  1. Super charger HP and turbo HP are two completely different things. If your happy with a boring linear torque curve up to 8000rpm (ish) where youll finally get your HP then go for a SC. If you want something thats going to kill some s***, get turbo. youtube up the HPF stuff, youll see what I mean Brendons cousin has a super charged e46 m3, and its ok .. not not rip your undies great. And for the money youll be outlaying .. I would go the extra mile and go for turbo. That and strengthen your subframe/unibody to cope.

  3. [Teaser] Wheel design revealed ... Going in tomorrow for their two week surgery. 18x8.5 and 9.5 are going to be this. Polished lip, gun metal silver centers, black chrome bolts (see second photoshop image below), reverse face for extra toughness and red cap centers (on order) reverse face vs non reverse.
  4. haha took me two years to find them Dunlop dz101
  5. Another update today: Unbolted the whole front subframe and shock assembly / engine and gear box to finally install the clutch. Turned out the first time we attempted (at 1am in the morning I might add) we bumped the alignment tool and just couldnt get the input shaft into the spigot bearing on the crank. Today was pretty challenging as well, took us 5 goes and 3 practice runs before we could get it in and the gearbox fully on with torqued and loctite'd pressure plate bolts. anyways .. some cool shots of the engine and suspension. A video of us dropping it out. Prep work. and out she comes gearbox / clutch mounting time.. All a bit of a tight fit in the bell housing. But its finally in! Took the time to tidy up a few other things while the engine was out Put the new copper nuts for the extractors on and torqued them. Also modified the s50 water pipes while we had a chance... as it sits in behind the engine between the firewall .. there is much room to move, but we have sussed it now Finshed off now not hitting the number 6 pipe and now allows the heat shield to be put back on. Which is a wise move as a rubber hose sits on that pipe. Also modified the steering rack so it has 3-4mm clearance from the sump .. as I said before this whole thing has been very very tight. Thats all .. we are now on the home run! .. next just bolting all the misc stuff to the engine and hanging the radiator etc etc. re-hang the exhaust that we took off earlier in the week .. will photo it when its back on for ya'll to see. and then itssssssssssss.. wiring time! Will re-align the DME <-> EWS and we should be ready for the first test fire in the next week or so ...
  6. Use to run a Dice system on the business .. then changed to a Intravee II. On the latest software the Intravee is a far better system, however the price after you buy the Alpine KCA-420i interface module makes it a fairly expensive solution. Im running 16:9 nav so I need it. PM jochen about another option. A memory card based 'cd changer' which I think was around 250 odd euros. Looked very promising.

nothing beats security lights and a great big security camera steering them in the face. http://reviews.logitech.com/7061/4324/reviews.htm Works through your power socket and power lines in the house to transmit images.

BDM / checksums aren't cheap unfortunitly. Reason it would of taken him a bit to purchase it.
  9. Erm .. Paul told me when he gave it to me.. will text him and find out. It wasn't obviously just paint. Something they use for their restorations ... can you tell its not the first time they have done one of these haha. More updates to come .. was going to post how the full exhaust system came out .. however brendon and have pulled it off in prep for dropping the engine out to clean mission and re-align the clutch and start some wiring and doing some lines. Also started pissing around with the fuel system / pump.. purchasing the radiator fan this weekend too.

    WARNING

Hmmm I can understand why .. I have seen a couple of aftermaths of full stretch .. the side wall inner caseing starts to delam from the tread casing over time .... similar effect to driving on under inflated tires eventually the tire will chew itself from the inside out.

    WARNING

hmmm im actually not a fan of full stretch as the tire wall inner casing on most tires just cant cope and yeah the do just chew themselves out. however a mild stretch is fine. Im about to do 245/40zR18 on a 9.5 which is just in the tires manufactures specs.
  13. Negative .. 1 set for dot approved rubber and another set for road rubber.
  14. hehe glad you enjoyed it .. Im saving the panel work and new wheels for last .. will reveal in time what im doing with the second LMs. Its suttle but should make the car look amazing. RE: exhuast law .. will check it out and see what I need. going to be super pissed if I have to put the emissions pump and gear back on ! ... might have to get this project into overdrive to make that date tony ,, it will include all the panel work so I can fit the new wheels.
  15. You can get a remus rear muffler for about that (1k). you can replace the rest as you can afford it. Trust me .. you wont regret it. Give Woolfe a call anyways .. nice guys to deal with and know their stuff. They also stock more than just remus.
  16. Nice .. quite rare in that sizing.
  17. Woolfe mufflers can do a Remus rear muffler for it .. which you will like as the qaulity is right up there. They can get the mid pipes and center muffler. You will be looking around 2500+ however. You could go the custom route like I did with the e30 except just buy a rear muffler and center muffler. again, a bit of $$$. Sound wise, pipe size, runner length center muffler and as stated before header collection points all make a difference to the sound. For the m54b30 (assume thats what your running in your 5) you want something that has a nice bassey sound with nil drone in or out of the cabin, You want it so the car is louder than stock but not so much that its annouying. when you open the taps it sings but idelling its a mild sporty sound. The 330i e46 is running a supersprint stainless system that removes the mid pipe 2 into one collector to give a true twin pipe system and gives a lot better high rev power. Sounds awesome in a refined way too Whats your budget?

pro tip: hold the 'take a picture' button half way down to allow the camera to focus in low light settings. It should emit a red light to help the camera focus. If not .. try taking the photos back slightly further. Welds look nice!
  19. In context for the e46 as the If so it very hard to find one NZ New with Satnav full stop, It was a $7000 option new. If you get a Jap one with a 16:9 screen and jap nav computer then youre half way there. Talking to someone like Hotwire here onbimmersport and buying one of his looms, purchasing a nav computer and BM54 / gps aerial / brackets and your there. I hate to say it but in a lot of circumstances the jap cars are better equiped if your looking at 00-03's They are also priced more reasonably than the NZ models. You can tell a lot from a pre purchase inspection and checking all the usual e46 issues. Most of the problems of the e46 happen across the board except singapore import models which suffer environmental issues. A e46 thats serviced in Auckland and drives the every day commute is the same as an e46 from japan doing the same thing that has had its service record followed. This also again has been stored in the BMW database and should be picked up on a the pre purchase. So generally speaking with the excemption of Singpore, the Jap vs NZ debate is a bit of a over hyped fizzer that came from the trademe fanboy rumor mill.
  20. Question ... what exactly is a 'sat-nav' issue ?
  21. Only thing you need is practice ... I've taken some of my best shots on my bog standard lens. Lighting is key (as you have found out) .. watch for crushing the black too much in post. Its a pretty played out look these days in the photography circles. Sometimes popping the contrast up in a photo is all that will save it thought .. Practice practice practice ... it wont take you long to get a nack, then youll know what lenses youll want .. as they are not cheap as you have probably have found out. BTW .. nice shots of the car!
