    E46 M3 Hot Oil

What is the temprature reading from dead cold? Is the data logging OBDII or BMWs DS2 protocol from the ECU? Look at holly cooler .. theyre very well made ... no chinese junk here. https://www.holley.com/products/plumbing/cooling_systems/oil_coolers/ here is mine its a tad on the large side and goes up past the bumper line
  5. Dont be scared off by a few sounds within. Give HellBM a phone, for either repairing it .. or he has a s62 there if that doesnt work out.

If you run a stock ECU, I can log the timing / fueling easy enough.
  8. Dry joints in the connectors on the PCB. Find someone who's good at PCB soldering with a high temp iron to do some rework for you.

    E46 M3 Hot Oil

Sensor should be pre oil filter as it is a true representation of the temprature coming out of the sump. Can you send us the data log from your car ? you can tell a lot from the data. The sensor will be working just fine unless its been wired incorrectly. EG grounded to the chassis instead of being grounded to the datalogger (dash) ground. This can cause sensors to read in correctly as it is effected by natural resistances and/or stray voltage. There is a potential for oil pickup starvation which can be cured with gating of the sump or running an accusump system. Dry sumping would obviously be the perminant fix but its expensive _STILL_ *rolls eyes* The grade of oil is another thing, the thinner it gets the hotter it will run and so forth. You can also look at the position and ducting of your oil cooler it is also entirely possible at slower speeds the aero on the car is going into negative pressure around the oil cooler at slower speeds. You can put a gopro and some woolies on / around your cooler to see whats happening. Also lastly in a race application I would look to getting a bigger cooler. Im running a large earls (holly) cooler for mine. But I would awnser the above questions first. lots of things to think about
  11. Take your pick https://www.pegasusautoracing.com/group.asp?GroupID=FUELPUMPLOW
  12. Yeah thats the one ... great little jacks
  13. avoid powerbuilt ... had several and even my current one has died (again) The best jack ive found for the $$$ is the little alloy ones from save barn (when theyre in stock). If you dont need to lift really really high then these are perfect. Theyre light, easily broken down if you say want to use it for a track day or a mates place. And 90% of the race series use them There are some similar on trade me for $100 more http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-accessories/tools-repair-kits/jacks/auction-775200071.htm
  14. did this only once in my e30 many moons ago. had to jack it up and give it the reach around from underneath. Powered up the starter motor supply and earth ... worked mint.

Can take a look tonight .. but pretty sure youre running BMW press car software on that DME from our last investigate into it as it doesnt exisit on the standard ETK anywhere. The reason is almost all vehicles on the road run for efficentcy. They have closed loop software that uses the o2 sensors to maintain optimal burn for emmisions standards. You car will go open loop when your thottle position is over 85-90%. In this mode the car doesnt use the o2 sensors for trim but a pre-determined fuel and spark tables. These are tuned for power in mind. This is where a lot of tuners make their adjustments and leave the closed loop maps alone. Removing O2 sensors on a car which doesnt have the software / tuning to coup with it will mean the car will default to fail-safe rich maps for lower load zones. you will have a reduction in power and an major decrease in fuel efficency. Your car will also smell like a gas station.

  19. Install chrome or firefox ... never thought id say this, but the web works a lot better not using IE these days. Its just so far behind on supporting the open standards properly that most of the webs based on.
  20. Fixed Windows all masked up for spray.
  21. We thought of that, but I think it will eventually become a staircase to provide internal access downstairs. chur, yeah the theme should look good with a nice contrast when done .. should be able to post it up in a week or so. Yeah I got a bit anal with the sanding, its now perfect haha. corners were hard to do, but got there in the end. Thanks glenn, yes I did get a multitool and it has been very handy with the finishing work .. or sqeaking some of the gib segments in. I used it for the sanding of the architraves and sils
  22. Cheers, yeah I must admit i had questions about what I would find when we lifted the tiles and what was under it. Also what was under that wall on the floor, would I have to replace board ? ... obviously it was all good! Took the opportunity to run some cat5 in the walls through out other parts of the house and re-route some alarm wiring. Also got a sparky in to setup for the complete re-jig of the kitchen.
  23. Learings so far.... The 50s were actually a pretty good time for construction materials. Solid timbers used and decent cladding. We are lucky to have cedar weather boards. The only down sides is that pine goes hard as a rock, Westy warned me of this. And I will say that using finishing nails on this hard stuff pretty much guarantees that you have to use a cover punch and pin driver to get the buggers in without bending them! .... so many bent nails pulled out. Dads framing gun also had a hard time with the 90mm nails. Got there in the end though! Also nothing is straight! ... I spent quite a few hours with the electric planer reshaping new wood to get it to fit properly. All and all not bad for two weeks work! .. and some much appreciated effort from a few mates! More to come!
