Can recommend Precision AutoWerk on Archers Road on the Shore. They did a great job on my car and the service excellent.

Our F22 N55 is not quite 9 years old, done 72,100km and I today I had to spend the first money on it that's not tyres or brakes, but for a bloody oil leak. A cam cover gasket oil leak. Every time I watch a Youtube build video of any model BMW, seeing a bloody robot sploodging goo on some surface that you just know is going to leak in 72,100km I shake my fist, bloody. That's its first strike. Two more and it's being replaced with something newer.

I'll add this to the list of a '71 2002 Tii, an '87 M535i with new crate engine and dogleg box in excellent condition, another '87 M535i, an E39, an E60 540, a 1986 E28 528i from the UK with all the options and an E12 and probably other models of BMW things that I will regret getting rid of at some point all for the want of a 7 car garage 🙂

@aja540i I've DMed you. Sorry, @Thomasobrien4321 you are first runner up if @aja540i can't fulfill any of his duties!

This big 1.4m BMW logo sign didn't make the cut when I recently renovated my man cave so it's looking for a new home because the wife won't let me leave it in the living room. It's hung on my wall with LEDs behind it for maybe 12 or so years and would probably look pretty good in someone's garage. It's got a couple of cracks on the front and the back. Pickup is in East Coast Bays area of Auckland. I'll take $50 for it if you like and I'll throw in the string of LEDs too.

I had the exact same problem on my E39 540. After spending well over $2000 at a couple of trans shops trying to get it solved and it still went into limp mode on a hot day with the AC on, I traded it in on an E60 540 the very next day 🙂

The passenger side doesn't have control of the windscreen airflow.

As @E30 325i Rag-Top says, I've never really noticed any traction issues with my F22, 99% of the time. It hooks up really well from traffic lights, even in the wet, and the twisty parts of the Desert Road, no problem. The only times I really wish for a LSD is when I'm driving into my driveway and one rear wheel lifts completely off the ground and perhaps when playing around wet roundabouts. Yeah an LSD would be much better, especially if it was specified on the build sheet. But not $6000+ better if it's not there now.

I only know a single person that had an N47 in their X3 and their timing chain broke. So that makes a 100% failure rate that I know of. If that stat is any use to you?

And no one seems to mind if you leave your car in the middle of the road at Mangaweka

Thanks for this info. I did not know this was the process. State have not accepted the claim yet as they need to know who was driving and Bridgestone will not tell me (which I can accept they need to protect their employee). I'll go back to State and make the changes as you suggest. Thanks for your help!

Yah, that's the conclusion I came to, too. I had to laugh when I went back to them to get more details and they offered to pay my excess. I thought "Yeah man, you will be paying my excess for certain, and then some"
-
Yep. They of course accepted responsibility completely and was very apologetic. But it's clear that they don't see this as much of a big deal as I do. They in no rush. After a bit of sulking, I decided I wanted to choose my own repairer rather than them, called my insurer for advice and decided to make a claim and now have the power of State Insurance on my side. Does anyone rate Precision Autowerk as an aside? State love me though. In the last 10 years I've had to call them to explain that my wife has backed her car into mine on our own driveway on 2 separate occasions. Nothing beats calling to make 2 claims in one call. Twice.

Took my F22 into Bridgestone to fix a slow leak on left rear. They said they couldn't do it right then, so I said, fine, I leave it with you, you call me when done. 4:15pm rolls around with no call, so I wander over to see if they are done fixing the puncture. Walk up to reception, tell them I'm there to pick up the black F22. Reception guy says "let me get someone else to help you" as he quickly walks off to get someone else. Someone else turns up and says "Hi, I need to show you something". I say as I follow him out, expecting to be told that I need to buy a new Michelin Pilot Super Sport, "I don't like being told I need to be shown something"! We walk out to my car, only to be shown instead a dented passenger door and rear wheel arch and a scratched up side skirt. At that point I'd happily have needed to buy a new tyre instead. Somehow someone had driven the side of my car into the back of a white Toyota Corolla. What did I do to my BMW today? Spent an hour making an insurance claim for damage when I wasn't even driving the car.

I have a set of E28 wiper arms here, do you think they are the same? When I say set, I have 1 side in my hand, the other side is around here somewhere, I'll go look, but don't know if the one I have is left or right.

We bought a 2009 130i for the wife 5 months ago to replace her completely terrible in every single way E90 320i. It's such a fun car, we bloody love it. We took it on a trip to Wellington and I grinned the whole way down and back. The sound of it over 3000 rpm is most arousing. It handles like no 5 series I've ever owned and OMG the sound. Make sure you get the LCI though, get the motorsport, the auto is great, the manual would probably be pretty good too. Ignore anyone that talks about fuel economy, they are boring people. Who cares how much fuel it uses? It's there to burn, burn it. But the wife's long time average is 9.8l/100km, but so what? I think we got to Wellie and back on 7.8l/100km or thereabouts. Except for that part in the Desert Road where it was over 35l/100km. I prefer driving her 130i over my E60 540i by a long, long way, so that's what we use in the weekends. Yeah, the 540 is very comfortable (so comfortable) and quiet and fast and smooth and has all the things (comfort access, adaptive headlights and active steering etc) but it isn't fun like the 130i. The 540 will be replaced in December when its warranty runs out and I can't freakin wait. Buy the 130. There will be no regrets.

Newly purchased 135i running badly - beginning of a saga?
Spudooli replied to SteveArmy90's topic in Maintenance
We bought a 2009 E87 130i from a dealer just last week. During purchase discussions, particularly around us both understanding the warranty, the salesperson made it clear to me that "if anything big happens, you can claim on the MBI and we'll pay the excess". This thread immediately jumped to my mind. I told them, that for the next 3 months, if anything big happens, it's all on them and I won't be claiming on any insurance. They just smiled and nodded -
The smallest daughter (still on L plates) just got back from driving the wife's new (to us) E87 130i for the first time. As she came down the driveway she had a huge stupid grin on her face, only to tell me that she waaaay prefers the E87 over the E90 320i she has been learning to drive in. So proud of her.

E39 540 MS - Who would deal with this guy...
Spudooli replied to hqstu's topic in TradeMe discussions
The number plate light is working fine, but it's an LED beside the reversing camera, so has a different resistance than a normal bulb, so throws a warning. But yeah, while the number plate light isn't much of an issue, I also ate in that car too. -
It's only done 110,000km which is not very much for a diff I would have thought.
-
Apparently the correct level of oil is inside it still. And good point about the bearings and teeth. I hadn't thought of that.
-
Our 2006 E90 320i has a very noisy diff. Jebus only knows why it hasn't lasted longer than this... Anyways, never having had to deal with a diff problem before, my question is what is the best course of action here? Should I repair or is it better/easier to just replace from a wrecker? If repair is the consensus, can anyone recommend a shop?
