EWS3 is quite different to EWS2 on the MS41 and cant just be bypassed due to rolling ESN code changes. You will need to run EWS and DME + key at least. There are bypass modules around but they are very hit and miss. The DME can be re-flashed to remove it. We haven't done this on a DME yet as one hasn't come available to try.

Hmm it does make things a lot smoother.. jumping between m62 and m62tu is quite interesting ..

There is a formula for these which works to get M5 like performance from them. You have to open it up however to do so but its not too wild. You would gain around 20hp with a healthy motor with the obligitory exhuast, air + tune.

You could just get one of these things .. https://avinusa.com/bmw-5-series-e39-x5-e53-android-gps-navigation-system.html Currently the most advanced system on the market.

Seriously take my hat off to people like yourself who have the balls in the first place to buy a rough car bring these things back from certain death. Good stuff man, need more people like you in the world
-
Jooles, your going to need to get good and pulling apart and fixing your own cars with an e31. That or as others have said deep pockets. You are stepping into a car that you cant simply find the cheapest etailer for parts. The amount of people selling parts for them online is reduced and the OEM parts are classed in BMWs 'special & m parts' category. Its not like owning a non M car everything is really twice the price. Just fair warning.

Well if its kept within the rules the only thing that wins at the end of the day is the driver ability.

Jamez' series is pretty large up here. Its the everyday mans motorsport with great cheap fun to be had by all. Will be good to see you SI guys make a great series the same as it has for up here. Just keep in mind its the racers that make the series and everyone sticking to the rules and getting involved in the community aspect of it is the key to success.

What spare wheels do you use for your e90? or alternatives?
hybrid replied to ler4_war's topic in General Discussion
Modern BMWs riding that old chestnut aye ? BMWs most stupid idea ever not to have a spare designed into a cars inventory -
They did and didn't. Maybe for every day use yes I agree. However the same ECU was used for Group-N and Group-A so was one of the first BMW road ECUs to have high speed engine telemetry which is awesome for 1996 technology, it has some great features that were only present in higher end aftermarket ECUs such as Pectel or Motec. This was an evolution from the race bread ECUs found in true BMW motorsport race cars EG ECU4a in the DTM cars etc Yea don't we all, The hardest part with CAN is building a transceiver and software library for it. Or using an existing one. The sensor input part is dead easy. Also if they load any of the CAN messages with a coded protocol. Then you have to reverse engineer it. (I would expect so) PM me for my email address and I can respond more about it.

Calculated, The ZF 5speed I have doesn't support gear a gear position sensor. Hence the clutch switch. It has the added bonus of the ability to measure how fast your shifting gears around the track. You can literally add up and deduct the clutch in time and work out where you're loosing time in gear changes. The injector output from the ECU is grouped, the ECU function is individual. The way the knock works is its three sensors that work on listening to each cylinder on alternate cycles to pick up on each cylinder. Its pretty even and only detected it when I was forced to put 95 in out of town. You could always try to reverse engineer it and build your own sensor array / communications system.

If you're looking at after market, Koni or Bilstien will see you right. I prefer Koni as a personal preference, but the choice is entirely up to you and your budget. Springs also very important, getting a nice progressive set of matched front and rear spring with a tuned front and rear rate is key to these vehicles geometery working for you instead of against you. Lots of people buy cheap and while they get what they were after the longevity isnt there in the shocks. Bushes are another area to look at, Personally I think 99% of people would be more than happy with new OEM bushes. People think they want to go for hard materials however for a road car that sort of stuff belongs on the track and not a road car. Just going new will make it feel brand new Sway bars are a good upgrade but only after you get your springs and shocks sorted. They can really help level out body roll. I have adjustible ones which I needed to tune in the minor weight differences for my engine conversion. I still wouldnt mind making my rears a tad software to help with rear lateral grip. Anyways, lots of opinions on the subject. There are some great kits the likes of UUC or bimmerworld etc do. Skys the limit. -
Cheers James, yeah a fair bit but well worth the reward of learning experience that went with it. I love the 1khz sampling rate of yours, really makes tuning for fuel and suspension possible for very detailed analisys and tuning. For me I have all of the following: Engine Speed, Engine Temperature, Engine Oil Temp, Ignition Angle, Intake Air Temp, Adapted Throttle Position, Road Speed , Air mass, Injection time Bank 1, Injection time Bank 2, Exhaust VANOS Angle Actual, Intake VANOS Angle Actual, Lambda Bank 1, Lambda Bank 2, Idle Control , Fuel Cut Cylinder Fade, Knock 1, Knock 2, Knock 3, Knock 4, Knock 5, Knock 6, Battery Voltage, Exhaust VANOS DME Target, Intake VANOS DME Target, Engine Load, Clutch swtich, Gear Position, Oil Pressure. Planning brake pressure, suspension travel on all 4, slip angle amoung quite a few other things.

Good to meet you the other week. Look to bin those munroes when you can, they wont do you any favours in the handling department. But its something you can look at later on.
