  1. Wow, they look great and im sure your car will too with them on. I love the finish on them. Please post pics of your car once thyre all mount up etc.
  2. Yerp .. to do that all you need the DME(ECU) EWS and Key that all go with the car or as others say, align the DME to the EWS. Coding isn't easy if your doing it from scratch .. it takes a lot of research and know how to perform it properly unfortunately. Its actually fairly simple once your all setup and takes no more than 10-30mins. Things to consider are Cruise Control, Clutch switches, EGS, DME binaries and also recreating your GM and SA codes.
  3. New e39 Andriod based Dynavin will have OBC Functions, just not the first batch of them.
  4. Correct, this is why it is important to recode the options and complete DME recoding including updating the DME with the manual binaries. The software behalves a lot different because of the loadings of the torque converter on an auto car and idling requirements, which are obviously different to a manual.
  5. Take a photo of the gears before dismantaling. Dont loose the washers on the back of the temp and fuel gauges as thats the earth. The inspection/warning light board has batteries on it that usually spill theyre guts, If they have damaged the Tracks on the board then you can solder and wire in new tracks. Check the main board, its not too complicated as its a single sided circuit board, look for lifting in the tracks and dry joints. Especially around the connectors. Lots of people yank these around when removing and the solder just car hold it. Use a solder sucker to remove old solder and re-apply new. Electrically, the system isnt that complicated .. the clear plastic face is fused to the cluster ,, gental prying with a knife will open this if its the first time open. One last thing and probably the most important, the needles are made of waffer thin alloy .. you dont really get a second chance if you bump them ... they just snap. I have just refurbished mine with a general tidy up. So close to just replacing all gauges with Stack or VDO Classic equivilants.. im over e30 gauges.
  6. cool idea .. needs twinpipes to get better sound.
  7. 540i was acting a bit weird .. start off by blaming the wife for not locking the car this morning ... then a very sluggish start, next thing transmission goes into limp mode. (trans failsafe prog) New battery, cleared all the fault codes and its back to normal. Did some detailed invetigation into why the battery causes limp mode and its pretty simple. The EGS (gearbox microcontroller) is obviously the gearboxes brain. Most modules BUS will start to fail after voltage drops below 11.5 volts however will work fine with low current but sustained 12+ volts. When it doesnt have enough current left in the battery the EGS can not send enough current to control the gearbox soliniods, this also causes it to loose communication with the DME, error detected in the DME and EGS of lost communication signal. When this happens the EGS fall back is 'limp mode' (trans failsafe prog on the MID.) which is mechanical only state. Thanks Ray for the heads up on Gavins battery pricing!
  8. get a dent specailist to work on it, they 9 times our of 10 can make it look like normal.

    DIYP badge for you!
  10. Cleaned the e30 today and prepped it for its trip to the fabricators. Few new goodies for this week
  11. great car .. and very well appointed. Welcome
  12. Awesome photos ... cheers for posting them up. and yeah ... Daytona goodness. Any pictures of its ass ?

    E39 TPMS

Thanks for that jochen. Im personally after a true TPMS system and my ears pricked up when I hear BME had a stock system. The Stack motorsport ones are about 3kNZD however support canbus and other aftermarket ones from the US are a lot cheaper however dont appear to have an output. Ive been looking into maybe putting together myself but haven't had a lot of luck locating components.
  15. Let me tackle this one question at a time -- You should try a letter. The great feeling of dis-appointment with the generic random select reply is priceless This video says no ... about $150 if you do it yourself mspaint .. if that fails below is quite a neat trick too.http://www.bimmersport.co.nz/forums/index....showtopic=27622
  16. Its fine, you grow into 30's .. take a year or two hah
  17. I see its time for this twice yearly debate again.

good stuff nice to see youre going all out on this thing. You should enter it in concorse haha
  19. Its all based on your certifiers defination of 'significant power increase' In my case I have gone from 170hp to 321hp .. I have a hoop in location B and a cover over the rear shaft so that was deemed significant for my purposes. Here is a thread on it on the LVVTA forums. As you can see theyll tell you the same thing, ring your certifier as its not an exact science because everyones application is different. This is why LV Certification process was setup in the first place. http://lvvta.proboards.com/index.cgi?board...y&thread=61 As a guide in my limited knowledge from what I have experienced, I think if you copied what I have done, you will be fine, come cert time. However please do phone your choosen cert engineer first and dont take my word for it.
  20. Jacks are so cheap, I dont get why people dont buy them?
