  1. That kit looks pretty good! I just got some cheap one off trademe as mine doesn’t have a egr cooler, so was just the blank and new front pipe I needed. and got a genuine zf seal kit off a UK place on EBay. Was pretty straight forward to do, just took a bit to get an end of the seals out enough with a pick to grab onto them and pull them out.
  2. Loved the first one I had, even if it was briefly, so knew what I was getting into again, which is why I jumped at it! intake wasn’t too bad. Just super messy. Runners on the head were a pain as couldn’t get right down into the tops of the valves, but is better than what it was, and no more egr pumping sh*t into it now atleast
  3. So sold the two pfl diesel x5’s I had, and was ideally looking to get a *cough cough* Touareg *cough cough* as seemed best bang for buck with hight adjustable suspension, hi/low range, locking centre diff and 3.5T towing to make it a good all rounder. I went and test drove a petrol v8 with 170k km on it. And was an absolute turd. Sounded good, went well. But everything inside squeaked, all the soft touch plastics were peeling off, and generally pretty rough, so passed on that to keep an eye out for a nice diesel one. But then found this Gem on marketplace a couple weeks ago and after a week it dropped from 4.5k to 3k, so went and checked it out and for the price was too good to pass up, so ended up with another diesel e53, but a facelift. Will hit 300k in 30kms, but you wouldn’t think so. Nz new, I’m the third owner after 2nd bought it off his wife’s boss, so well serviced and looked after. Have just finished up given it a biiiig service of new fluids and filters all round, replaced mechatronic seals, transfer case actuator gears, new front outer CV’s, polished headlights, deleted egr, had no swirl flaps from factory which was good. Cleaned all the gunk out the intake and runners, new T.stat, with water pump and belts on the way still. so now should be good for another 100k
  4. Looking for one or a pair of 8” style 66 wheels. Just got a set to find one is a 9”, so can trade that if needed and shipping to dunedin
  5. Drove the compact, shredded the drive belt. Luckily not far from home, so let it sit for 10-15mins to cool down, drove it 2 mins up the last part of three mile hill, then coasted it pretty much all the way home with only needing two quick bursts of power then shut it off again. didnt have a spare belt, so fitted the rear strut brace instead.
  6. Just got back from a trip to the Gold Coast, and this was the only e36 I seen, and only two e46’s, but a heap of new stuff. Can’t be much older bm’s around.
  7. Compact came back home after a 6-odd week vacation from having seatbelts sorted and going through cert, with only needing a second muffler added to pass.
  8. They are a bit of an addiction! Welcome.
  9. There could well be! Haven’t given it a good check over, but will let you know if the good one doesn’t need it
  10. Got the cooked box out and replacement in in about 4 hours today. Not bhed for an amateur lying on the floor. Off for a wof next week then do some cruising!

  12. First quarter of the job. Good box out
  13. I have gone though this same thing but with the m54 and m57 e53 x5’s gm 5 speed auto, but everything I found was pretty much hearsay, so no concrete evidence, apart from different gear ratios. Otherwise there was a full manual conversion on trademe with a six speed box
  14. Got my partly broken x5 it’s own partly broken x5.
  15. I had the same thing on my 94 316i compact! Worse thing was it was dealer serviced most of its life, and had 220k on the clock.
  16. That sucks man! So much time and effort for some careless person to screw it all up! Good luck for its next reiteration
  17. As long as it’s the 5 speed it’ll fit, assuming they got the 6 speed in the facelift
  18. Be good for a compete swap to a 6 speed atleast. Sold now tho
  19. Please? Even one from A e39 530d will work
  20. As per title, searching for a good GM5l40e for an ‘02 pfl diesel x5 so I can go backwards again. cheers
  21. Finally had a spare moment to fill the diff and refit the exhaust on the m3 last night. Also fitted my new intake. Now need to redo that hose to the booster round the back to make it look a bit nicer.
  22. Finally got the m3 into the garage to replace the leaking diff pinion seal. Got all the. It’s out the way, old seal out, and to find the one that was listed as the correct part isn’t. So onto realoem for the right part number and rang bmw this morning to order one through them, and should be here tomorrow to get that job finished up. while I was there, discovered the rest diff mount top brace has cracked, and maybe the weld around the base of the mount. So will get that fizzed up asap
  23. Yea most I’ve seen are the v8 or the m54 being wrecked. The m54 does share the same box, but I seeing that most people say the m57 box has stronger internals, so not sure if wise to use one, and with looking to remap it as well.
  24. Where has everyone mounted their seatbelt mounts on the tunnel of an e36? Best place I found was right where the centre hanger mounts and think I’ll have too much angle if I move it back by the drive shaft hoop
  25. Have finally had a moment to do some basic checks on the x5. Goes through all forward gears no probs, but can shift a bit rough. drained a bit of oil out the pan and is not looking good! Very dark and sparkly for something that has only done 10k since having the torque convertor replaced and fluids flushed, so my guess would be the clutch packs gone, as it does have some reverse. replace? Rebuild? Or manual/zf auto swap….
