but the older guy seems to have relaxed totally, and he now talks in a regular conversational style, which is great. The female presenter is still pretty good, never had any probs there. Thought they would be more critical of the Dodge Ram, but that is just opinion obviously. I felt that the review as per last time was a joke - no real info except lots of postulating, and noise making about its size and speed. Didn't load it up to test its carrying capactty (it is a work vehicle after all). Didn't try to take it round town to compare how it drives on more narrow streets. No mention of feul economy although we all know it will suck, just a lame review really. And the commentary from th e"race driver" - ouch!! "OK, we're coming to a bend now... round we go... bit of a handful there... now into the straight..." If I wanted a commentary of what the track looked like then fine, but I want to know how the vehicle is responding, how it compares to others. His comments about it being a bit of a handful were retracted slightly at the next corner "much better..." So, was it the vehicle, or was it just the driver taking a while to get used to it? Then there was another super mini review which although I am so tired of now, was not bad. The old guy did the testing, and mostly his comments were very good. He made some good observations, and came accross relaxed, knowledgeable, and talked about things that the market the cars are aimed at would be interested in. Then back at the studio with the young guy, although he made a nice muggins of himself yet again, the old guy calmly commented on interesting points and summed everything up nicely. Not perfect maybe, but much better, and good enough that had it been the first episode I'd have been a lot less critical. The boy-racer segment was nicely balanced and informative, even though some of those rice-mobiles were ridiculous - not the shows fault though of course. Good segment. Finally - get those f**ken Ford/Holden races off!!! If you want to compare Ford v Holden for those fans, do it properly and interesting, not just a 2sec clip at the end with more painful commentary, and seemingly no piont to the whole thing. Holden and Ford fans want to see a closely competed V8 battle with squeling tyres, slides, switching of position between the vehicles (even if its rigged as long as it doesn't look it) etc. I mean the commentator was going "they're really pushing these vehicles to the limits... the little four cylionders perorming well..." umm, My grandma almost drives faster round the supermarket carpark - c'mon! And with the exception of that last segment, the camera work is very good although the sound track really, really needs work. Some of the background music was really inappropriate. My $0.02c. Although, my bet is none of you watched it, so just my rant again.

The dude in Orewa has one on trademe linkage He wants $85 which is damn pricey, but I find he inflates prices for the tardme tards and if you call him he is much more reasonable. I got the whole front valance off him inc. the strip for a little under $180. His number is 094210897 0211625615 That's if you still want it now the wagon is for sale. You buying another touring? 4x4ing Pics

All in all an awesome day. Wish I had a couple of extra pics, but no film. It could have been a little wetter, but the bogs (although they don't look it) were very deep and sloppy, and quite a challenge. Have a couple of other pics, but they are boring group pics etc. Really good time had by all. No major breakages, in our group. One of the surfs had a small fire in the engine bay that was put out smartly. Afterwards it would n't go into 4wd, but my mechanic diagnosed a melted vacuum tube for the 4wd and he was back running in a couple of minutes. Someone in another vehicle sucked water through his intake and it f**ked his engine (conrod I think), but that was the only "fatality". One woman needs new pants after she drove her dsicovery off a bank/cliff, but she and her car were recovered a little worse for wear, but essentially undamaged. Anyway, hope you enjoyed the pics. -Bravo
