  1. Bloody hell, that's unfortunate! Do the older engines have the copper exhaust nuts as well? I chickened out and drowned the ones on the project engine in AC-90 for 48 hours before I removed the studs. Worked a treat
  2. Yes, has been a requirement for ages
  3. Could you take the specs to a place like Franklin Cams and have them mill them up for you?
  4. 8/10 are common with the auto, can you order the two longer T12 through BMW?
  5. Never thought I'd se the day where you let that one go mate Something with an S62 flavour would be the only real successor I can think of, maybe an M5 wagon?
  6. I'd be inclined to agree, though sometimes strange stuff happens. Really feel for ya dude!
  7. Interesting that the spring shear points are aligned with each other. Is there a possibility a collet might have been misaligned leaving the spring cap at an angle? Does seem pretty strange it would choose to let go at idle - I've seen the debris of an over-rev causing valve float and piston death, quite similar to your failed spring but the fractures weren't on the same plane. If you can bring yourself to conduct an autopsy I'd be fascinated to see the resulting carnage in the cylinder and on the crank. Did the engine entirely seize?
  8. I assume you're looking for a medium case? Whats your budget?
  9. 'cos it's easier to ask a professionals opinion and then rubbish it with "factz" from the internets. After all, a DIY hack from the back blocks of some god forsaken town in the middle of Nowheresville, USA / Slovakia / Morrinsville knows more than a craftsman with 30+ years experience. Rant done
  10. Bwahaha, you're a dead man Pics of the x-rays or the off never happened

www.pelicanparts.com www.fcpeuro.com OEM parts for way cheaper than you'll pay at the dealers, far bigger range too. Even with the dollar shedding =/- US20c it's often still cheaper than the aftermarket equivalent locally. What state are the cams in with regard to scoring / pitting? Looks like you might have a bit of a trench on E2, bit hard to tell from the photos though.
  12. Hows your life insurance?
  13. The GT badge is cute - nicked it off a 4EFTE Starlet Would be cooler if it were an M54B30 with a hairdryer. Sorry, but widebody is naff unless it's a factory race special. Next!
  14. Have been meaning to ask - what was the all up cost for the engine swap (including headers, link, dyne tuning etc)? REALLY want a set of those Schricks for my M54 but doubt I can justify the $

They're pretty reliable little units as long as they haven't been overheated. The aluminium blocks tend to have the head bolts strip their threads if they've been overheated, and the Viton seals on the Vanos don't last forever but those are the only mechanical issues really. M52 is a great place to start for an E30 repower - all you need is the sump kit, correct engine arms, find someone to delete the EWS from the ecu and adapt the loom to marry up with the E30 connector. 24 valve swaps are VERY well documented so reliable answers are quite easy to find. Quite torquey given their relatively low displacement, free revving & parts can be gotten cheap if youre prepared to look around & be patient. Will be following this build with great interest
  16. +/- 2km/hr would probably be within the speedos margin of error. Have seen a number of write-ups affirming that aftermarket pod type intakes add induction noise and not much else. Washable panel l]filters do flow more air but it comes at the expense of filtration - the gain seem to be 1-3hp across the full range so not enough to be noticed by the trusty butt-dyno. +1 on more photos!

How the hell did I not see this thread sooner?! Why not go to an M54B30? They don't like spending extended periods of time at high rpm but you start with an extra 29kW & 80Nm torque. Similar dollars these days for a longblock assembly but you will need to go for an aftermarket ECU or remap an M50/52 dme to suit. Plenty of solvents that will clean the grunge off your new donk, might pay to disassemble and check for wear on the cams - looks like that poor engine went for extended periods between services and was fed the wrong oil, pretty good chance the Vanos unit will be poked going by the looks of that. Cam lobes seem ok though, you might get lucky Thumbs up for going down the steel panel route!
  18. Damn, figured they'd probably need one but thought I'd check anyway. Ta
  19. Whats the legals around the adjustable caster mounts? Could be the solution for my E36 - would like a little more caster but not interested in swapping over to M3 control arms.
  20. RHD conversion kills it in my books. Looks like adjustable Konis in the rear and OEM Sachs or low spec Bilstiens up front. Gold paint on the centres just makes it look a bit cheap to me. Given how rare an E30 M3 is in ANY spec these days I think $65-80k would be a fair spread for it, will be astounded if he gets anywhere near the asking price. That said, it is a sellers market for these cars - good luck to him!
  21. Roll cages that comply with Motor Sport New Zealand regulations. As Ron said, that system looks cheap & flimsy - do yourself a favour and support local businesses
  22. Given the system is probably made in China under contract you can probably find one for much cheaper than fleaBay Or you can go through a reputable exhaust shop locally and have something made that will meet NZ dB requirements and made with higher quality steel by local tradesmen. Look for shops that can build MSNZ approved cages, they'll have the knowledge & skills to build what you want and get it right first time
