  1. Hmmmm..... tried to use ETK this afternoon - has BMW gotten wise to the unauthorized (?) login & shut it down or is the site just down for maintenance? Also, the http://tis.spaghetticoder.org/s/view.pl?1/04/60/64 appears to be dead too Any useful alternatives?
  2. With regards to the pedals, is it the complete pedal box? Or just the two individual pedals? Ta
  3. Yeah, thought so. Was having issues trying to read the centre caps on the wheels, they do look pretty tacky for Alpina. Judging by the sellers command of English it did seem possible he didn't know what he's selling. Still, 6k for what looks to be quite a tidy 328 manual isn't a bad deal
  4. Really hard to get any useful info from the photos but is there any chance this is genuine? Having 19" wheels does seem a little out of character for an E36 but I'm certainly no expert on these things! The red leather interior is unusual, plus the badges look a little too tasteful for a wannabe. Is there a registry on the net that you can look up these kinds of things? Alpina??
  5. Yeah, the B5 Passat is the same car under different shaped panels. The front end slides forward about 7 or 8 inches into 'service' position, buuuuuut it involves removing headlights, stretching a/c & cooling hoses and numerous other PITA tasks. Most jobs require the front to be basically removed. Stupid VW / Audi Group Why not just set the damn thing up as a transverse mounted motor & box when it's front wheel drive?
  6. Schnitzers! The !8's look kinda rollerskate - ish
  7. Vinyl in a Bimmer? That's disappointing
  8. Well I'll be buggered! Looks quite rice for BMW, figured they were just Rimblades. Either way, beats the hell outta what I'm driving!
  9. QUOTE 1) Measure headliner and go to local Spotlight or other local fabric selling store and find a colour you like. Always ask the lovely shop ladies if you don't know what type of fabric will be suitable. 2) Get some spray on glue, also usually sold at above fabric store. 3) Pick up some beer on the way home. 4) Remove all trim from the headliner; lights, sun visors, Jesus handles. 5) Drink beer. 6) Unclip the A, B and C pillar trim. You can get away with just unclip the top but go all the way if you feel the need. 7) A friend helps at the this point as you need to pull the headliner away from the roof and twist it out the door. Adjust the seats to help get it out. 8) Drink beer. 9) This the messy and long part. Peel off the fabric from the fibreglass and start to scrape off the glue. sh*t gets everywhere. Paint scraper will work fine and gloves help from getting it all over your beer. 10) Once its nice and clean, lay the fabric over the top to ensure its going to fit. Working in sections, start at one end, spraying on the glue and sticking the fabric down. Don't be afraid to go nuts with the glue. Use a ruler to keep out the air bubbles. Once complete, I suggest leaving it overnight allowing it to stick properly and you time to finish the beers. 11) Next day, cut out the holes for the lights and trim. No need to go over board with cutting as this won't be seen by anyone once its in the car. Fold the extra fabric on the edges over the back and glue it down. 12) And as they say, installation is the reverse of removal. Unless you get the exact matching fabric, you may want to do the pillar trims and rear parcel shelf but up to you. Best how-to ever
  10. Hahaha, I see the comp organizers thoughtfully fitted rim protectors to the car Nicely done, are they paying for your fuel too?

Haha, I like the way you think!

she's already looked at a couple E39s and puts them in the same size category as the big Aussies Plus she's wise to the badging to engine displacement ratio so there's no sneaking a M52/54 past her unfortunately. Have already been busted on that one

Kinda stuck between a rock & a hard place. On a good day it looks like we'd get about 8 grand for the VW (low mileage for year etc) so it's not gonna get us a whole lotta car. In saying that there have been a couple of examples that have shown up in the 6-7k bracket. All 318s though. What sort of $ do you have in mind?

  15. Didn't someone talk about posting a how-to for redoing the liner with new fabric? Mines just starting to poo itself now

I had heard anecdotal evidence along those lines - good to hear it confirmed

Yeah, the slow factor is gonna suck but it's not like the VW is a rocketship. Plus if I want faster that's what the project 325 is for I have noticed a fair few M40 E36's popping HGs once they reach higher Ks, is this something that has carried across to the next model?

Hi all. Looking at moving into an E46 318i or 320i wagon. Currently tooling about in a 1.8T Passat which I'm becoming increasingly grumpy with. Am slowly bringing the mrs around to the idea of a BM, however she is unwilling to go for anything bigger than a 2 litre. Would love to go for something like a 528 but she's not so happy about the idea of managing a big car in the city with a baby & an unruly dog to contend with at the same time. So. Any common electrical or mechanical issues with the M43 & N42? Drivetrain, suspension or interior issues? I'd be much happier looking for an E36 but they're pretty thin on the ground. Have found a couple of examples well within our price range, but I'd really appreciate your thoughts & experiences. TIA
  19. So ugly it's something alright!! Ye Gods, looks like if you stood to close to it you'd be cut to ribbons! What's the reported top speed? Warp speed 3???
  20. "QUOTE (_Mark_ @ Aug 15 2009, 01:04 PM) I just realised this is the car that Atta looked at when he was searching for an E30. Was being sold privately then. He took it to DCH Motorsport for a look over and they told him it had had a massive shunt at some point and most of the front end has been cut and shut from another car. They basically told him not to touch it with a really long pole of the barge variety. That's so funny, because we both commented on this very car in Andre's Tech I pics thread yesterday and didn't realise it was one and the same. I was going to have a look at it today.... not any more! Hahahaahah it's that one!! I KNEW I HAD SEEN THAT PLATE BEFORE... Yeh, don't go near it :/ I could have picked it up for 7.5k... wow thats a mark up." Sounds like a smash & stitch job, kinda raises suspicions by the lack of description alone. If it's such a fantastic example surely you'd be a little more enthusiastic in your selling than one poorly constructed sentence??
  21. "• Newly Warranted and inspected at VTNZ, not from any cowboy testing station but the best only. It flew through inspection! " Would these be the same turkeys that missed two torn CV boots & a perished FL brake hose on the family wagon last weekend when I took it for a WoF at my local VTNZ? Not cowboys, eh?? Jackass
  22. Was trying to figure out why he went matte on the front panels & filler cap until it dawned on me that it's carbon fibre Duraseal. Oh dear :puke:
  23. Not sure if this'll help much, but to do the cambelt, water pump, thermostat etc on Wifeys B5 wagon it was necessary to put the car into 'service position'. Seems there's a couple of differences between our model and yours - found THIS which hopefully will be of some use to ya. If your V5 is anything at all like my 1.8T they're a massive PITA to work on. Seems VW have some unspoken design rule that dictates an otherwise simple design must be overcomplicated to the point where most people give up and hand the car to the stealer for any repairs or maintenance. Hope the link helps, and good luck!
  24. Keep the 17" M5 reps. Looks like around a 45 profile on your current wheels - bear in mind the lower the profile, the harsher the ride quality. Plus the higher the wheel diameter the greater likelihood of buckling the rim thanks to our goat tracks that pass for roads. If you're looking for a gangsta pimped out showboat then by all means slap on 19s or 20s; however if you want a comfortable touring wagon then keep it the way BMW intended it to be. The E39 M5 only ever came out on 17", and look at how well that monster rides! In short, 17" oem wheels great but then I'm a cranky old fart with my own opinions - if big rims make ya happy then go for it!
  25. My heartfelt condolences I was the dork that mooted the time space continuum rubbish..... I really hope it's new owner is appreciative!!
