If your going into the higher spring rates than 525/700 and driving the car on the road lots I would look into reinforcing those points we talked about Ashkan to avoid subframe and trailing arm damage over time.

Haha nah, you have to remember the rubber is 20+ years old and would split. using the mini rotational sander you can slowly route it out too size and check clearences each time for a perfect fit and surface without over shooting the mark. yes you're correct, the welder is coming up and we will probably chop after the collector and weld on some new pipe. Either that or you can dent where the sway bar is. More on all that next week

Update: Next on the list was the intake plenium clearance. The heater pipes were in the road. Brendon took around an inch off the pipes. to fit the new samco heater pipes. Yes .. bloody samco heater pipes. lol Out the come. Tissue paper to stop my pet hate of coolant all over the carpet Needed to shorten the pipes. And I wanted to test out my new dremel tool:) 33,000rpm cutting tools rule. Test fit the hoses, had to sort out the gromet to fit the hoses. More dremel action. No photos on this, but I needed a face mask as it was like doing a burn out in rays workshop .. the smoke that came off it was insane. Inside fitment finished position .. will clamp it up when everything is put together Next is the oil cooler and headers mock up. Also a shed load of parts inbound from BMW

dear douglas. I think this is the car you have been waiting for. your friend josh

There was one that was advertised for 85k as mentioned before. Lots of CSL copies around with vorstiener boots / bumpers and the replica wheels. Tom I think you could easily ask for higher the regular value as yours truely is in mint condition. However I wouldnt use trademe to sell it. Take it some a dealer to sell, as doug knows .. the right person comes along who wants some thing truely specail.

When prop shafts do that its usually because the shaft been dented / damaged before hand .. the engine torque does the rest.

badass man, loving this build.

ahh true .. bugger :|

General tip when working on cars even though your not anywhere near the electrical system, disconnect and remove the battery. Saves so much heart ache. Glad to see you have all your stuff!

Thats pretty much the only reason. Its a funny thing to try and explain to people who want dyno proof as a dyno can't really measure the difference. You wont gain any more power, however off the line your car is lot quicker up the rev range and more throttle nimble. Matching your revs on a down change (heal toe) takes a bit more practice as well. Other things are you introduce gearbox chatter with the clutch out in neutral however you can counter this by going for a hybrid mix of redline gearbox fluids. The sprung clutch helps with the high clamp pressure loading as does being carbon kevlar. While the car will be ok in AKL rush hour traffic .. its not going to be the most comfortible to drive. For your car, the flywheel/clutch mod would be good if you wanted more 'acceleration'. Before running out and doing this, let me get the thing running and come see how it is. As westie said with his metal comp clutch / lightened m20 flywheel and heavier pressure plate .. 'Its not for everyone" Hes switching to a carbon kevlar clutch to reduce some of the savageness of the bite.

+1 Use it all the time

how did you get on in the end with the flywheel ?
-
very handy in the end! .. thanks!

Aligning the engine part 2 Fancy new jig which allowed us to remove the subframe Some of the clearence issues faced You cant really see it here but the number 6 pipe hits the firewall .. will pull it off and heat and bend it in two places .. one to clear the firewall and the next to clear the steering colum. E21 gearbox cross member final clearance for the booster ... heeeeeaps of room! And finally a video showing the DTM shifter in action. sunday the next update ...

O2 sensors just fit Extractors vs the sway bar ... will have to modify Money shots Next is a date with the hoist and some fancy new engine brace which will allow us to hang the engine in mid air while we move the subframe to work on the clearance issues. more on thursday.

Pulled the flywheel and pressure plat apart to install the flywheel onto the crank We found that the bell housing flange plate is the same as a standard e36 plate. Installing the Flywheel with $50 worth of new flywheel bolts :| and loctite Done Installation of the pressure plate which proved to be interesting. We actually couldn’t get the gearbox on in the end with it on. Even though we used a clutch alignment tool I think it still may have been out by a little bit causing the gearbox input shaft to misalign the spigot bearing. Will sort it out later, for now we get the gearbox and engine in so we can check the clearances. Done'ish' Its hammertime get in there bitch Its tight real tight Like a nun even

Bugger I just lost the whole post which took me an hour to do :/ Ill re-type it New Intake plenium boot The gearbox which we found out was missing the gear selector sensor. off to RealOEM to order.. Installed the engine mounts

Big thanks to Ray for his help last night ... 1:00am finish. Shifter install ... To ready the car for the engine install we needed to install and locate the shifter. Interesting to see that e30 already come with the front locators that you can just punch out. Almost as if BMW motorsport required this for the homologation for DTM shifters ? Temporarily installed
