Idiot things previous owners have done to your car.
hybrid replied to _Matt_'s topic in General Discussion
The e30, wiring ... OMFG. Spent a whole day replacing the interior loom wiring back to stock as it had been hacked and spliced. The stereo install .. all speakers installed out of phase so the sound always sounded a bit off and no bass. fixed it all ... suddenly the stereo jumped into action and the car actually had some bass. hmm, lots of other winner stuff when I was changing everything over like munroe shocks installed, non OE brakes etc etc. Alarm was installed by a monkey ... fixed that. Everything else is sweet however. Basically when people tell me they have 'modded' their car I think instantly 'so youve f**ked it then' -
Case and point ... the 4 door pisses all over the 2 door looks wise.

GPS is in the rear usually however im not so sure the x5. The other thing with smith and smith is do you know if the part is geniune? as I have used them before and they use knock off stock got them to take it out and I just went with a OE one from JC BMW.

nah just leave it floating around ... its gangsta. Mines the same normally there is a clip inside the bumper shell which it pushes into. They break from time to time.

What mark said above. The reason its illegal as there is no masking of the xenon light which ends up scattering and its almost like having high beam on. The projector inverts the light and backing plate mask upside down so the light appears the right way up (on the road and out to the left) The mask leaves a crisp definded line as not too blind other drivers. Using a bowl shaped reflector system doesnt mask the light properly (even with a bowl or lens setup for side walk flare) The hard way (failed a warrent) ... I ended up converting my US e46 lights to left hand side walk flare (reversed my masking plate inside the projector housing) After I did this and they re-tested my lights it past and has done for the past 3 years.

As stated before, Facts: * Late model e36 cars had an HID headlight and ballast system option availible, there for making it legal in a e36 in NZ * NZ Law prohibits aftermarket HID headlight systems being installed into vehicles, if you install a e36 OEM projector headlight and ballast system into your car its legal. * You will fail a WOF if you have a HID ballast system installed into a non projector housing. (standard headlights) * Your projector system must have left hand 'side walk flare' Right hand flare is prohibited * if your model of vehicle didnt come with HID and projector housing, it is illegal to install projector and HID for road use. Some of this stuff is obviously blanket across all vehicles. What makes it dangerous for other road users is people installing aftermaket ballast systems into non projector housings, installing left hand drive side walk flare head lights, installing project headlights with no vertical adjustment.

Welcome to e30 ownership ... Dont worry, its normal. Someone said the same thing to me when I got mine and found out its quirks. Youll spend the next 2 months driving it with the things pissing you off then youll become good at pulling cars apart(weather you like it or not) to fix it. Its sweet, youll learn to actually enjoy your new forced upon hobbie.

hehe .. yeah Ive had lots of offers on that too ... really trying not to crack the paint. Is going to be touch and go with a heat gun as it is bending it around 90 plus a mild pull. Also dont want to deform the roundness of the guard .. some chode who first did my e46 on my first set of 19s used a hammer and while it didnt crack .. it was a tad on the piss. Restoring it took ages and a lot of money.

Hey fellas, Im after a guard roller to borrow for week for the e30. Can anyone help out? box of piss in it for ya. same as this

So was messing around and got GT1/DIS44 working finally with the Carsoft interface. Also managed to buy a new set of tyres which fit a lot better and allow me to turn full lock without touching. Which will allow me to have the car certed. Yay. My spare set of LMs with FK-452 18x8.5 on 225/35r18 Going to send this set in to have curb rash removed and cleaned up a tad. then its time to roll the fenders and lower. I currently have the shocks wound up to the hardest setting to reduce travel .. its solid as s**t and not much fun on the back however will put this back once fenders are rolled. Its gonna be tight but worth it I think. Also note stack of sacrificial rubber
