  1. so the new gearbox is patchy, and you're sending the old one off for rebuild, then?
  2. you did that on Sunday afternoon after getting home from the Roadie? awesome! How's the new gearbox?
  3. I didn't get that many pics of my e60 specifically; here it is with @skidz 530i hosted on flickr. all rights reserved. Assimilated. whaddya think - should I go for the blacked-out grille, with chrome surround?
  4. here's the link to a very useful compendium of e60 info for considerations of maintenance or purchase, from Bimmerfest. So you just bought an e60
  5. Welcome, Ben. Wow, Giz was a beauty, those crumple zones certainly did the job. Gotta be happy the fireies didnt need to cut you out. Looking forward to seeing pics of your new 130i. Do take a look at the 'meetings' room/threads, you can click 'follow' so you never miss a local meet. The Auckland crowd get together pretty frequently.
  6. there used to be a blog (Caeser's Chariot?) from a US immigrant in Levin with a US market Nissan Maxima, he'd spent years whittling down it's 1/4 mile times. It read as a jobbing racer learning as he went, on a family beer budget. Held some really good info for someone wondering about making drag racing work. Haven't been able to find much using google, hopefully it's still there somewhere. May be of use.

    Dieselgate and VAG

crazy isn't it. It's not the dealers that are taking them back. It's VW. They've been complete a$$hats about the whole thing, and yet are working to save the value of cars that will be crushed. You'd think they'd be big enough to laugh it off for the handful of folks who wanted to take the pi$$. interesting to read some of the vitriol levelled at 'the strippers'. If it were me, I'd be damned pleased to be getting my money back from VW and moving on down the road to a reputable brand.

    Dieselgate and VAG

Hopefully VW NZ aren't adopting similar tactics to the Australian VAG arm (I did use capitals then, yes?)... have you seen the stories in the USA where they have a court-ordered (eg compulsory) buy-back scheme where the price is agreed, and the owners then strip their cars and drive them into the dealerships without doors, interiors, bumpers.... sitting on a milk crate, and walk out with their cheques and a bunch of near new VW parts to sell on ebay or craigslist. Well at least that was the intent... link to the Jalopnik story for the image above

    Dieselgate and VAG

wait, there's more. Allegedley VW in Australia have been taken to court by VW owners, for VW Australia's actions pressuring owners to sign away their rights. If nothing else, while sitting smugly on my Roundel I can watch this and laugh at my mates with VWs.
  10. that's Volkswagen Audi Group, not Vag, okay? Have you folk seen John Cadogan's rant on Dieselgate's happy birthday? It's brilliant.

    E87 130i Alpine White

doing a bit of light-painting eh, Kyu? Nice work. I like the setups with the Scooby, with Aucks in the background. The security fencing's not nearly as sexy. PS - that's one ice-cool 130i. Those Work wheels are superb.
  12. It took me 2.5 hours start to finish. Honestly, the clay-barring - although being another step - saves time and effort in the waxing. The brown stuff that comes off the paint and onto the clay, is surprising. #8 ) Edit: I clay bar about every 3rd or 4th wax.
  13. no time for pics today, will get some on the Welly Bimmersport Roadie on Sunday #8 ) If you've never clay-barred a car, you're in for a treat. Makes waxing so much easier, too!
  14. UPDATE: 152595kms. Replaced Air Filter with a new Hengst E728L (same as what was in there, only cleaner!). Also, thoroughly washed the wheels. Suds-bombed the car with AutoGlym shampoo. Rinsed. Washed with mitt with AutoGlym shampoo. dried with synthetic chamois. Clay barred. Waxed. Rain-X'd the windscreen My first suspension parts shipment arrived.
  15. e60: Thoroughly washed the wheels. Suds-bombed the car with AutoGlym shampoo. Rinsed. Washed with mitt. dried with synthetic chamois. Clay barred. Waxed. Also replaced the air filter.
  16. yeah there was a chap in the For Sale section looking to sell/wreck an e46 330i sedan, but it wasn't a Motorsport. Take a look...
  17. how's the ex-ministerial 730? got any pics?
  18. Minor item for me today. Decremented shelf stock of air filters by one. replaced e46 air filter, odometer 177220kms. Page European mentioned it to me "your AF's a bit dirty". As I had a stack of five at home... "and then there were four".
  19. So I've filled it with BP '98, and made a list of things to tidy up the beast for sale. I've owned this since November 2006. Been building a stack of paperwork covering all the work I've done on it... there's stuff I'd forgotten about! Watch this space, it'll be ready for sale before the end of next week. here's an old image... hosted on flickr. all rights reserved.
  20. I recall reading about new Valeo BMW Flywheel Conversion Kits that convert from dual mass to conventional flywheel with new clutch disk and pressure plate, release bearing, bolts. They're around, see what your local supplier has. HTH
  21. thanks for the insights Jon, it must be an exciting time preparing for a new model launch. I'll certainly tempt myself with a test drive. I'm still getting used to the quantum leap of the e60 over the e46, the G30 might blow my mind!
  22. regardless, your DISA needs servicing.
  23. here's a reference vidjo (not a good one) of a post i6 kit install
  24. mine certainly moved smoothly once I'd replaced the old gear with the i6 Automotive kit. I'm not certain that this was the cause of your noise, though. As Nathan suggests, can you start the car without the DISA and see it she still produces the helicopter sounds? EDIT - on second thoughts, re-watching your video it looks problematic. I'd be doing the kit.
